Ugh. No they haven't. When will you people get it. They have F4 for another seven years even if it flops. The only way marvel are getting them is if Fox opt to sell and Disney opts to buy

I know damn well how the rights work, thank you very much.

If we were to take what I said literally, it would still be true - if the movie sucks (as it most likely will) Fox will likely not bother trying again with the property - and either hand it back, or let it expire. So whether that's next year, 2016 or 2022, doesn't matter.

If the information coming out about the movie was generally positive, then the likelihood is more movies would be made, and so the rights would take longer to come back.

At no point did I say that the rights are going to come on home all nice and happy September 2015.

If fox Is the devil many you claim FF rights will just sit at Fox till 2022.Why would fox just hand disney anything. No studio would do that.Especilly with how much Marvel Is doing to hurt X-Men film franchise.

Of course after summer 2015 FF and X-Men may be erased from comics due to marvel being *****.

And Josh Trank deserves a lot of blame If FF is terrable and bombs. And we can safely say SImon Kinberg needs Bryan Singer around to make good film.

Yeah they won't hand them back before the next deadline there's no upside for them to do that

They did it with Daredevil! If this movie loses them hundreds of millions, then why not hand it back over. That said, I think they would end up selling it back to Marvel/Disney for pennies on the dollar before just giving it away, as Marvel/Disney would certainly pay something for the rights.

They had to relinquish daredevil as the deadline was reached.

They can give F4 back right away or wait until the deadline comes at 2022.

The former benefits a competitor more than the latter.

It's better business to hold them until the deadline

That's assuming the Marvel doesn't have things that Fox wants.

Marvel owns the merchandise rights to the X-Men. Fox selling the FF back for a hefty paycheck and an agreement for Marvel to produce merchandise (and possibly also an animated series) benefits Fox. Holding onto the FF for another seven years doesn't generate any revenue for Fox which is why Sony sold back Ghost Rider since they realized that they didn't know how to make a profit with it.

It looks like the current FF film is going to bomb. That hurts Fox since it hogs a release date that they could use for something profitable and it huts the company's bottom line and brand image. Why hold on to an asset that costs you money when you could release anything else and manage to turn a profit?

Why does it matter if another company makes more money than you do? Disney is already more profitable than Fox anyway thanks to Disney owning themeparks, having a Disney store, etc. FF turning a profit won't significantly hurt Fox's ability to turn a profit when Marvel already owns a ton of marketable IPs already.

Tell that to Sony and Ghost Rider, or Lionsgate and Punisher. If you're going to bash people for wanting something you think won't happen, at least acknowledge when it has happened.

It make no business sense to give Marvel anything when Marvel is doing all possable to hurt Fox's ability to promate X-Men.

Daredevil reverted when the 7 year dealine was reached.

Marvel Is unlikely to offer Fox anything for FF.Why do that? The business model for best says it will sit on self till 2022 and then who knows how long till Marvel will do anything with it.

If FF reboot is disaster let's say I doudt FOx will have Simon Kinberg out talking about X-Men films anymore. And let's see if Josh Trank actully does a Star Wars Spin-off If FF IS disaster

And it's not like they have any slots left between now and close to the time the deadline is.

Marvel wouldn't have any rush to get them back as they'd not be able to make a movie until around 2020. So they'd trade merch rights for F4 which would sit collecting dust until then whereas they can let fox hold it for that period while they keep merch rights.

Technically both are just holding something and not using them.

If they traded, Fox would use the merch rights but marvel wouldn't use F4 so from a business perspective Marvel would find it better to wait for the deadline and get them for nothing rather than trading and benefiting Fox but not themselves

I'd much prefer they traded the F4 for X-Men merch rights

Marvel Isn't going to offer Fox squat for FF.They have X-Men merchandize rights but considering all Marvel is doing to hurt X-Men why give Fox squat. The summer 2015 event could be end of X-Men In Comics. Why would Fox give Marvel something for nothing.

If FF Is disaster Fox will sit on rights till 2022 and they for nothing will revert back to marvel. And who knows when they will do anything with it.

If Josh Trank take Is disaster let's just say I don't think he will be doing much at fox again

How is Marvel 'hurting' X-Men? Its their property, they can do anything they want with it except make live-action movies, and they're choosing to devote their resources to marketing and promoting their core brands, Avengers, Spidey, GotG, etc. instead of the one they can't make films from. Seems like perfectly reasonable business sense to me.

That being said, at this point right now, they don't need Fantastic Four back, they're doing much better without them than Fox is doing with them. I'm positive that we won't see anything Fantastic Four related after this movie is released next year

Another one justifying marvel hurting X-Men:whatever:

I guess you all will be just fine if the summer 2015 event erases X-Men from comics.

When X-Men get cancled for not being a core marvel brand you have already proven my point.

Um, why? First Class and DoFP were perfectly cromulent movies.

I haven't read X-Men in a while but I thought Bendis has been creating a lot of new mutant characters no?

Its not about justification. Disney owns the IP so if Disney wanted to stop print, merchandising or anything in their power they can. Just like Fox can do what ever they want with the film licenses they hold obviously.

Marvel is no more justified to cancel comics books then Fox is from not letting the rights revert. Its two sides not willing to budge and its their business

All I know is that Marvel at this time are making better Marvel movies then Fox and profiting more BO, Merchandising, etc.. So. Both sides are justified. Its just Marvel is making more profit with or without the X-Men and FF

Guys, this is the positive thread. Leave the positive people in peace.

I'll be even happier when someone erases them from the movies.
