A lot of early pictures we were seeing of the sets and costumes on set didn't have the post-production effects added (as was, I thought, obvious at the time).
Yeah, but I still kinda feel that way, even after the effects were added. The suit definitely looks better (I love that shine that the sleeves have gotten), but the sets are still hit-and-miss for me.

One thing I was wondering to all of you who have seen the movie already. When he does that scream looking into the sky when he can't lift Mjolnir(sp?), does it come off as cheesy at all? It just reminds me of those scenes like when Nightowl does it in Watchmen and Rourke in the beginning of Iron Man.

Hell no. He did it really really well. I hate it when the no's are done really bad (Vader in ROTS and Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2). It's not on par with Wood's "No" in FOTR but it is rather good.

I have to disagree with all those who didn't like costumes/sets/music in Asgard. I personally loved it in Asgard. Okay everything was pristine and clean but in my opinion they are Gods. They are proud and vain. I doubt they are gonna let Asgard be as mistreated as Earth. Humans are the only race stupid enough to destroy the planet we live on.

Great movie. I loved it
despite the part on earth and the town: it seems the village where Zod arrived in Superman II.

Nah, comes across fine.

No bootlegs please Frantic. There's a thread at the top of these threads on it, can't miss it

This film needs an extended cut. Only thing I have to "com

Yeah I felt it dragged too much in parts (when he was on Earth) but then the beginning was EXTREMELY rushed. I would've like another 2 or 3 minutes on the history of Asgard just to give it a more epic feel.

I give it an 8 out of 10. It was pretty good and better than I hoped like a first Thor movie can be. I hope audiences will appreciate it.

One of my favourite scenes actually - He's seriously shattered there. Fantastic.

I'm confused at the length of Thor's action scenes, I'm hearing far too many different answers in relation to that question.

So are all of them short, or is it just the Destroyer fight?

Destroyer's long enough, just:

When Thor regains his powers, his defeat of the Destroyer is appropriately quick and euphoric.

The battles with the Jotunheim and Loki were long enough too.

By far of the best. But I still wanted more, it was big-scale action in a small town. The best action is in Thors first fight quite early in the film.

It's Branagh weakest area, the character stuff is where the strength of the film lies but overall it's pretty decent.

Side note, is there gonna be a thread for people to actually talk about the film in detail? It's hard not to give away spoilers given it's been released two weeks ahead of time down here.

Cool, as long as its not poor like the Iron Man movies which really brought those movies down at times IMO.

40% in god-costume, 60% in street clothes was what my impression was

Yeah, and it's a shame, the helmet was perfect. So is Loki's, it made him even more threatening.

surprisingly i was fine with thor's helmet only used a few times, i'm glad they kept loki's on though

I saw Thor last thursday but wasn't able to write this untill today.

Ok, too many good reviews so I’ll throw this:

"THOR"

Superhero movies are like going to the casino. You know most of times you’re not going to win but you always have the hope that you will. Or at least have a good time no matter what the result is.

For the better or the worse Marvel has found a specific style for his movies. No matter if the director is some unknown or, say, Kenneth Branagh, the movie will look and feel like a Marvel superhero movie. And as such you know what you’ll find and thus there’s room for fun but not so much for unpredictability and the artistic identity of the filmmaker.

Thor starts great. Half an hour of battle, with Thor in full costume fighting with all his raging might the enemies of his realm. I was wondering what would come next that could keep that level of interest. And that’s when everything turns out to be more of the same.

Using all his charisma, Chris Hemsworth gives a nice performance, but it’ss far from being convincing at the moment of showing why and how Thor comes from an arrogant God to a level-headed superhero. The script doesn’t make much about it. One second he’s throwing glasses to the ground and – literally – the next he gets that it’s not a polite behaviour and shouldn’t be done and thus, somehow, he doesn’t do it anymore. But more unconvincing than that is the reason why he learns so incredibly and uninterestingly fast.

The trio performed by Stellan Skarsgard, Kat Dennings and Natalie Portman is the movie-killer here. Ok, Skarsgard character is fine by itself, at least nicely portrayed. But the girls are there for two purposes that are by far unfulfilled: comedic relief – which, as usual in most superhero movies, is nothing but one cheap unfunny cringe-and-facepalm-worthy irrelevant joke after another, and to provide the love interest, which here is completely unconvincing and the weakest from most movies of the genre.

There’s really nothing about Natalie Portman’s character except that most male teenagers want to have her. Her character is nothing but bad jokes and some adolescent gestures and behaviour. There’s no solid reason as to why the God of Thunder himself could feel attracted to this tiny skinny annoying girl. And this “love” is supposed to be such that sadness will overwhelm the fair-haired God. One would say that a wild warrior or a brave woman could do it, but Portman character’s ephemeral personality doesn’t cut it by a long long shot. And she’s supposed to be the reason as to why Thor matures!

