I'd be down with ham, but do you think it's still possbible after that lex parody he did a while back? Lol

I think we have to look at certain attributes that we'd want to see in a Lex Luthor character

1) Older than Superman (40-45)
2) Has presence, physicality (as in height, stature)
3) Seen as handsome, charismatic yet domineering

I think Lex will be a very prominent business figure who
A) Billionaire Industrialist
B) Perhaps also military contractor?
C) Has political aspirations
C) Lexcorp vs. Wayne Enterprises - competitors

My pick: Josh Brolin

That might make things a little awkward on set. [BLACKOUT]Brolin and [Diane] Lane filed for divorce in February 2013.[/BLACKOUT]

Should he have to be? I actually like the idea of lex sort of being an evil reflection of superman in human form. Besides this supes isn't that young he's starting out at 33.

So it wouldn't be unbelievable for lex to be in his position of power in his mid 30's let's say? He is a genius after all.

I used to think Bana would've been a good choice for Superman. Seeing him as Lex could be cool.

Bana's got on of the most convincing "charming-to-psycho" switches in the business. He was great in Deadfall too. He's just got that "look" in his eyes. It's always right beneath the surface.

You've got that right. And on top of that, he's a handsome guy with a very trusting face. To me, that's exactly what you need from Luthor.

Bana = 8/10

The mad scientist version

He's also 6' 2", so he has the physicality to stand eye-to-eye with Supes. He also has a great gravelly voice when he needs to use it.

Wait... Bana could've played Bruce Wayne/Batman as well (a few years back). LOL!

But yes, I think he'd be a great way to go. I don't want an OLD Lex, but the movie may need a guy who's 10-15 years older than Cavill. Bana fits perfectly.

Brolin would also kill it for sure, but as someone pointed out, Brolin and Lane won't be in a movie together in the foreseeable future.

Not sure I like the Bana suggestion. He's a great actor, but his Nero character came off like a petulant child and I worry Lex would feel the same way. Maybe it was the writing, though. I just don't think he'd be the right fit.

As for McConaughey, I'd be down with it but ONLY if he can drop the accent. Lex with a twang wouldn't feel right at all. He's not JR Ewing.

I think we have a winner. Good thinking, Project. Has Matt ever portrayed a villainous character before though?

I haven't seen Killer Joe yet, but I know he plays a sleazy contract killer in that. You should also check out Frailty; he's pretty creepy in that movie too.

Right, I just think that would be an interesting angle. We know in real life that politicians and business men don't have to be super handsome to fool people but movies aren't real life.

They don't have to be handsome, but it helps. I think that people respond more to those types of people when they are also good-looking. The JFK-Nixon TV debate - need I say more?

I'm actually really intrigued by the Bradley Cooper suggestion. I think he could really redefine the role in the same way Ledger did with the Joker. He has the charisma, but there is also something about him that makes me think he could play a sociopath.

He is slowly becoming one of my favorite actors and that's saying something because I pretty much hated him just a few years ago. He proved me wrong. I still think that he isn't right for everything but I feel like he could do something special with Luthor as well.

EDIT: Do you mean Kevin Smith the poster? Or the real one.

Kevin Smith's podcast reviewing Man of Steel is up on Youtube. I was digging into it yesterday and he said through he can't stomach Bruce Willis, he would be his perfect casting for Lex Luthor. Swag, charming and a lead-role presence needed for a character like Lex.
