lol yeah to a point I agree, but then you wouldn't have stories that went with all that would you? lol

See Blake was more than just a teaching tool of humility it was to show honor and Scarifice. Once Thor learned all that in volume 1 (and all the Avengers book) Odin seperated them.
Odin wanted to basically to take steps with Thor making sure Thor would Grasp what he was sent here for. In a way it back-fired and Thor didn't want to return to Asgard as you can see in the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

That still doesn't require the need for him to be a whole other person.

It ultimately boils down to this: Why make a human host for a god rather than just turning that god INTO a human in the first place?
because beings like Loki could take advantage of that somehow since it's Still Thor's body, and a few spells here and there could make Thor a dangerous slave. lol
which actually happens in volume 1. lol

ok guys gotta take a nap before work. lol seeya before work maybe. lol

Because it would be easy to be cast down as a mortal but still yourself and not learn humility at all.

He would still have lived a whole human lifetime thinking he was a mortal and being subject to all the difficulties therein.

If anything, it could serve to make you incredibly bitter and jaded.

Ah, now we're getting somewhere. It could do that or Thor could eventually come to realize the important lesson this was all designed to teach him. But that's the risk Odin was willing to take andbecause Thor at heart is a good person & a hero he ultimately understands & accepts the lesson. That's not to say that he wouldn't have a time to go through after regaining his memories that he wouldn't be a bit bitter since we want him as a three dimensional character. But he'd ultimately overcome that. That's just another leg of his hero's journey.

But to experience the world through a specific set of eyes, namely someone who has suffered a great deal but still gives everything they have to help others...THAT would be more interesting, no?

It's more that it's just not necessary to accomplish the same result.

Odin could have easily just cast a spell that hid mortal Thor from Loki's sight for the duration of his mortal life. And while he's going through all this on earth, Thor IS a human. He retains NO aspects of his former state and is no more dangerous that any other human body. I just don't see why they couldn't have done it this way.

Because, at the time, the duality of superheroes was an important factor as well. Let's not forget when Thor was created. It became his identity, crossing between Blake and Thor. Whilst it might not be necessary now, that was just one of the tropes of Superhero comics.

I don't see why the duality needs to be lost in the stream-lining. Just like Clark Kent & Superman are the same person, Thor & Donald Blake would be too.

So I'm back from watching Thor 3D and it was okay, but not as great I hoped. So I would say I'm a bit dissapointed. First of all, everything was rushed. Characters, events and places were introduced quickly and there was nobody you would care all that much about, because who are these people anyway and what is at stake here? Like Fandral, he must be the jolly swashbuckler, because he laughs when his cutting down the frosties. That's all.
And the much talked about (in interviews) father/sons dynamics. Nothing juicy came out of it. Because again, things had to move forward quickly. No time to have any emotional investment. Just raising through the scenes. So asgardians need a good king? We don't even see any asgardians, except the elite that is Thor and his friends. Sigh.
And the thunder and lightning I was hoping to see in the promotional material, well there wasn't much of that in the movie either. The actors were good, but I think Tom Hiddelston was the weakest, perhaps because of the weak script. Not that the warriors three had it any better. I really blame everything on the need to get through the scenes fast. This movie should have been at least three hours long with more character development and maybe greater battle scenes showing more of Thor's mighty powers. The use of Mjolnir was good though , it was cool to see Thor wave and spin it like in the comics. The flying was also nice. But all and all this movie is unworthy to be THE Thor movie I was waiting for. It was simply too rushed. If I had to rank the marvel movies here's how they go now:

1. Iron Man
2. The Incredible Hulk
3. Iron Man 2
4. Thor

This movie failed to capture the epicness that is Thor, god of thunder. I find it sad to say that this, to me, is almost forgetable movie.

"Nobody can beat Anthony Hopkins. Except me. I wanted to play Odin, and I'm still a little bit angry -- I mean Anthony Hopkins, he's no Stan Lee, but he did a great job.

Haha, Stan Lee is the man. :funny:

I would have preferred 'Gloriously Epic' but ah well...

My advice? See it again in 2D.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think it would help, unfortunetly. I just didn't feel much troughout the movie. Like the scene in the end when SPOILERS Odin is holding Thor by the leg and Thor is holding the spear that Loki's holding. This could have been more powerful scene, had I been invested in these characters more, but due to the lack of development or any warm moments, I got nothing.

Only time I felt even a little bit of something, was in the very end with Thor and Odin, when Odin says he already is proud of Thor. But that's not much. It wasn't epic enough. :(

If this keeps up, I won't be able to wear my old "Adventures In Babysitting" T-shirt I scrolled away...

Everyone seems to like Thor!

We need to get BigThor one of those shirts hehehe

Personally I think the reason Thor and Blake wasn't the same person since birth was because the writers didn't want it to be so originally. You could look for logical reasons in the comics but there is no real logic for it it was just the choice the writers made originally. So just roll with it and stop trying to find reason in something that is unreasonable to begin with. In every comic there is all kinds of faulty logic in it.

He didn't like it. My life continues regardless.

Only one bad review out of the top critics so far. You do the math, by the time this gets over 200 reviews, which it should have, it should stay above 90%.

Well if it was Lee & Kirby's original idea to not have them actually be the same person then so be it. I still think it's needlessly complicated but whatever.

Ked, lol I don't know, The Norse gods like to be complicated....What can I say? lol

Hehehe, more likely some of the writers just over-thought it. Oh well, I enjoyed the movie anyway.

I have seen the movie tonight. :yay:

Only two words:great movie!

Maybe the best comic book movie from the first Iron Man.
