The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

If Luthor appears in the movie, or they set him up for an appearance in the next movie (if there is one) I think it should be a big name actor. The biggest name out of the actors on the movie. I still like the idea of Sean Penn as Lex Luthor. It would be really interesting to see him play a guy that is definitely a bad guy. He hasn't played a bad guy in a long time! Sean Penn, John Brolin, I'd love Daniel Day-Lewis but I doubt he would do it, but then again I doubted Russell Crowe would touch a comic book movie, or Ralph Fiennes, Greg Kinnear, and Gabriel Byrne, even though older than a lot of fans would like to see, I think he would be a very good Lex Luthor.

I still want Lex to appear about 10 - 15 years older than Clark, but I don't want him to be the same age or older than Pa Kent and Jor-el, which is what we're talking about with some of those options (sean Penn 51, Daniel day Lewis 54, Gabriel Byrne 61 - Kevin Costner 56, Russel Crowe 47)

I'd prefer something in these age ranges/looks:

Clive Owen 46, Daniel Craig 43, Jason Isaacs 48 (but looks good for his age), Dominic West 41

I did think of Daniel Craig for Luthor (long before anyone brought him up) and I would definitely like him as Luthor, but I'd prefer if they went with the best actor. Sean Penn I think can always be made to look younger and is in great shape, but if they did go with a younger actor, I'd love it if it were something really out of the box, like Jeremy Renner. I could believe a 40 year old could be a millionaire. If the creators of Facebook are making millions, I don't see why a 40 year old couldn't be a millionaire.

Personally those are the best actors, for what i'm looking for in Lex Luthor this time around.

Besides, Sean Penn just has this really distinctive look, and it doesn't remotely resemble Lex Luthor to me:

Jeremy Renner is very very unlikely with him playing Hawkeye for however many Avengers movies there are going to be (which is not the same as Evans as Human Torch and Cap, because Fantastic Four was dead a buried by the time Cap came out, not still running).

Besides, he looks really young for 40 IMO.

After reading Morrison's Action Comics Number One, I'm even more convinced Jeffrey Wright would be a brilliant left field choice for Lex.

I could never picture Lex Luthor being anything other than white, kind of like I can't picture Superman being played by Will Smith. It isn't a racial thing, it is just because the characters don't look like what they are supposed to. Perry White shouldn't have been played by Fishburne in my opinion, I thought it should have been Bruce McGill or Harvey Keitel. If they decided to go though and have a Luthor that is not white, I'd definitely pick Denzel then. He has a very good command presence, the kind of presence that if he were talking to you, you'd feel intimidated by even though he is very smooth. In fact, I think Lex Luthor should be played exactly how Denzel played Frank Lucas in "American Gangster". Whether it is Denzel, or someone else, I'd like to feel from Luthor that same intimidating smooth cool personality.

I agree to an extent, but I don't think we need a big name for lex. I would love it, but IMO it isn't necessary. You could get an up and commer he could make lex his own, that's why like MC for this role

Yeah, Lex should be white. Dunno why, but somehow black actors arent as good as being creepy as white actors. Maybe it's a historical thing.

And yeah, Lex could be played by an up and commer, I suppose, but I'd love to go, "Hell yeah, is that who they got?!", when he pops up on the screen the first time.

Why? He has the acting chops and the look.
I love Bruce Willis. I really do. He's a man's man and I love all his movies - even the ***** ones. But I don't want him anywhere near Lex Luthor. When he plays bad, he just looks... disinterested.

Pass.

being white and bald is not all luthor looks like it also is the way he carries himself

guys like statham, willis and even meloni have too much of a macho look for lex

lex needs to be suave ,debonair, and charming but intimidating and ruthless

The jack-pot actor would be someone we know is good, who can play the character with subtlety but still retain energy, and who would be dedicated enough to at least "try out" the bald look.

I'd absolutely love this for a left-field choice.

Sean Penn always looks like he's smelling s*** or something.

Daniel Craig is my choice, he'd be perfect for it.

I will not argue that you white guys have the market cornered on creepy.

But opposite, no white actor can top any black actor at being ridiculously cool with the way they carry themselves and their retorics.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Lex will probably be a government scientist.

James Purefoy?

See! That's what we need. We need an actor with good-guy charisma but a hint of darkness and a piercing stare. We can't have Lex be played comedically again, and who here wouldn't want to see a "hero" actor cast as the bald bad guy?

i think we need a guy who looks like a good guy purefoy constantly looks like a bad ass lol

I like the idea of Craig for Lex to tell the truth. They need a big name to generate interest for the sequel. Craig just had a mean look to him in Cowboys and Aliens.
