I can't think of a single role where he has used an accent besides his own.

He did one in Sin City. It was...weird. Inside Man, too. I'd be more worried about his charisma than his accent, though. I don't get much joy or charm out of Clive Owen's performances, and Lex needs to be a guy who gets a certain amount of enjoyment from what he does, imo. You should be able to read it right there on his face, a level of subtlety not withstanding.

The more I think about it the more I think that it would be naive to assume that since nothing has been announced and everything points to Zod, that Lex simply won't have a presence in MOS.

You have to remember, even if we hadn't seen LexCorp in the trailer, Lex Luthor is a prominent figure and active citizen of Metropolis. People know who he is. To ignore this fact about him would be irresponsible on Synder's part IMO.

Never thought about Damien Lewis. Loved him in both BOB and Life. His Life character alone would make an awesome Lex.

Phoenix has been mentioned. He would be an interesting choice that's for sure. The more and more I think about it though Damien Lewis really does sound awesome. He's so great on Homeland and as DK stated Emmy and Golden Globe and we know he is more than capable of embodying a real intensity that would be great to see him being to Lex.

Well, he was your excellent suggestion. I had never thought of him in the role for some reason, but when I read your list, it just clicked in my head - like it did with Amy when she was announced as Lois. I had never thought of her as Lois before, but it worked wonderfully in my head when I actually turned my mind to the idea. Furthermore, Lewis did a great villain turn in Dreamcatcher. I believe the only thing reviews consistently praised about that movie was his acting. I feel like he is a similar type of casting choice to Shannon. Both are strong, workmanlike actors who are not well known to the public. (Granted, Shannon's resume is more impressive)

I totally forgot about Sin City. Both Sin City and Inside Man were far from convincing. Came off as Mid-Atlantic at best.

Agreed. I can't think of a single thing I've seen him in where regardless of script, story, etc (i.e. a bad movie/show), he didn't bring his A game.

PS, he's basically the only reason I have any interest whatsoever in the new Romeo & Juliet.

Damien is a bit hot too at the moment with Homeland just how I'm sure Shannon's intensity as Van Alden on Boardwalk Empire played a part in his casting as well. He was great in Dreamcatcher as well, that's honestly what made me think of him. I was looking at my DVD shelf just trying to think of some people and glimpsed it, lol.

I want Lex to be a snake oil salesman of sorts. He should con most people into thinking he's a good man. He needs to be charming in public but in private we get to see what a monster he is .

Snyder has worked with Jon Hamm and his character on Mad Men fits that description a bit,

Mcconaughey for lex he is extremely charming and very good looking man who is very smooth talking and often plays good guy roles and woman love him

but as seen with killer joe he can be out right nasty

Lewis' Brody on Homeland fits that perfectly as well. He needs to have this air of sophistication and self importance to him as well as the ability to easily manipulate people and make them think he's a really great guy. Damn, I'm rather proud of myself for this idea. Lewis fits Lex freaking perfectly. He even sort of has a longer face which I almost always associate with Lex. I can't be the only one who thinks like that with Lex though. Almost all modern animated and comic versioins of him and even Michael Rosenbaum have the longer facial structures and Lewis has that as well.

Don't like him for the same reason I don't like Guy Pearce. He's smarmy.

Mcconaughey is actually a damn fine choice as well but something would definitely have to be done about that voice of his. He'd have to change that up quite a bit IMO to capture Lex correctly but as far as looks and acting ability two thumbs up from me. Vastly underrated

Nah I was just curious. Cause he's obviously come across as incredibly charming to a lot of people in the past (myself included), and been rumoured for James Bond on and off in his career.

I love his energy in a lot of roles. I think he could pull off the perfect type of charming for Lex Luthor - It's that blend of charming, but with something kind of off in his eyes... kind of hard and cold.

I'm always on the fence about Viggo in anything. Sometimes I find him incredibly bland and other times he's great.

Viggo is an excellent actor but I think he is too old at this point and, frankly, he is too unconventional looking if people want the outwardly charming, corporate magnate Lex. Also, although Damian is my favourite, McConaughey really is an excellent choice so long as he can change his accent. Also, he is a dead ringer for Lex in All-Star Superman.

Can I ask what you've actually seen him in?

Children of Men, Closer, The Bourne Identity, Inside Man, Sin City, Shoot 'Em Up, King Arthur, Gosford Park.

I like Clive as an actor, but there are still certain types of roles that I think he's wrong for - Bond and Lex being two of 'em.

I mean, there would be gripers for Tom, or Erica, or Annette, etc, anyone involved in Smallville really, reprising their role for a major studio flick like this.

But Rosenbaum? Pffft, who would argue with that?

I really like Gosling as an actor, but based on a quick Google image search, his small features make him look like a cancer kid with a bald head. Doesn't really project Lex's strength of character looking like that.
