I don't know if this one has been mentioned yet, but I loved the idea. A friend of mine recently said if Zack Snyder decided to cast someone he's worked with before, Matthew Goode would be a potential choice. What do you guys think?
 
^ Oh yes to Matthew Goode. He has the (good) look and Luther isn't that far off from Ozymandias. His performance in Stoker as an urbane sociopath was pretty mesmerizing too.

I was baffled when he said it, just for the fact that it had never crossed my mind before. As you said, it's not far removed from Ozymandias making him a good fit for Lex as well. I've not seen Stoker, but I definitely want to check it out now.
 
I think that the classic Lex, sans hair won't be seen at all in a sequel. His character will be there, and he will have a reason for his clash with Supes. But he won't lose his hair until either the end or an end credits sequence. His hair won't be the reason to thwart Superman. But it will be one more thing to throw on that particular fire.

You do know that both Crowe and Costner were cast because their careers are kinda in the dumps right now, right?

Daniel Day Lewis and Denzel Washington are not realistic possibilities. You are smoking the same stuff as the Billy Zane guys. Also, when are we gunna get an actual source for shauner's big claim? Everything I have read regarding Lex/sequels has been very coy. I think this is another case of crazed fans reading too much into a quote and misinterpreting it or misremembering something they read. Otherwise, we would have gotten a link already.

I'm still predicting someone in a similar position to Michael Shannon will be cast as Lex - a younger, talented actor with critical acclaim who isn't a household name. Someone who adds gravitas to the role but is not above comic book movies (or to be more precise, thinks that they are above them).
 
Crowe's career was not in the dumps. Yeah he wasn't leading man material, but he wasn't box office poison or anything.

That's why I said "kinda". Not too long ago, he used to be major leading man material. In the trajectory of his career, Crowe was definitely in a valley when he made Man of Steel. Big difference from Washington and Day-Lewis who were an Oscar nominee and winner respective last year.

You mean in a movie that went into production after Man of Steel finished filming in March 2012? I'm talking about the years prior to Man of Steel's production when he had far more flops than hits.

The director hinted that we can expect another big name actor in the Superman sequel that he has already signed on for, alongside writer David Goyer and producer Christopher Nolan.
Though Lex Luthor doesn't make an appearance in Man of Steel, his corporation Lexcorp is referenced and Snyder spoke to his casting notes for any Luthor.
"Suffice it to say if we were able to make another movie and - another big if - if Lex is in that film, I think really you'd want to use the pedigree that we've established as far as how the movie would be cast.
''I think you need an actor that would be able to personify this iconographic role in the same way that Russell and Kevin and Amy have done in the movie we've just made. That's the criterion. That's the pedigree you would look for."

So essentially, the "big name" claim is all the author's interpretation? Don't get me wrong, Adams, Crowe, and Costner are great actors with strong pedigrees, but Snyder's comment is open to interpretation. Shannon was not a big name (like Crowe or Costner) but is a great actor. I'm not even sure Adams is a household name to be honest. "Pedigree" could be referring to acting talent and critical acclaim as opposed to name draw or stardom.
