EA The Official Mass Effect Thread - Part 2

Not now, no. I’m sure it’s all hands on deck with their new stuff. A giant like ME can’t sleep forever though and I think they are just waiting for enough years to pass before giving it a huge relaunch. Maybe next gen though.
yeah, with next gen being a year or two away I could see them having a Me1 remake as a launch title. most people seem to think Ps5/Xbox Two is 2020

I guess 2020 would be earliest for PS5. I wouldn't expect X2 till 2021 unless of course they felt they had to match PS5's release date. Would definitely hope for a Mass Effect game within the first few years of next gen.

mS can’t allow Sony to build up a user base with a next gen console while their next Xbox is still in development. It’s gotta be the same year, same quarter the way I see it. 2020 for Ps5 and Xbox Two

Probably right. If it is then it will have been a very disappointing gen for me. So few memorable new games compared to other gens.

what you mean man? some of the greatest games of all time have been released this gen. i haven't even played them all.

bloodborne, witcher 3, zelda (if we're gonna count the switch as the same gen as Ps4/Xbone), and there's still 3 more years - 2018 has had some heavy hitters already, then there's 2019, and almost the entirety of 2020 (assuming next gen starts in Q4)

I thought you were going to give me a long list. I think you’ve proven the point with your post with the list being so short, and they aren’t even new games introduced this gen. :funny: Other gens have introduced many more games of this level.

you mean new IPs? bloodborne's a new IP, as is horizon zero dawn, splatoon, destiny, division (hate em or love em, tens of millions of people play em)

but yeah perhaps the overall number of AAA games that release per year is lower every gen, and that could just be because as games become more complex, the more time that is required to develop

Yeah, new IPs. If that's the reason then with less releases they better make sure they get things right from the off unlike Destiny and the Division which fumbled the ball early on. Anyway hope next gen can improve and as you said, it's probably not all that far away any more.

Former BioWare boss expounds on EA’s role in substudios and business models

Everybody loves to dump on EA for wrecking companies like BioWare and escalating microtransactions and lockboxes to ludicrous heights, but is it warranted?
Kotaku recently spoke to former BioWare studio boss Aaryn Flynn for the skinny.

“I think there’s this perspective among gamers – angry gamers – that EA comes along and buys studios and ruins them, or EA is forcing microtransactions,” Kotaku suggests. But Flynn isn’t having any.
“I think they are a great company to be a part of because they care very much about the creative process – they care about that – so they want you to be successful, and they will do whatever they can to help you be successful. Every company’s got constraints […] but they are excellent at giving creative freedom for sure.”

Just wanted to chime in, I disagree with less new IP's every gen. PS2 had arguably more than PS1.

PS3 may not have had as many, but they were quality. In fact, PS3 remains my favorite console gen. It saw the introduction of (not all console exclusive) the souls games, Valkyrie Chronicles, Uncharted, Last of US, Mass Effect series, Assassin's Creed series, Minecraft, Witcher, ect. Plus sequels like Skyrim, GTA IV-V, Diablo 3, God of War 3, various Tales Games, Disgaea games, ect.

As for PS4 gen, it's had a decent amount of good exclusives new IP's too. Some hit (Horizon ZD, Bloodborne), some miss (No Man's Sky, Knack, The Order:1886). However for sheer numbers, this gen saw a massive bump in exclusives thanks to indy games. If you count them, this gens console library might end up as one of the biggest of new IP's.

I think the problem is, we think of new IP's in terms of success, and not volume. The NES had a ton of successful New IP's. So many iconic RPG'S started on PS1. However many modern Indy games are hit, or miss. However, they are new games. Heck, most months PSN gives you two free games, usually new IP Indy games.

Flynn's full of **** or extremely gullible. Maybe he should look into what EA did to the Dead Space franchise. What they did to Battlefront. What they did to Sims. What they did to Mass Effect. What they did to Need for Speed. And then he can come tell us again that EA is benevolent and cares about the creative process and doesn't force microtransactions into games where they don't belong.

