I understand, I think superman should be able to have attitude also, he shouldn't always be wide eyed and innocent!! I just would wonder if Joe could portray the other sides of the character?

Something I'm pretty sure a Hamm or Cavill could so for sure. . .

I think either a respected higher profile tv/movie actor is the way to go

Hamm would be perfect, and while I like Cavill's look alot, I don't actually know how great an actor he is. I have no interest in watching The Tudors, and I've only seen him in the Count of Monte Cristo.. but that was years ago.

I definitely agree with that last part.. the time for some unproven unknown has passed. I think this is Superman's last shot for a while... if we end up getting another SR, Superman's probably done until we're getting reboots on Flash and Aquaman.

As far as Joe M goes, I still need to see more of his acting. As a True Blood fanatic, I'm still waiting on them to let him flex some character muscle for a change. With Joe's look, I dig it, he fits the bill physically. I'd believe in Joe fighting Darkseid or Braniac before I would believe in Routh, I'd be afraid Brandon's Superman would scream like a girl after some omega beam blasts. And Joe obviously loves the character and reads the comics, isn't being a fanboy half of what made Routh so popular? So those people would be won over eventually, given history. I just need to see more of his acting before I give it the definite stamp of approval.

At the very least, Joe can't be any more wooden than Routh.

Joe isn't a bad actor..

He just doesn't play anything outside the role of *****bags, meatheads and sex objects...

That's pretty much all he's good for.

That's the reason I don't like him for Superman, nothing to do with his facial features like the other posters are complaining about.

He'd be more suited for Bruno Mannheim.

Like I've said, I need to see more from Joe before I can really say. I've seen, thus far, his work on True Blood obviously, One Tree Hill where he was a meathead, and How I met Your Mother.

Lately, I've really opened my mind up to the idea of Skarsgard as Superman.

MOT, I see where you're coming from in your opinion about Joe, but just because an actor is typically cast as a *****ebag/lug-head type, doesn't mane that's all he can play. Have you seen him in anything where he tried to play a different type of character and failed at it? If so, then I could understand your viewpoint, but I don't think it's fair to say some guy couldn't play a particular type of role just because he hasn't done it before.

Remember, Heath Ledger never played a villain before he played the Joker.

Heath already proved he had range prior to the Joker.

Though it isn't so much about range as fitting the character.

Joe as the wholesome All-American boyscout? It would be a stretch.

Heath was already Oscar nominated no?! Male lead in several movies. . .
a tough comparison to Joe. . .

I feel we're clutching at straws here. . .

http://www.examiner.com/x-53315-Joe...ics-may-consider-Joe-Manganiello-for-Superman

San Diego, CA - Comic Con 2010 weekend is over, but there is still a buzz in the air over the constant events that took place.
The latest rumor is that DC Comics is seriously considering True Blood star, Joe Manganiello to play the Man of Steel in the next Superman installment. A role that would be fantastic news for the Pittsburgh native and avid comic book reader.
On July 1, 2010 we reported that Joe's dream role would be that of Clark Kent and his alter-ego, Superman. A Facebook group was started for fans to join in their petition to have Joe play the title role in the next film. It was due to fans urging that he landed the role of Alcide in the third season of True Blood (and has now been confirmed as a regular on the fourth season), can they do the same to land him his dream role?

Hmmm, wonder if it's true, WB considering him I mean. I know he wants the part.

cavill please

Go on then! ;) . . .

Well it looks like Joe M. is now being "seriously considered" for the role now. I'm sure it's just a rumor, but here it is anyway.

I'm taking this as seriously as the Zachary Levi rumour.

:up::yay::up:
Just Look at Welling or Routh, to some people they are perfect for the role, but to the other half they are dreadful and still cringe at the possibility of them being superman

Everyone's tastes are different, especially because throughout the comics and television/film adaptions he's had so many different looks, so it kind of depends on which one you like most.

I think the main issue people have with Routh is his acting ability. . . Most people agree he at least now looks the part. . .

Therefore we should be looking at actors who are known to be greatly talented and then looks come second? I still feel most of the suggestions are based on appearance and none of them seem to come close to Routh's. . .

My point is if you're going to sacrifice the perfect look, let's hear some names of potentials who can def nail the performance and who also have a workable, 'good enough' look, this is the way I think the casting people will be approaching the process this time. . .

Again, talking about actor's needing nose job's before going in front of the camera (and this is his supporters) seems absurd to me. . .

I'd rather have a guy who looked right but wasn't going to win any oscars, than have an oscar winning performer in the role. But that's just me.

I didn't realise Joe Manganiello played Flash Thompson in Spider-man, I wouldn't mind him at all tbh.

That's one of my biggest problems... it's just weird. You watch him in that role... how can anyone see Superman?

Yeah I keep thinking he might look okay as Superman, but I absolutely can't see him as Clark Kent... which weirdly for me is the more important look to get right.

I mean most of the Superman stuff is gonna be CGI anyway, so it's more important to look right as Clark.

Revealed Superman Returns audition tapes

Why would you post that? It's just irritating...

maybe not oscar worthy, but good enough to have been the main lead in a tv show/movie for sure!!! . . .

Hey the robin williams part was funny at least :D

None of it was funny.

Might have been possible for me to consider it comedy I suppose, if you had named it 'funny parody of a superman audition'... but you didn't.

So what stage of the game do you all think that they are at, right now? Could they be getting their casting wish list together and bringing them in for screentests at this point?

Check out Kill Bill volume 2, there's a good little speech in there that may shed some light on why Superman IS different from Spiderman or others.
Yeah, like I'm really gonna buy some screwball speech from a Quentin Tarantino movie. :whatever:

Frodo said:
The thing is , you're never going to find another Chris Reeve and it's never going to be 1978 again. The next guy who plays Superman is gonna have to bring his own personality to the role and not attempt to be a Reeve clone.
Bullseye.

But no matter how many years down the line, hes always going to have that young sounding voice (like Tobey MaGuire),which isn't right for Superman, being an a tough authoritative figure. Even though Tom can be intimidating,I cant get past his voice.
That is very well said and on point as to my main gripe with him for Superman.

Hugh Jackman would be such a perfect casting choice as Superman!

Too bad it most likely will never happen. :csad:

Instead we have to deal with another long list of slaphead unknown actors with no talent being suggested as Supes.....AGAIN...like last time. Ugh.....

Have to say I liked hearing John Manganiello tlaking about the possibility of Superman at G4s coverage. I would still love ROUTH, but I wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest if he somehow gets the job.