Apart from the annoying trio, the acting is okay. Loki being the most interesting character with the most complex internal conflict and the most developed external manifestation of that conflict. And well, it’s always nice to watch Anthony Hopkins, specially in such a badass armor, no matter how many times we’ve seen him doing the same thing as an actor.

“Thor” is like a reverse sandwich: the best parts are at the beginning and the end. In the middle there’s a big loaf of irrelevant and void average thing. The final battle, even when not as surprising as the first one - and being more razzle dazzle than anything else – brings you back to the goodies of this film.

What does the Branagh name mean when he’s been forced into a pre-fabricated mold? Not much. Nevertheless “Thor” is most of the time better than the average superhero movie Marvel has been developing for the last 3 or 4 years. But as a whole it doesn't feel much different.

I had the good idea of walking out before watching the after credits scene which I’m sure was, as usual, saying that the villiain is not actually defeated and that the Avengers movie is coming.

Huge surprise!

+ actors
+ music
+ Asgard scenes

Script is decent and action scenes too. Even 3D is good.

For me, it's the best Marvel yet! Better than both Iron Man movies (IM2 is a crap) and the Incredible Hulk.

8.5/10

I finally saw the movie yesterday night, I had to get my thoughts right after watching it because I really LOVED IT, so I wanted more time to know if it was because I am a fan that has been "stalking" this movie and Chris H (I am a girl couldnt stay away from a celebrity crush) or because it was in fact good, any how with that aside I will give my "short" review.....The movie is really great, its impressive, fun, dynamic and very human. (minor spoilers below, I guess)

Locations: Asgard is beautiful, the little town is a good place to be banished and learn a lesson because there is nothing impressive about it and Junthenheim is creepy.

Attire: The Asgardians look amazing I loved every piece of the armors and clothes, I am sure there are more details that we cannot appreciate in the big screen. Earth clothes well those are normal :woot:

Story: It was one of the best things of the movie, is simple and very human. I felt every main character (and small too), the story of two brothers so eager to prove themselves to a father that loves them and wants them to be leaders and overall good is not foreign to anybody. Some people have complained that his change from brash cocky soldier to good hearted humble person is not believable because it happens in such a short amount of time, but I will disagree, on a review above it said that he learns too quickly on how to behave, well I got that he is a prince that has lived listening to the stories of every realm and knows how different they are, they are not barbaric characters, he likes the thrill to fight and is hot headed but he is never depicted as an animal with no good manners, so he learns fast how to be around humans because the fact he is cocky doesnt mean he is no gentleman and smart, his change to humble is too fast? maybe, but I think that is believable because until the whole "not been able to lift his hammer" to the news that he gets later on, well it could ground anyone on a bit, he was cocky but never cold hearted so I see it fits perfectly in fact there is a scene that involves certain awesome characters on earth and what he says to them and the way he does it shows exactly that he is an honorable warrior which he always was minus the arrogance of course.

Characters: OMG loved ODIN he is a badass wise king, Loki, let me tell you that for some reason I thought he was going to be great but he exceeded my expectation you cannot really hate him an Tom did an amazing job to show all the feelings his character was going through, The warriors, even though I read some saying there were in too little I think that they were in a right amount of time and doing things that they should be doing I really liked how they stayed true to what they believed no elaborate back story for them that would need a whole movie, Heimdall one word = Cool, yep cool he is the coolest gate keeper ever and is impressive, Laufey he was very imposing and not only because of his size but the way he conducted himself in the scenes was really nice, Humans I really enjoyed the scenes with them, My favorite humans were Jane and Dr. Selvig (dunno why) and THOR well is true that Chris H was a surprise (even though I found him really hot before) I was as everybody really afraid he wouldnt deliver but he does, he is great as Thor and I really enjoyed his character I think when I liked him the most is when realization arrives that he wont go home its heartbreaking and a turning point for him, but his arrogant and hot headed is also great to watch he was massive and having so much fun in battle that you just want him to destroy everthing:whatever::woot:.

The interactions with Chris and Tom are so well shown as a real sibling relationship, they both have great chemistry on screen and their scenes were my favorite....well the whole movie is now my favorite:cwink:

I wish the movie would have been longer though, yes some CGI scenes were not all good and sometimes it did felt rushed. I saw it in 3D and I´ll watch it today in 2D but I can tell you that even though was not as bad as other 3D movies and I didnt get dizzy, you might not missing that much if you go on 2D.
