Just wanted to chime in, I disagree with less new IP's every gen. PS2 had arguably more than PS1.
PS3 may not have had as many, but they were quality. In fact, PS3 remains my favorite console gen. It saw the introduction of (not all console exclusive) the souls games, Valkyrie Chronicles, Uncharted, Last of US, Mass Effect series, Assassin's Creed series, Minecraft, Witcher, ect. Plus sequels like Skyrim, GTA IV-V, Diablo 3, God of War 3, various Tales Games, Disgaea games, ect.
As for PS4 gen, it's had a decent amount of good exclusives new IP's too. Some hit (Horizon ZD, Bloodborne), some miss (No Man's Sky, Knack, The Order:1886). However for sheer numbers, this gen saw a massive bump in exclusives thanks to indy games. If you count them, this gens console library might end up as one of the biggest of new IP's.
I think the problem is, we think of new IP's in terms of success, and not volume. The NES had a ton of successful New IP's. So many iconic RPG'S started on PS1. However many modern Indy games are hit, or miss. However, they are new games. Heck, most months PSN gives you two free games, usually new IP Indy games.
