I hope we get Balder next time, the group felt incomplete w/o him.

Saw this movie twice today. I absolutely loved it. 10/10

The movie is fun, dramatic, and action packed. I don't get how some of the reviewers were saying Thor and Jane were all "in love." I think they liked each other, but I wouldn't say it was love just yet. Using your two eyes would prove that. Speaking of those two, the chemistry between Chris and Natalie was a joy! It was very natural and real. Hemsworth was a very charming Thor. I always worried about finding an actor who could do it, but Chris pulled it off great.

The Bifrost and Asgard scenes were some of my favorites. Those effects brought that place to life with vibrant light and great architecture. It was a wonderous sight!

To me, it's on par with Iron Man. Neither was better than the other, they were both great for that particular character.

I honestly feel I can't say enough praise for this movie, especially when my excitement for it didn't quite match others around here. But i just got back from Thor and it truly blew me away. There wasn't a single part abput the movie I didn't love. I wanted more Sif and Warriors Three, Hemindall, and Frigga, but in a good way. Adored the Kat Dennings' humor, the relationship bewteen Thor and Jane, and Dr. Selvig...

But the standouts for me were Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, and Anthony Hopkins. I'm so happy with how the movie developed Loki's relationship with Thor and Odin, and TH's acting was completely spot-on. The absolute perfect Marvel villain.

Damn, but this was just a great movie.

Wow, just saw the movie. Marvel did a great job with Thor, the visuals of Asgard was stunning. Chris is - Thor plain and simple. This was the Marvel movie that I was really worried about it and Marvel knocked it out the park. Damn that was a good movie. My girlfriend isn't a fan of the superhero movies but even she got geeked when Thor's powers returned and he took out the Destroyer.

I saw this movie today and absolutely loved it. Chris Hemsworth really was great as the lead. I thought he and Portman had very good chemistry. I liked the whole set design behind Asgard and I liked the mix of technology and magic angle it had. It was very unique and I thought it worked. The film was very entertaining and there were a lot of funny scenes, particularly after Thor comes to earth. I had doubts they could really make a Thor film work but I was proven wrong. They did a great job with this.

Saw the film tonight after waiting two years for it. For me, the was the best mainstream comic book movie of the past ten years. For the first time I feel like the magic of the comics were embraced. The only movie that I foresee surpassing Thor in this aspect is Green Lantern.

Aesthetically, the 'Thor' was impressive. Asgard almost made me shed a tear from the sheer beauty of it. The costumes were slick as hell. The grace and intricacy that went into making the realm of the gods is nothing short of astounding.

Hemsworth, Hopkins, and Hiddleston were the driving forces behind the movie. Which was important on since their relationship as father and sons is the biggest plot of 'Thor'. The emotion projected by these three left me floored. There is something to be said about Branagh's ability to reach deep within his actors and pull from them something pure and rich that transcends the scene their in. The Shakespearian elements were well implemented and made the story of Odin, Thor, and Loki much more complex and intimate.

Of course, Lady Sif and the Warrior's Three were great. I just wish there were more of them. The development of these character left a lot to be desired. The grand prize for complete ownage of a minor role goes to Idris Elba. This guy knocked Heimdall out of the park. Though people complain about his race, he honestly did an impeccable job. A man of such few words left such a huge impression with me.

A lot of people on here was complaining about Thor learning humility too fast. I personally had no problem with it. My ability to accept the expedient change in temperament came from my understanding of how so many tragedies bombarding you at once can cause you to reevaluate your life pretty damn quickly. I shall elaborate on this further in spoilers.

Thor goes through some emotionally distressing crap within a very short time span. Crap that is life altering. First, he suffers the lowest point in his life after failing to lift the hammer. With this failure came the reality that he is not worthy of the blood he carries. Then come the false news that his father is dead. This crushes Thor since his last moments with Odin is of him breaking his father's heart. I don't know about you all, but the thought of me contributing to my parent's death would haunt me until my dying day.

If I had any complaint then it would be two things. One is the relationship between Jane and Thor that becomes very heavy handed. I like the subtlety of their growing relationship at first but then it became overkill for me. Another thing that bothered me was the constant shift back to earth while very important events were going on in Asgard. But this is almost a problem with films of this type. You have to share screen time between two important locations but I wish their was a way Branagh could have done it without messing with the flow of film.

All in all, the movie gets a 9/10 for me.

One thing I forgot to add is the the "hammer spinning." I thought I remember hearing that it was going to be to hard to do so they were going to leave it out, then it was in, and that brought my excitement up more.

Not that I was really worried about how it would look...but overall I have to say I was very pleased with how it turned out. It looked like it was spinning really fast, while you could still make out what it was at the same time. I only had to explain that to one person I know, they were wondering what the hammer was doing.

Subtle little things like that made the inner geek jump for joy.

I saw Thor a second time yesterday and it was just as amazing as the first time I saw it. It would be awesome to explore the other realms in Thor 2 and things like that.

78% on RT. I was hoping it could finish above 80 but there probably won't be enough reviews left for that to happen now. At least the user rating didn't tumble with the percentage drop.

It's funny because there's all this fuss about the forced "love" issue ..... but nowhere in the movie did it ever state there was love. It was pure enchantment. Nothing about it was forced or untimely.

I also saw Thor for a second time today and I like it a good bit more than I did after the first viewing and I already liked it ALOT after the first viewing

I've finally decided on whether I give it an 8.5 or a 9/10, and I definately give it a 9/10 now.

I think Thor being in the hands of Kenneth is just pure luck at this point and i'm just so happy about that. I feel as though we got lucky with Thor like we did with Sam Raimi on Spider-Man ( the Spider-Man franchise is still the best, IMO). Raimi did an amazing job IMO and now Kenneth has done pretty much the same with Thor. I just love the possibilities with future Thor films/appearances now. Not only will we be seeing Thor return in the Avengers, but it's more than likely he'll be getting a sequel in 2014 or something like that.

