Here's my review, I moved it from the News & Pics Thread
I finally saw Thor two days ago and I loved it, it didn't feel nearly as short as some people were making it out to be. Hemsworth was phenomenal and Hiddleston was great as well, I have to say that his portrayal of Loki is the best Marvel villain to date. Hopkins as Odin were another perfectly cast character, I felt his pain when he hurt, his anger when he was angry, and his compassion when he was kind.
Asgard was STUNNING with it's golden buildings, vast landscape, and ancient carvings throughout the inside of the throneroom. The Bifrost bridge is my favorite location in the film, it's design was better than anything I could've imagined. Jotunheim was almost equally impressive with it's dark and gloomy atmosphere and gigantic structures made up of mountains of ice. The Earth scenes provided and unique contrast with the previously mentioned realms and I actually enjoyed the film going back and forth between Earth, Asgard, and Jotunheim.
The Warrior's Three were pretty spot on as well, each of them embodied their characters much more than I thought they would. Jaimie's was spectacular as Sif, she was tough with out being your typical "I'ma female and I'm just as tough as the guys" type character. Elba's take on Heimdall was just as amazing as everyone said he was, the effect they used to digitally deepen his voice was also pretty cool. Colm Feore's Laufey was badass and the Frost Giants also look much more impressive than they do in the trailer, some even looked as big as 15 ft tall. My favorite fight scene in the film takes place between them and Thor's group, each of the Asgardians held their own while Thor tore through them like a madman.
I enjoyed Portman's take on Jane and she certainly brought some unexpected spark to the role that you couldn't see in the trailers. Selvig was one of my favorite earth characters and he's probably the biggest reason I like the earth scenes so much. Darcy was alot more subtle than thought she would be which is a good thing, I actually liked her character and she was very well recieved by the audience. Shield's inclusion in the story was alot more natural than any of the previous Marvel Studios films and Hawkeye's cameo seemed to fit without feeling forced.
The story flowed quite well and it didn't seem nearly as short or choppy as I heard it was, although the transitions could've been a little bit smoother. Thor's change from arrogant to humble was quite convincing imo and it didn't feel rushed at all, but I can understand how some may think it could've been a bit longer. Thor's relationship with Jane also felt quite authentic and although it happened relatively quickly, it still managed to work do to Chris and Natalie's great chemistry.
The action scenes were also well done and I'd rank this film right alongside TIH as having the best fight scenes out of it's fellow Marve Studios films. The fight with the Destroyer was also alot more impressive than I heard it was, despite it's short length it was still spectacular due to it's scope and the amount of power displayed. The final fight with Loki was very emotionally charged and it was filled with it's share of awesome moments and it ended perfectly with the "jaw dropping" destruction of the Bifrost bridge.
The effects in the film were great for the most part but there were a few scenes that weren't on par with the others. My only gripes is that Rene Russo could've used more screen time because she was great as Frigga and I would also have liked to see a bit more of Hogun since he's my favorite member of the Warrior's Three. The Frost Giant fight scene could been shot a little further away from the action because it didn't seem a bit close at time, but not nearly as bad the first Transformer's fight scenes.
All in all, I'd say it's the same league as the first Iron Man and it's in my top 5 favorite comic book films of all time.
I give Thor a well earned 9/10
