I think some people who are linked to Marvel or Warner Bros - or who want the rights to be handed back to Marvel - might be acting that way...:wow:

Shocker.

If the movie is good, who cares who makes it? I think First Class is better than Thor. Not sure if it's better than Iron Man, I'd have to watch FC a few more times. I plan on seeing it again in the theaters. (This is coming from someone who saw Thor 3 times in the theater.)

are you serious? Everybody was laughing at the horrible posters
I'm not talking about the posters. I'm talking about the entire promotion campaign--the stuff that people actually pay attention to, like the tie-ins, the commercials, the featurettes, and the trailers. Not just the posters.

My general perception is that it wasn't marketed as heavily as The Last Stand or Wolverine, but I have no real evidence to back that up apart from my own overall feeling that I didn't see as much material offline. It's possible that they were trying to keep the marketing budget down, hence the crappy posters and reliance on Facebook.
It was very well marketed, not quite as heavily as X3 or Wolverine (times have changed dramatically in the marketing world over the last 2-3 years), but it definitely wasn't lackluster. BTW, I've never seen any of these "crappy" posters anywhere in my location. I've only seen them online.

Predicting the movements of the general audience is tricky. Harsh reviews didn't put them off flocking to Pirates 4 or Hangover 2.
I'm not talking about reviews. That's not where that perception comes from---at least not what I'm referring to here. I'm talking about how so many people are and have been associating this movie with Wolverine and X3 to the point where they aren't that too excited or in a rush to see this. Hangover is an entirely opposite situation and Pirates 4, while doing ok, definitely didn't perform quite as well as people expected, but the thing is, Pirates 4 had a lot more going for it than XMFC did in terms of momentum and profitability.

I just don't understand why those who hate the films bother to post In X_Men message boards.

Does it really matter which studios put out these films.Hell If you want to see X-men films waiting for marvel to get the rights back cossidering how marvel Studios work it could be 10 years before another X-Men film.Marvel hasn't moved on any non Avengers project and 4 years after being announced we are still no closer to Ant-Man being made.

One thing that will keep me from seeing certain franchises In theatres Is all these different contunits. My Limit Is three to spend my money on.With superhero 2 Live action and one Animated.I won't be paying to see Man of Steel. And If Warner Brothers reboots
Batman after The Dark Knight Rises I am out.I may rent the DC ANimated films but refuse to buy any of them Inless they return to the DC Animated universe.

The Amazing Spider-Man may not be any better than the Rami films But I will see It.If they next James Bond film Is a real bond and not Jason Bourne ripoff I will pay to see It In theatres again despite not liking the reboot(I didn't pay to see Quontum of Solace In Theatres) If J.J. Abrams does end up directing Star Trek Again I will be In Audence despite not worshiping at her alter like some do.

motivation isn't a issue when everyone faces annihilation if they don't help the hobbit suceed in his task

How is that any different than mutants with different ideologies going head to head in addition to the world on the brink of war?

Even if XFC underperforms, I hope Fox takes the critical and public praise into account when deciding to make a sequel. XFC2 would almost have to make more cash.

Whats with the Abrams hate, what does that have to do with FC?

Anyways, those weekday numbers are mediocre and in noway point to a great drop this weekend. I'm seeing 53 to 57% right now. Like I always say, maybe I'll be wrong and it has a better drop than that.

Yes, the horrible posters were only online, but they weren't very helpful as an indicator of quality or confidence in the film; they merely provided more fuel to the doubters and haters.

I'm not talking about reviews. That's not where that perception comes from---at least not what I'm referring to here. I'm talking about how so many people are and have been associating this movie with Wolverine and X3 to the point where they aren't that too excited or in a rush to see this.

I think it's the passionate film lovers (movie geeks) who might have been dissuaded by X3 and Wolverine. I don't know any mainstream viewers who felt that badly or who bear such grudges - most normal folk simply don't invest that much of their time and energy into films, let alone have bitterness simmering for years; it's just 'entertainment.'

Hangover is an entirely opposite situation and Pirates 4, while doing ok, definitely didn't perform quite as well as people expected, but the thing is, Pirates 4 had a lot more going for it than XMFC did in terms of momentum and profitability.

I agree about Hangover, that had the momentum of the first film.

The point was that critics' excoriating reviews of Pirates 4 and Hangover 2 had little impact on viewer trends. Same with First Class; an 86 per cent rating (which was nearly 100 per cent originally) doesn't seem to have been a deciding factor. The power of the critic is truly fading...

From Box Office Guru:

Sources tell me #Super8 heading to about $11M FRI, #XMen $9-10M. Tight race for wknd w/ about $30M each.

^That's good. I hope that's not an overestimate like the opening weekend numbers were.

When I saw 'Super 8' today, most people seemed to be packing in to see 'X-Men: First Class'. Let's just say... I liked what I saw. :woot:

Yeah as I said, I don't expect Super 8 to do gangbusters and there's not a huge overlap in audiences either I suppose. Profit-wise, it helps that the actors in Super 8 were dirt cheap. The budget was only $50m.

Hopefully it's not overestimated since this is not Nikki Finke from Deadline Hollywood reporting the numbers, but Gitesh from Box Office Guru, who is usually more accurate with numbers.

Well x-men cinemas are more packed here than super 8 as well.

If First Class makes $30 mil this weekend...

I will buy or rent this movie on Bluray, but I will not go to the movie theater to see this movie. The Marvel made movies will get my money in the movie theater. Not fox.

Your only hurting yourself here.

Super 8 looks good

Super 8 made less than X-Men or Thor On midnight screenings. If X-Men loses top slot but only does 1 or 2 million less than Super 8 that Is great.it would If It hits 30 Million
It beats the expections for second weekend. If the 9 or 10 Million for monday estemte holds we are up to 82 or 83 Million Domesticly. And if It hits 30 Million by Monday we
are up to 103 Million.

Nothing against Super 8, but here's hoping that XMFC beats it for the top spot, although that is very unlikely.

It's kinda sad that movies like Fast 5 (which imho was avg good) might end up doing twice as much at the BO than this quality film.

I hear you.

It's also said Transformers may make 300 Million Domesticly Inless more act like me and don't pay money after the piece of crap that was Revenge of the Fallen. You think
Last Stand and Wolverine were bad? They were good compared to that ****.

Yes, some of those movies offer the visuals with some silly characters and little substance. It makes me think that in the case of Transformers they appeal more to children which helps it to increase its BO.

Refined numbers at TOLDJA say First Class pulled in $7.5 million today and is looking at $23 million for the weekend and Super 8 is over-performing and looking to hit as high as $35 million.

LOL @ that Simpson snapshot. Let's have some faith and hope that this movie doesn't go down too quickly at the BO for the coming weeks. Hopefully good WOM could help it. For my part I will go see it tomorrow again.