It was enetertaining at times, mainly the scenes on earth with Portman and her chick sidekick (who consequently steals the show) ...

Scenes on uber fantasy land are played way too melodramatic, boring, and ultimately way too geeky. Makes Lord of the Rings seem less geeky and more believable, and I didn't think that would ever be possible with such high octane fantasy world.

Thor is charming at times, but nothing special.

CGI was solid.

Hopkins was meh, Loki and the characters of Thor's world outside of himself are so bland and boring. And the villain surely isn't an interesting one.

Oh yea, about that HUGE pothole barely addressed of him being the world's smallest Frost Giant, whose half human, and has magical powers and can turn into a Frost Giant when he feels like? Uhhh, ok. Did a Frost Giant rape his mother?

Entertaining, byt really forgettable. Nothing memorable at all. Movie doesn't play on in your minds like true great movies do once you leave the theater.

Overall 6 / 10

The internetz .... where everyone is a wannabe critic.

If Kat Dennings stole the entire show for you then I suggest you stop watching movies.

Here's my review, I moved it from the News & Pics Thread

I finally saw Thor two days ago and I loved it, it didn't feel nearly as short as some people were making it out to be. Hemsworth was phenomenal and Hiddleston was great as well, I have to say that his portrayal of Loki is the best Marvel villain to date. Hopkins as Odin were another perfectly cast character, I felt his pain when he hurt, his anger when he was angry, and his compassion when he was kind.

Asgard was STUNNING with it's golden buildings, vast landscape, and ancient carvings throughout the inside of the throneroom. The Bifrost bridge is my favorite location in the film, it's design was better than anything I could've imagined. Jotunheim was almost equally impressive with it's dark and gloomy atmosphere and gigantic structures made up of mountains of ice. The Earth scenes provided and unique contrast with the previously mentioned realms and I actually enjoyed the film going back and forth between Earth, Asgard, and Jotunheim.

The Warrior's Three were pretty spot on as well, each of them embodied their characters much more than I thought they would. Jaimie's was spectacular as Sif, she was tough with out being your typical "I'ma female and I'm just as tough as the guys" type character. Elba's take on Heimdall was just as amazing as everyone said he was, the effect they used to digitally deepen his voice was also pretty cool. Colm Feore's Laufey was badass and the Frost Giants also look much more impressive than they do in the trailer, some even looked as big as 15 ft tall. My favorite fight scene in the film takes place between them and Thor's group, each of the Asgardians held their own while Thor tore through them like a madman.

I enjoyed Portman's take on Jane and she certainly brought some unexpected spark to the role that you couldn't see in the trailers. Selvig was one of my favorite earth characters and he's probably the biggest reason I like the earth scenes so much. Darcy was alot more subtle than thought she would be which is a good thing, I actually liked her character and she was very well recieved by the audience. Shield's inclusion in the story was alot more natural than any of the previous Marvel Studios films and Hawkeye's cameo seemed to fit without feeling forced.

The story flowed quite well and it didn't seem nearly as short or choppy as I heard it was, although the transitions could've been a little bit smoother. Thor's change from arrogant to humble was quite convincing imo and it didn't feel rushed at all, but I can understand how some may think it could've been a bit longer. Thor's relationship with Jane also felt quite authentic and although it happened relatively quickly, it still managed to work do to Chris and Natalie's great chemistry.

The action scenes were also well done and I'd rank this film right alongside TIH as having the best fight scenes out of it's fellow Marve Studios films. The fight with the Destroyer was also alot more impressive than I heard it was, despite it's short length it was still spectacular due to it's scope and the amount of power displayed. The final fight with Loki was very emotionally charged and it was filled with it's share of awesome moments and it ended perfectly with the "jaw dropping" destruction of the Bifrost bridge.

The effects in the film were great for the most part but there were a few scenes that weren't on par with the others. My only gripes is that Rene Russo could've used more screen time because she was great as Frigga and I would also have liked to see a bit more of Hogun since he's my favorite member of the Warrior's Three. The Frost Giant fight scene could been shot a little further away from the action because it didn't seem a bit close at time, but not nearly as bad the first Transformer's fight scenes.

All in all, I'd say it's the same league as the first Iron Man and it's in my top 5 favorite comic book films of all time.

I give Thor a well earned 9/10

Damn, 2014 seems so far away right now and I know this is unlikely, but I wish Thor 2 could come out after Iron Man 3 in 2013.

I do as well, my friend. However, even Chris Hemsworth said he'll need to take a break after Avengers before doing a second Thor.

Did they start right away with Avengers after Thor was done?

Yes after the end credits.
Thor Will Return in The Avengers
In a post-credits scene, Dr. Selvig is taken to a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility where he meets Nick Fury. Fury asks Selvig to study the recently-discovered Cosmic Cube, which holds untold power, to which Selvig agrees. It is then revealed in a mirror refection that Loki is masquerading as Eric Selvig , who has been transported to Earth.

Okay, I know she's confirmed herself she's not in Avengers but how the hell are the going to get past the idea of Thor not seeing Jane in the Avengers considering part of Thor's redemption and the whole ending rests on his feelings for Jane?

Portman's got to have some type of cameo right? I mean, since Thor will be on Earth in the Avengers, he's got to acknowledge Jane in some form or fashion?

A line of dialogue is not going to work. We have to see these two together again in some form in the Avengers.

I'm not talking about the timeline. I meant if they started filming right after Thor.

Yes, they pretty much started filming after the us premier

The film was not iron man and Darcy was annoying a lot of times but it was enjoyable and interesting.
