The Official Lois Lane Casting & Discussion Thread - Part 5

A woman with Olivia's style of looks (that you label "cold") cannot be found working in an office anywhere? That's what you're saying. And that's silly.

Not exactly what I was saying, no. I was trying to say Olivia's beauty is an unusual one. Her look isn't commonplace. Gemma is far more "girl next door". Sometimes I have something in my head and when I type it out, it comes out a bit wrong lol! I know what I meant though :yay:

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with you about Wilde. She's does look cold, almost mean. It wasn't until I watched an interview with her recently, where I got to see her personality, that I even began to warm up to her. She was very well spoken and seemed nice, but she still isn't my ideal Lois Lane.

Today is Wilde's birthday, maybe they make her a present by announcing her as Lois Lane today :woot:

Kate Mara as Lana hmm? Yeah I can definitely support that. Make it happen!!

As I look at Majik's picks, I'm noticing a few faces that never get discussed (because they're so under-the-radar they won't even be considered), so in an attempt to divert from the usual (and boring at this point) Wilde talk, what are everyone's wildcard choices? You know, the ones that you know have pretty much no shot at even being considered?

My wildcards:

1. Caroline Dhavernas
2. Alexa Davalos
3. Missy Peregrym

1. Alyssa Milano

2. Mia Kershner

3. Jessica Stroup (yeah, I accept that she has no chance :()

I also absolutely love the idea of Evan Rachel Wood, and I think she does have a chance, having just been in a film with Cavill. She's my absolute girl crush, and IMO a very good actress with so much personality.

That's why I suggested she'd make a really good villain. She just has the perfect look for it. And I honestly don't mean that offensively.

I'm pretty sure Wilde can play a cold or kind person convincingly. In real life she comes across as really nice and extremely intelligent in interviews. Even when she got Punk'd, she handled a stressful situation nicely.

That was brilliant :) I am actually really warming up to Wilde as a person. She seems really lovely.

I still don't want her as Lois though.

Cavill and Evan Rachel Wood had a great chemistry onscreen, and with dark hair she looks more mature, but I don't believe she will make a big movie ever.

Evan Rachel Wood is stunning I love her on True Blood, Would be a good choice for Lois

I guess I see Rachel more as Ursa then Lois , especially after her role in True Blood. She knows how to play a good villan. I like the Kate Mara suggestion for Lois .

I'll give you Rosenbaum's Lex, if we consider him alone you have a strong case.

However, I find both version of Lois Lane equally as bad. They've really ruined her character with how they've written it, it's especially noticeable this season. If we consider the show's entire run, Lana and Chloe have had a much heavier presence on the series and I find them 100x more annoying and cringeworthy than anything Bosworth did.

I don't have a major issue with Brandon playing Reeve's character. It was a sequel. I can't say I've liked anything 'new' that they did with SV's Clark. They've written him as a slow learner and a wimp who gets shown up by even Supergirl (10x3).

Bottom line is I would take a Donnerverse film with one liberty (Jason) which didn't work out over going back and heavily changing the origins in bizarre and embarrassing ways for a CW audience. That's just my preference.

The more I see Evan Rachael Wood, the more I want her to go away.

I liked Evan Rachel Wood on True Blood but she'd be a strange choice for Ursa lookswise. Evan is rather short and girly looking.

She would have been great as a classic pre-crisis version of Lois Lane. I'm not sure she's quite right for the modern version though.

Yeah, I know that some people here consider suggestions like that to be closed-minded, but it's not just the fact that Mara is a redhead. She also comes off very sweet and wholesome to me, which is perfect for Lana. I'm not saying she couldn't play Lois, but she sort of personifies Lana to me.

Now, it might be true that a big part of that is the look, but what of it? I'm sure Henry Cavill could play a great Batman, but is he not more perfect for Superman?

I think you hit the nail on the head! Olivia's beauty is far too cold and distant for Lois; Gemma Arterton is the clear best choice!:awesome:

Let's face facts here. There was only one great choice for Lois and, well..... now she's Maria Hill. :csad:

Her personality is 1 of the main reasons I think Olivia would be an awesome Lois. She's intelligent, confident, funny, charming, independent. Those are attributes that Lois should have. Being extremely gorgeous is just a bonus. :woot:

Rachel McAdams, Mila Kunis, Emily Blunt and Gemma Arterton have all those traits as well. All of them are really talented actresses too. There are a lot of good options.

I like Evan Rachel Wood, too. Strangely, Snyder wanted her for Sucker Punch and Nolan wanted her for Inception. :yay:

I like Evan Rachel Wood too. I'm not sure about her playing Lois, but I wouldn't be opposed to it. A lot of people seem to really hate her though. I have no idea why. My ex-girlfriend DESPISED her for reasons I've never understood.

I think she could play either role actually. I think she could work as Ursa given that the public doesn't have a set view in their mind of what Ursa should like . Combine that with the fact that Ursa is gonna have powers anyway the height issue really would make that much of a difference. It's the idea of Wood playing Lois that I personally have a harder time seeing visually but if she's cast she'll have my support.

I'm not a fan of ERW either, I find her to be kinda annoying. She's a very overrated actress IMHO and completely wrong for Lois. She's too much like a Kristen Stewart goth/troubled type of actress and I just don't see Lois that way. If we were going the slightly edgey, quirky actress route, I'd go with Amanda Seyfried.

Eh... I like Seyfried but I can't see her as Lois. She's a bit too cute, IMO. And by that I mean, she seems to innocent and sweet. More Lana material that Lois in my book (same way I feel about Kate Mara). I guess I've just never seen Seyfried play a dark, edgy character, other than in that stupid Chloe movie (which was terrible).

ERW though... I thought she stood out in The Wrestler; saw some range there... a hard edge in contrast to the more innocent characters she played in Whatever Works and Across the Universe.

She's definitely within the realms of possibility :)

Evan Rachel Wood is the only woman i've ever crushed on. I find her absolutely... well 'enchanting' is the only word I can think of! I could just stare at her all day.

Can't explain it, it's actually quite bizzare.

The only reason I don't suggest her a lot for the role is that I don't know if it's the kind of thing SHE would want to do.