Agreed he amy also want a job back with them again too. and there's thatsad thing about bad mouthing your old boss's even if true it can aliennate you from feild of work your career is set in too. unless well off enough to create a job for your self. ether way I think he full of it. the only part that is correct is no one buys these thing to purposly shut them down.

but Ea does indeadrun these studio's into the ground with their chose's and I do think it's the managers they have mostlikle the with the paycheck's and those managers that are cutting corner's when the budget'snot what they expected and those really dubass one's starting feud's with other publishers. the place need's serisous restructuring with both tatlented abd a better class of managers that won't take the workers in the studio's out of work .

EA, and Microsoft are where newly acquired studios, and franchises go to die. However EA has also received worst company in America, and is hands down the worst microtransaction dealer.

They honestly don't care if they ruin franchises, as long as they can milk a lot out of it on the way down.

Heck, if a AAA quality title like Hellblade can start off selling at $30, and make a decent profit. EA's excuse that they NEED tons of microtransactions, collectors edition, and season passes to make Star Wars games profitable is laughable.

If they're going to the mobile phone freemium route, they need to stop charging $60 on top of that model like mobile games do.

Ps2 saw a huge amount of success so devs were confident in making new IPs I guess, but I don't necessary feel like there's been a lack of a good number of new IPs this gen either.

Anyways, this game is $11 on Amazon now, I might bite

So in my replay of the trilogy on PS3, I finally got around to playing the Citadel DLC from Mass Effect 3. I gotta say, it's great, fan service all around with nice bits of inside humor, and the whole story with the clone wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pretty rewarding experience I have to say. Even after all these years, playing it really refueled the ME fan in me.

Anthem’s “reactive storytelling” will influence the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect

According to Bioware, the style of “reactive” storytelling the studio are employing for Anthem will influence how it handles the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect games, and will probably cross over to those titles.Read more

Meh, doesn't matter. There won't be another Mass Effect game anyway. Series is dead.

They should roll out everything that works or looks good in Anthem to the next ME and make it a huge apology to fans by compensating in every way possible.

Apparently the game anthem will inform future mass effect games,

What do you want to see in the next mass effect game? I didn’t play the last one but it seemed people didn’t love it that much

Im not sure if he's naive or blowing smoke up our asses. There wont be a next great Mass Effect game. If EA has their way, and lets be real EA will have their way, the next Mass Effect game will be riddled with microtransactions and gambling. It will be loaded with grind and unbalanced as **** to encourage gamers to spend money for upgrades, perks, and gear.

Bioware died the day EA bought it. Now it's just a husk and a slave to the corporate EA overlords.

The series is dead, Adromeda saw to that. Mass Effect is gone, and it's not coming back.

The novel series just released it's third and final entry this past week, but I'm not sure many people even know that. I think this was the one covering the quarian ark, which was supposed to be DLC. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, and I'm not exactly excited about it either after the first book was so pedestrian (but still massively better than the actual game). It's too bad Drew Karpyshyn isn't writing them anymore, his Mass Effect books were excellent.

It's a bummer Andromeda was such a failure (though not undeservedly). I think BioWare blew their shot at expanding the universe, and the only way to get people excited for more ME would be to bring back Shepard. The problem is I'm not sure what else there is to do with the character. It'd be like bringing Frodo and Aragorn back for a LotR sequel. Once your hero's already beat the ultimate evil what more is there to do? They'd face the same problem the Star Wars sequels have had, which is recycling the same villains and conflicts from before.

Andromeda had the right idea in exploring an entirely new galaxy with a new crew, they just failed spectacularly with their execution and complete lack of imagination. BioWare could still right the ship, but I'm not sure they or EA have any interest in single player games anymore or anything that requires a little effort and creativity. Anthem looks dull and soulless and I'm not sure I'd even want a BioWare that's capable of putting out something as mediocre as that working on Mass Effect to begin with.
