The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

I'm not complaining or anything (I really like the idea of Cooper as Lex), but where/how did this rumor get started and is there any legitimacy to it?

I'd agree. I imagine Luthor's voice as somewhat deep, but slow, measured, sinister at times. He's the epitome of confidence and suave charm. I never really get that sense from Cooper's voice.

I dunno, the guy has a smugness that makes him a little unlikeable at times, but I still would find it hard to buy him as a villain. I think the problem is he just doesn't exude any danger; he's more of the unlikable jock type (like his early roles) rather than someone who could actually do serious damage to our hero.

Billy Zane really does have an exceptional look for the role of Luthor, just a pity he can't act.

To me, he looks perfect for lex and i think, with right director, team behind him, he could be presented in a good light.

If, for Man of steel, he was just a shadow character, a fringe act if you like, then i would be happy with that. Like, we only saw him in glimpses, like on back ground TV interviews, talking on the phone with jus this mouth in shot as he looks out over metropolis as supes flies by, i think it be awesome. Lex, in my opinion should just be presented as one of many government officials to whom are opposed to supes.
The sequal could lead to a threat directed from luthor. I mean, come on, if lex is running from president, would Ron Paul really don a green kryptonite suit and battle it out with the second comign of christ, so to speak. Luthor should be the mastermind, but never get his hands dirty. That's the angle i'd go for. There are so many more villians to choose from.

I like Cooper as a pick for Lex Luthor.

The modern Lex is charming and can fool people into liking him.. like Lucifer, who Cooper is already playing. Plus Cooper has bright eyes that would look good green.

Bradley Cooper is Lex? We'll just have to wait for the official word on that. But in the mean time, here is Bradley bald :P

I read that he dropped out of Paradise Lost, which is a shame. I think that is partly what sparked the rumor.

He left The Crow. Paradise Lost is just delayed but he's still attached.

Well that's good news (I guess since I'd hate to see it postponed).

Nice pics

I've just gotten flashbacks of the Smallville finale.

.....and you quoted me to say this...........wwwwhhhhyyyy???..............

Aside from actors playing two DC characters (serious or not)....just to see if you'd quote back.

Cooper would bring enough charisma to the role to satisfy me. Grant Morrison says that you need to be able to root a little for Lex against Superman, so having someone who has any charm like Cooper would help accomplish that.

And I do think that Limitless showcases some of the reasons Cooper could pull it off. The character is energetic, charismatic, and very intelligent, but has this arrogance that gets him into a lot of trouble. Just make all of that darker and give Cooper some genuinely threatening and deadly serious parts and I think you have a good Lex Luthor.

Luthor should be enjoyable to watch and pretty affable...right up until we get to see the real wolf in sheeps clothing. Two of my favorite villains, Ratigan from Great Mouse Detective and Joker from Dark Knight, have that seen; Joker when the ferries don't blow up and he stops smiling and just tries to kill everybody, and Ratigan when he decides it's time to drop the posturing and just go for Basil of Bakerstreet's throat with his bare hands.

And if Lex is in this movie and they're going to try a trilogy, I think he might actually work better as the big bad of the third movie. Let him simmer in the background, slowly get more involved, and then become the main bad guy after Zod and Brainiac, so Superman goes from super-powered tyrant to eldritch super computer to... a mere mortal man.

oh....wait, Mark Strong played 2 DC characters?? Who else did he play?
No...you brought up (serious or not) the possibility of Cooper 'playing Flash', and I as well as at least another poster commented/implied that it's okay to play more than one comic character, in case that was suggested as an issue. So since Mark Strong was also suggested as Luthor, aleady playing Sinestro wouldn't put him out of the running.

We can use bigger and slower font, if you'd like. :cwink:

I still love patrick wilson for the role, I cant quite see bradley cooper in it, but I guesswe'll see what happens.

Yea i just don't see Bradley Cooper as a lex type, but if it's true, I'll reserve judgment.....I think Heath ledger is a great example of unexpected greatness

I can't see cooper as Lex, but stranger things have happened.
