EA The Official Mass Effect Thread - Part 2

I want to say I beat Mass Effect Andromeda, but I really wasn't invested in the game. The original trilogy, I stay dialed in to it. Even now with my current play through. I don't think I ever played Mass Effect online! Guess I was missing out.

I wasn't crazy about the ending(s) for ME3. I think not having Drew Karpyshyn there made it suffer a bit. He said last year his ideas for the ending, and they sounded a bit more interesting. That said I loved the Citadel DLC!

Crazy thing about the ME3 ending is that it isn't bad if slightly tweaked, making some prior choices have a far greater significance to the end would've gone a long way.

That said, Shepard living should've been the Canon ending cause Citadel feels too much like an "after the end of the game" DLC. It was amazing.

You have to like coop modes, but if you do I think it’s as good as any that’s ever been released, especially when you really get into it. Even Andromeda’s coop mode was good, but unfortunately not supported long term with expansions like 3 due to the mixed reception to the underlying game.

The first trilogy means a lot to me. Such a shame Mass Effect didn’t go from strength to strength and become a long term staple.

Many good people were lost unfortunately, and their losses were felt on game decisions, but yeah Citadel was absolutely amazing!

I hate that I waited years to play the game. I started to play shortly after ME3 came out, as I was playing it one of my friends spoiled Shepard's ending, I just turned it off mid game pissed that he told me that. I eventually picked it back up years later and freaking loved every minute of it.

I picked up the complete Mass Effect Dark Horse comics, just never have got around to reading them. Maybe one day.

It really is amazing. I loved every bit of that DLC. And definitely should have been the canon ending!

Do you guys think a Mass Effect movie/series would ever work, or do you think it would sour the games by picking what they decide is "canon" for the films.

That really sucks that you had it spoiled. Glad you enjoyed the game after playing it after all this time.

I hope the comics are good. I’d love to read them.

I’d be very much up for films if they were executed with the best creatives and a high budget. If they choose a canon route that wouldn’t ruin it for me.

I feel like Starz/HBO are probably the only ones who could do it cause it HAS to be a show. There's no way to make it a movie If you want the GA to fall in love with rhe relationships that made ME what it is.

As far as the choices of Shepard...I feel like I'd be ok with whatever they want to do if it makes sense. I personally always saw Shepard as neither Paragon or Renegade, some choices I made with him just made sense based on the backstory I chose and how I saw him. I mostly played Shep as a Hero with an edge, kinda like what people always liked about Han Solo.

I'd be ok with either a Male or Female Shep too, they'd have to be a Soldier though cause then it makes the other characters and their abilities pop.

Yeah, a TV series would be the best route if they wanted to try and include all/most of the crew throughout the trilogy.

I've always just left my Shepard pretty stock. Soldier/Sole Survivor/Earth. I think the official Mass Effect posted the statistics of everyone's Shepard. I guess I'm in the minority of not punching reporters lol! Also,I thought more people would have saved Kaiden over Ashley.

I always romance Liara in ME1. ME2 I usually end up with Jack, because Liara isn't an option (well the Shadow Broker DLC.) then go back to Liara. Kinda hate the Legendary Edition didn't count the Liara romance for the trophy in ME2 lol.

Always Paragon!

The keepers were pretty easy for me.

I still don't know why I lost Grunt and Mordin. I did all the loyalty missions and the ship upgrades. It was annoying that they are nowhere to be seen in the spaceship. At least with me3, it took us back before the last 2 two missions after finishing the game.

That last keeper seriously haunts me every time.

But that infographic could be used as a good check of what most people like about Shepard and could easily be a nice baseline to write a show Shepard.

My male Shep playthrough was always as 75% paragon 25% renegade, as you say a hero with an edge. Prepared to get his hands dirty but also with honour. My FemShep playthrough was my 100% renegade playthrough and the most fun.

Never seen that before, quite fascinating to see how other people play and what decisions they make. Can’t believe anyone doesn’t punch reporters at the first opportunity. :D

This really reminded me how much I loved the games and makes me angry that we didn’t get this series continued in all its glory. When everything comes together in a ME game, like with the Suicide Mission and Citadel DLC, it’s unbeatable.

Someone mentioned that the Reapers should've been a one and done story cause ME2 being almost a quasi sequel showed that having different big bads could've really elevated the series. I tend to agree, the suicide mission really is incredible.

I totally loved Saren so would have welcomed more villains like him.

I just couldn't get into the reapers and they dedicated a trilogy for them. They were also quite faceless. Now imagine if the trilogy featured different lead antagonists for every each game, while going to different planets. While the Elusive Man spent 98% of his time in his office and wasn't really a satisfying villain.

That being said, I don't remember the main threat in Andromeda.

ME really could've done what Guardians of the Galaxy did, all 3 movies have distinct villains and it's a crew you fall in love with.

I love the ME games but yeah, it being stand alone games with the main characters would totally have been much better.

Has anything really leaked out about Mass Effect 4? I remember seeing the teaser a long time ago with Liara (I think it was her) but haven't really seen or heard much else.

I'm curious who the main character will be. Will they somehow bring Sheppy back or will it be an all new character.

I would be surprised that if Shepherd somehow returns.

I prefer if they start with a new character, and hopefully there will be more new alien species this time around. I hope its also quite different from the previous Mass effect games.

I like having squad members in missions and the spaceship and going to different planets during downtime (though in Mass Effect 3, you could only really visit Citadel especially when you finished the missions aside from the last two), but I'm not a fan of having thousands of selectable weapons/upgrades and even skills. I found a bit too much and they were pretty much waste for me as I really don't use 90% of them. I feel like less is more. The costumes need to be way cooler too.

I also want the vehicles but not just driving a car, but also something in the water, helicopter and motor bikes, especially when hopping around these different planets.

I may sound very pessimistic here, but I would seriously lower your expectations.

I'm not sure how you read my expectations, unless you meant to tag the other post lol. My expectations are non existent, not enough to even get excited about... yet lol. I was just curious if anything was rumored about Shepard being in it or not.

A new lead character is fine, as long as they are as good as Shepard was. More new alien species definitely.

Those additional vehicles sound cool, as long as they look appropriately sci-fi.

The only possibly evidence of Shepard being in the game is the apparent fact that Mass Effect 4 is using the Destroy Ending as the Canon ending.

Since you can see a dead reaper in the background, and Liara doesn't have the green synthesis trails on her body. And the teaser showed Mass Relays being repaired without Reapers (control ending).

Shepard can survive the destroy ending with a high enough galactic readiness bar.

I would argue the worse news is the loss of incredible Bioware talent. Many of the people they fired were senior Bioware creatives (because they had higher salaries). Loads of longterm Bioware staff were let go, including Mary Kirby (Creator of Varrick, who worked on every single DA game) and Luke Kristjanson was was there since Baldurs Gate 1. Such a bloody waste, and once experience is lost its very hard to get back. Demoralising for the other staff too. I'd rather a year delay to both games over a loss of talent like that.

Ironic. Larian's success with BG3 would have made the 90s' BioWare quite proud.
Maybe Larian need to make a sci-fi RPG to fill the hole that ME leaves since EA took over. So frustrating that EA had to be the ones that bought them, ME was one of my overall favourite series and I loved the co-op too.
