I thought the song went "does whatever a spider can", not "does most things a spider can". :o

Exactly. If he can defy all known physics then surely he could build webshooters?

I mean, think about it...The spider bite gave him all known abilities of a spider except from being able to shoot webs (y'know, a spider's most famous ability).

What?

Yes.

Or maybe he got the power to spin webs. Just like a spider. You know, from his ass and very slowly... so he thought mechanic web-shooters were more appropriate.

Also, the webshooters in TASM don't really make Peter seem any smarter seeing as he got them from Oscorp.

He's smart to adapt it to a wristband but doesn't have millions to develop the whole thing.

I didn't mention TASM... why are you bringing it up?

In responce to your previous post then surely webs would come out of his ass? I can't find the link but some sciencey guy actually said that biological webs wouldn't work because he would easily de-hydrate. Think about it, how much body fluids would he use in one trip around New York?

Not sure if anybody knows this or not, but the proposed Raimi mechanical webshooters ran off of Peter's organic webbing. The device concentrated it or something so it'd come out in strands. One of the first film's novelizations still had webshooters as part of the story. I've got the book lying around somewhere, if I find it, I'll post a scan of the page.

To this point I say, suspension of disbelief people. It's a movie about a guy who gets bitten by a spider and gets powers. I think I can accept the webshooters don't dehydrate him.

I don't want this image of Tobey Peter discovering he shoots some spider-web out of his ass...

Maybe it was Ditko who didn't want to draw that scene :D

Which is why Stan Lee went with the mechanical web-shooters.

I was under the impression he went with shooters because they can run out, which provides an indespensible source of easy tension. Somehow I doubt that a man who created a million characters based on nonsense science would be that phased about a spider's anatomy.

But his reasons for changing it was because it was "unrealistic"

I can see the argument presented by Raimi. I honestly never cared about the organic webshooters. My point is if I am to believe he got them when he was bitten, then I don't care if they don't dehydrate him.

Yeah, I might have been not serious.

Reminds me of this (NSFW)

Fair enought

I'm not too bothered by it really but I think Raimi missed an opportunity to show Peter's intellegence and it also would have presented opportunitys for him to run out of fluid.

Spider-Man 1 was pretty close to the Stan Lee era so I'm not complaining.

Does anybody have any cool fan art of the Raimi era? Or if not, any non-obvious promo shots, stills, concept art, etc? Or links to any of these things? Much appreciated!

If you search enough, SWB has a bunch of stuff relating back to the Raimi films.

In Michael Chabon's original draft Doc Ock was in late 20s and here are some concept arts:
