I say to Snyder: cast Michelle Monaghan... because I'm worried we're gonna get someone a lot worse.

Michelle Monaghan is hot and she would have been a great Lois Lane alongside some of the older actors.

She's just incredibly wrong for Henry Cavill, and there's no way she could pass for early 20s (Clark is early 20s in this).

There were many popular Lois choices over the years (Lily, Monaghan, McAdams etc) here that people need to let go of after Henry Cavill was cast. We're playing in a new age range here and Warners have a clear history of casting younger for these roles.

She would be perfect. I'm not too familiar with her work but I just watched some clips of her. Everything about her screams Lois Lane. And I agree, I think the chemistry between her and Henry would be absolutely wonderful.
Yeah, I can picture her working really well with Cavill. Like, scary well. Because she's REAL. Cavill is otherworldly. He's gorgeous and tall and has black hair and blue eyes.

Meanwhile, Michelle seems like a real person -- she has that likable, everywoman quality -- she's pretty, but not otherworldly, but also seems tough and smart just like Lois Lane.

Olivia Wilde is otherworldly just like Cavill. You can't put an otherworldly Superman next to an otherworldly gorgeous Lois Lane. That's not a good pair. You need someone like Michelle Monaghan who seems like a real person who would fall in love with a god. That creates chemistry and makes the audience care and makes a good movie.

Ug, I don't want some 19-year-old girl as Lois. Leighton Meester as Lois, that would just be depressing.

Henry Cavill is in his late 20's, Michelle Monaghan is in her mid-30's and has a baby face and could easily pass as 30. What's wrong with that?

I'm not set on Monaghan, I don't know who we're gonna get, I'm just worried Snyder's really gonna screw this part up. He's nailed it so far, but if he casts the wrong actress for Lois, the movie could crumble. The "wrong actress" being 99% of women mentioned in this thread.

I don't think that's how chemistry is created. IMO, either two people have it or they don't. So whichever actress has that spark with Henry is who I want for the job. And you can't know that until they test no matter how well two people look paired together.

early 20's? you mean late 20's right?

No sir.

The casting call mentioned the script involves an "Early 20s" Clark Kent returning to Smallville after his journeys overseas to discover his Kryptonian heritage and take up the mantle of Superman.

Cavill can easily pass for that. He looks young.

Lois Lane needs to be able to pass for that age too IMO.

I think at the very least he'll cast someone attractive who tops Diane Lane in the looks dept.

Acting-wise? Err. We shall see. It could be another 'Malin Akerman' for all we know.

However, the good news is Lois' role in this film is supposed to be minor. She isn't even the main female lead according to the press sources thus far.

So it's not like Lois would hugely negatively impact the film in the worst case scenario if she's getting 'Rachel Dawes'-level screentime.

I'm sorry, I love Cavill, but he doesn't look like he can pass for early 20s.

Malin Akerman Would Love to go from Linda Lovelace to Lois Lane:

For Malin Akerman, playing a superhero’s household-name girlfriend might just be the perfect palette cleanser after playing the first household-name porn star.
Akerman, who’s prior superhero experience consists of playing Silk Spectre in director Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen,” has been floated as a leading contender to play the Kal-El’s main squeeze Lois Lane in Snyder’s forthcoming “Superman: Man of Steel."
Although she hasn't seen a formal offer, she's definitely up for it.
“I'd love to,” Akerman tells PopcornBiz. “I'd love to be a part of it. I'd work for Zack any day. Dude, bring it on! I'm waiting for the contract and the offer.”
Playing a plucky reporter in love with a super-powered Boy Scout would be a refreshing change for Akerman after playing infamous 70s porn star Linda Lovelace in “Inferno,” which is about to go before the cameras.
“I'm very excited to start filming that,” says Akerman, who currently appears in this week's “Happythankyoumoreplease” and assumed the role of Lovelace after Lindsay Lohan was reportedly axed from the production. “As of right now we're supposed to be starting in April. The movie is sort of behind-the-scenes: her life with her husband and what that relationship, was like which was pretty torturous. He physically beat her quite a bit and had a gun to her head many times and forced her into prostitution, so it's a very emotional journey.”
Lovelace (born Linda Boreman), of course, was the star of 1972’s “Deep Throat,” the first-ever mainstream porn phenomenon, who struggled with both her abusive manager/husband Chuck Traynor and drug addiction before becoming an anti-porn activist prior to her death in 2002.
“The film is very much a biography, I guess you could say, of her life – or an interpretation of it, I think maybe four years of her life that we look at,” says Akerman. “So it's a really intense, dark movie, for me anyway, and a great, exciting, nerve-wracking challenge.”
Thus far Akerman has read Lovelace’s autobiography and watched the documentary film “Inside Deep Throat” to prep for the role. “Her book is really hard to read, but it has a lot of great information,” she says. “I've just been trying to get into the psyche of what it would be like to be a battered woman, people who are and why they don't get out and what happens. It's a really twisted mind frame to try and put yourself into. Obviously it's not the remake of 'Deep Throat' or anything. It's more just about what that life is like.”

Lois Lane needs to be able to pass for that age too IMO.

It all depends on how much time passes though. In Batman Begins, we see Bruce as a college student, and then as a young man entering his 30s. Bale portrays Bruce perfectly in both phases, and little more than a different hairstyle is needed to convey the change in age.

Cavill could pass for 23 or so, but he could also pass for late 20s/early 30s. So if he ends up in Metropolis when he's about 28 or so, then a Lois in her 30s would work fine.

I think she's great (and hot as hell) but I just don't think she's right for Lois. Although she'd be better than Bosworth thats for sure so its not a decision I'd hate just a decision I wouldn't be happy nor sad for.

But guess her wanting it doesn't mean she'll get it, didn't Patrick Wilson express interest in the Superman role?

I'm sorry, I love Cavill, but he doesn't look like he can pass for early 20s.

He can easily, with makeup and whatnot, he has a youthful look without the facial hair.

They put a lot of makeup on Reeve and Routh.

True, there could be a time jump.

However, even in BB the studio still pushed for a 25 year old Katie Holmes opposite Bale who's 4 years older.

I'd be shocked if they go with an older Lois Lane and a younger Superman.

It's Carnival in Brazil! Happy carnival everybody! Hope we have good news soon...

Yeah, no thanks for Malin Ackerman. I liked her enough in Watchmen, but that's enough. Sometimes she looks... odd.

Most males around here drooled over that first pic of her in the Silk Spectre outfit. :whatever: She was flat-out awkward looking.

First I don't recall anywhere that they were going for an early 20's looking Superman. The casting call was for a late 20ish person if I'm not mistaken. Secondly Ackerman isn't a bad choice but I would say she is on the old side and is a weaker actress than McAdams. So if they are gonna go for an older actress to play Lois, might as well take McAdams. I don't think Ackerman is that bad of a choice though.

To those who want Olivia Wilde, you're out of your minds. Lois is not an exotic, seductive supermodel. And Wilde doesn't even have the personality traits of Lois. Anyone who wants Wilde for Lois doesn't understand or care about the character, period.

I agree with Michelle, I think she is a great choice regardless of her age, but your being a bit ignorant. Olivia is amazing looking, but she isn't as hot as everyone is saying she is.

There are many different points in Superman's comics where Lois has a completely different looks.

^That looks like Olivia Wilde to me. Now, it's fine if you think Olivia Wilde is too sexy and exotic to be Lois, but to say anyone who likes her for the part doesn't understand/care for the character is just flat out dumb.

Michelle Monaghan would be a great Lois in my opinion, she is perfect for those who say Lois shouldn't be too hot and shouldn't being average looking. However, she is pushing the age limit, big time in my opinion. And I just don't think she would look right with Henry. But I would be mad if she got the part.

Olivia Wilde is still my choice for Lois. She is hot, she has spunk, and she's a good actress. Everyone is saying she is too hot, model hot. Ehh, I gotta disagree. She is hot yes, but she is not as hot as everyone's making her out to be. And Superman isn't going to fall for an average Jane. And she is a pretty good actress. Plus her and Henry would look good together in my opinion.

Rachel McAdams is my second choice. She is a great actress and can really play any role handed to her. She is hot but not model hot, so perfect balance. She looks like Lois to me. But the only downfall is she is pushing the age limit. She is not old by any means but if Lois is suppose to early 20 something in the first movie, that could be a problem.

Jessica Biel is a eh-whatever choice. She is just blah. Her acting, her looks, everything about her, blah. If she got it, I would be pretty pissed but it wouldn't be the worst choose.

Emily Blunt is a great actress and could pull off the part for Lois. Though I don't think she is attractive enough. She is pretty basic looking, IMO. She would be like Margot Kidder. But if she got the part I wouldn't be mad by any means.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a TERRIBLE choice in my opinion. I don't know why, but her look bothers me. She has more of the porn star look rather then the Lois look IMO. Plus her acting is crap. PLEASE Ryder, anyone but her.

Just my opinions on some of the suggestions on the forum.

The Olivia is too hot thing is ridiculous. Isn't Cavill too handsome for Superman then? :whatever:

Superman is supposed to be very handsome, perfect. And the most interest thing would be he falling in love to an average looking woman, it would make the female audience feels that any woman could have a superman. :atp:

I normally thinking these "casting" threads are a bit redundant as they have no bearing on who will ultimately be cast and they often just lead to arguments, but I've found myself giving quite a bit of thought to who can be Lois Lane...

I honestly can't see Olivia Wilde as Lois and I DO really, really like Olivia... there's just something so hard and cold about her, it worked perfectly for her in Tron Legacy but for Lois it just doesn't fit (IMO of course!) I do think she'd make a good villain though!

Anyway, I'm gonna throw my one and only choice out there and before anyone rags on her age...

1. She's not gonna wear a badge with her age on it!
2. She LOOKS young for her age!
3. If Famke Janssen can play Jean Grey in her 40's to James Marsden's 28 year old Scott Summers then dammit we can have a Lois in her 30's!

Michelle Monaghan

My top choice as well. And I think she'd have no problem passing for 27-30, which is the age range I'm hoping Lois is in regardless of where in his 20's Clark is. Also, I think she and Henry would go great together.

But I disagree about Olivia. I think she'd also be good.
