The point is that an actor has been nominated for a superhero movie. It doesn't matter why it happened. It happened. He probably would've got it, anyway.

Yes, he meant Americans, the same people who actually liked the insulting lyrics the British made for Yankee Doodle Dandy and engaged in an impromptu rap battle with the British throughout the war using the song, and who figured we should set a patriotic poem to an English drinking song for a national anthem.

Not that we take in pride in that or anything.

And y'know, considering the number of English, Austrailian, Welsh, and other assorted former members of the British Empire who've taken over both the hero and villain roles in comicbook movies, we'll be lucky to actually have an American play Lex Luthor at all again. Though if one of you guys follows in the steps of Ledger, Hiddleston, Hardy, or Murphy, I think we'll be okay with ignoring national rivalries and just throwing money at the screen.
