The Dark Knight The Oscar Push!

Once again, those of you that have followed this topic daily should know that I'm 100% pro Dark Knight and it was my favorite movie of the year...I'm just trying to be reasonable.

Well I think it is politics and they were eventually going to give him an oscar just didn't expect him to die so early.

In fact they gave him the Oscar as they many times do with talented people: to the right person for the wrong reasons.

Oh and people have no right to ***** about a winner unless you've seen ALL the movies in the category, not just TDK.

Most of the people in this thread give Bat-fans a bad name.

TDK was ignored as is mandatory by the Academy's tradition. Heath got the Oscar as a postumous homage to his tragic death (and brilliant career also I'd like to think).

The first part may be true, but giving out a posthumous acting award is, except for one other time, against the Academy's Tradition

Congrats to Heath Ledger for winning the well deserved oscar for bringing and leaving this world with another memorable character in history.

Seriously, I mean I LOVE TDK. However the film critic in me has to give it to Slumdog which definitly earned its Oscar. This fanaticism towards TDK reminds me of a militant group or something.

Sean Penn I am sorry didn't deserve it. It is politics though, I would believe that there is so much of who knows who when it comes to getting an oscar.
When CC says something, it's set in stone as if coming from God.
I will present DMG with my 15 (drops tablet)....ten! ten commandments for you to all obey!

I was surprised that Wally Pfister didn't win either. Slumdog Millionaire? I don't see what was so special about it.
...did you see it? It had GREAT cinematography. Practically every shot was beautiful to look at, especially the outside scenery.

Button really was supposed to win Best VFX, guys. The aging work that they did on Brad Pitt was astonishing. I mean, it isn't like last year, when Golden Compass won over Pirates. THAT was a down-and-out farce.
No, it winning over TRANSFORMERS was a farce. Pirates got it's recognition for Davey Jones already. TF should have gotten that for doing some amazing things with the metal textures and blending it all in some daylight action-packed shots.

Yeah, seriously. I don't have proof, but I have a gut feeling a lot in here hasn't even seen half of the nominees. And this being a batforum, mentioning intense bias isn't even necessary. But I'll mention it anyway. :o

Wow, I really liked TDK but I think Slumdog was a superior movie

This made me want to post up my Top 20 films of 2008 for some reason...just to give my input I guess:

All in all I was fairly pleased with the results of this year's Oscars. I had a few slip ups in my predictions (I was hoping "Hellboy II" would nab 'Best Make-Up') but it turned out.

The Bat-Fan in me got to see Heath's glory personified, and 'Slumdog' got it's obvious fair share. I would've liked to have seen 'Frost/Nixon' pick up something, but oh well.

you know... i just saw a post here and now i retract my statement.... bat-fans are dumb, they haven't seen any other film on the BP list, real bat-fans are ashamed of the ones here.

to quote Mr. Baldwin: you don't like it... leeeave....

this place use to be awesome.....

I missed the opening and I'm watching it on YouTube right now...nice shoutout to the TDK snub, Hugh. And the floating paper bats! :lmao:

But yikes, it looks more like the Tony's and less like the Oscars. But he sold it like a champ and I love him for it. :lmao:

Definitely, the way that they captured Mumbai was stunning.

Yes, I just called a "tradition" the first part. The second part was just obvious even when not a tradition. A tragic death was honoured, but with Heath alive, they would have snubbed a superhero movie with as little problem as they did with every good aspect of TDK (except for Heath).

No big surprises here.

yes, totally ignored....as one of the most nominated films of the year.

Wanted to challenge me huh?

but seriously I think TDK hit my personal enjoyment number 1 movie. The critic in me has to recognized Slumdog and abandon my Batman nerd and instead of going with my emotion, going with what I feel technically won in just being a better film.

Am I pissed that TDK didnt win all 8? no. I would have loved to see TDK be nominated for Best Picture just like everyone, I was bummed at first but I took a step back and was just amazed to see a comic book film be nominated for that many awards at the Oscars. I really do hate all of the politic crap that goes on with the Academys, Wally should have won back in '06 for Begins or tonight for TDK, his work is really that amazing, its so beautiful. I'm a huge movie fan as well, I know good cinematography when I see it and Wally's work just blows me away every time.

From which he got the obvious Ledger's homage and what else...? sound editing or some tiny little cathegory like that and nothing else. Way to go.

Also I LOVED Gran Torino but I thought that movie as a film was really weak. However seeing Clint Eastwood as a racist old man made me as happy as a school girl.

Kinda off topic, but how long does the re-release last?

Dark Knight did win the People's Choice Award for Best Picture. That should count for something, eh?

Benjamin Button only won techs. So...yeah. At least TDK got one for acting. :oldrazz:

LMAO Hugh's snark at The Reader during the opening number. :lmao:

Whether it won or not, TDK was recognized by the Academy. I believe this is the most a comic book film has ever received in nominations. And an acting Oscar for a comic book role is unheard of. That alone is a great win for the genre.

1 billion dollars in box office, and the second most nominated film of the Oscars. And there's STILL b***hing? Unbelievable. :down
