Wasn't that Benjamin Walker guy almost Beast in First Class?

Yes. He was flat out cast as Beast until they realized he looked too old be a student standing next to McAvoy and Fassbender (who were hired after he was) and ****-canned him.

Thanks, I knew the name sounded familiar. Anyway in some pics he looks great, in others not so much. However I'd say that he can look so radically different is a plus when playing Clark/Superman. Besides the obvious like Hammer or Porter or some such Walker is exactly the type of actor I can see auditioning for the part.

I mentioned in here long ago that I though Fassbender would make a decent Supes. I mean, I can definitely see it:

But as Majik said, he's the PERFECT choice for Green Arrow. That said, I'd still think he's a much better choice than Armie Hammer or any of these baby-faced youngsters.

Imo, if you're gonna get a 24-year-old, at least get a 24-year-old without a baby face. Like this guy, Ian Harding, who is apparently a month younger than Hammer according to IMDB:

Now, for the record, I am IN NO WAY suggesting him for Supes, because A.) he looks like he has a very tiny frame and is probably pretty short, and B.) I've literally never seen him act. I'm just using him as an example that you can have a young actor without a necessarily being a young-looking or baby-faced actor, like, imo, Armie Hammer is. The under-25 crowd CAN still look like a SuperMAN, and not Superboy.

has'nt tom said he wants to get into directing anyways sine he has directed some smallville episodes

Though I would love to see TW as Supes I think we should keep a real close eye on Zack Levi! There maybe a reason he denied that rumor. He is now aggressively looking to make the move to leading man roles. He just changed agencies for that exact purpose.Though I think the role is Hammer's to lose unless he doesn't like the offer.Zack might make a good Reed Richards in FF reboot.

Just to give you an idea what Zack would look like as Supes and CK here are a few pics to do as manips. Also don't forget he was Fandrel in Thor but had to b/o because of Chuck. I would but a bet on him at least getting a screen test.

Just flipping through the channels and saw this guy on Life Unexpected. Kristoffer Polaha, he's 6'3, has a decent voice and look. I really don't know much about him, seeing as how I've never seen the show. I don't know if he's been mentioned before, but he is on a WB show.

When i was looking for a pic of him, there was at least one with his name and a picture of Tom Welling. Anyhow, here he is.

You're kidding, right? :woot:

My thoughts exactly! Plus, why do people want a Reeve look-alike? Just because he played the role in three movies and that is who people associate Superman with, doesn't mean that is what Superman needs to look like forever. I prefer someone who doesn't fit the Reeve mold.

I didn't say I wanted him for Superman, just said he looks like Reeve.

Hammer doesn't look like Reeve. Hammer also doesn't look like Superman.

Haha, direct, to the point, and 100% truth. I like it.

Also, I meant to say this early, but thank you for your super sexy avvy. Make no mistake, my avvy is winking right back.

It is a great avvy. Sometimes I just stare at it....In my mind, I ask Hardy a TDKR related question. In return, Hardy just winks back, knowing.

It's hard to believe we've covered another 340 forum pages simply discussing who we think should be the next Superman ........................ and there's still no unanimity in any of the decisions.

Some people like Cavill, some like Routh, some like Welling, some like Manganiello, some like Hamm .......... and so on.

Some people fall into the category of obsessive supporters of one person, whilst others like a broad range of actors for the role. Personally speaking, I fall into the second category and have a lot of time for Routh, Welling and Manganiello for the role.

What is it that makes Superman so hard to cast? In essence, all we should need is a tall and well built dark haired actor. There's plenty of them around Hollywood. But the Superman role seems to be a lot more than simply some body stats written on a piece of paper. Even when 2 actors - lets say Routh and Welling - have already played the role to a certain extent, there are people out there who don't like certain facial or body features. Welling's lips, Routh's torso, etc.

The only actor I know of who has played Superman to near universal praise, was Christopher Reeve. I have never read any criticism of his 'look' on this forum, any other forum, or even any other media. We could honestly say he was born to play the role, such was the way he embodied it.

Now before anyone thinks I'm pushing for a Reeve clone, I'm not. We need a new actor, with a fresh look. But at the same think, I think it's important to look to Reeve for inspiration of sorts - what qualities did he have that convinced so many of us that he really was Superman? And are there any actors out there who have these same qualities but don't resemble Reeve facially?

I've deliberately used a still here from Superman II where he's not in the costume. To me, looking at him here as nothing more than a human actor, the following things are what would persuade me that he could play a superb Superman:

Neat facial features - no oversized nose/lips/ears. Everything in symmetry.
Wide/strong neck
Strong jawline
Kind, but noticeable/piercing eyes (contacts for the colour of course)
Thick, dark hair
Wide shoulders and generally strong upper body (chest) build, with narrowing waist
Height (6"4)
Maturity - he looks like Superman, not Superboy ..... this is something only the right face can deliver

Personally, I never cared that much for Reeve's look for Superman, but I am well aware I am in the minority. His soft side came across a little too much in his role as Clark for me. I know they had him be that uncomfortable, bumbling type, but you can still do that without looking too soft.

Reeve had a weird nose, but not as noticeable or distracting like Welling's flaring nostrils. Also, I've heard people saying that some did't like his look back in the day because he looked too young (compared to George Reeves). So yeah, now Reeve has reached a very high status in the fandom, but he was also criticized back in his day by some. I know of some poeple today who don't care for him much. I think he was great overall, but certainly not perfect or unbeatable in the role. Noone is.

I think fanboys are gonna have to except that we aren't ever going to get another Chris Reeve, nor should we frankly . That's why I hope Synder gets someone with a totally different look from Reeve and to truely cast someone who isn't trying to riff on what Reeve did.

Agreed! Excellent points, and what a glorious picture! No one I have seen so far looks remotely this good, even better looking actors/models. Inspired casting like this only happens so rarely, even after people get past the initial rejection and become convinced the actor in question can pull it off. Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr, they all owned their roles and silenced most of their critics. But could we see other actors playing those parts? Totally.

But I have a hard time picturing someone else doing a "better" Superman. Different, perhaps. Good, for sure (Routh was ok). But Chris Reeve was born for this. Just look at those unedited eyes, from a pre-CGI, pre-color grading era, for god's sake. How often do you see someone that can stare like that and embody everything Superman stands for? The only other only place I remember they from is Alex's Ross paintings.

Christopher Reeve didn't look like Superman when he was cast.

At the time, this guy was Superman according to the general public;

And for comic readers, Superman looked like this;

So when Reeve was announced, people complained that he didn't look the part, that he was too boy-ish, pretty, etc...

But when Superman: The Movie came out, people were dazzled by his performance and his look.

It wasn't until 1986 that John Byrne decided to draw Superman to look more like Reeve.
