I don't know, at this point is just speculation, but after watching the trailer,
something made me think that Rachel can really get killed in TDK.

I mean, it would be a good reason for Bruce to be crying in this scene:

I heard rumors of Rachel getting killed off, but I didn't believe them. When she did die, man, it was tough to watch. What a heavy movie.

I was saddened by Rachel's demise even though I knew it was coming. Really makes you feel for Bruce, as well. First, his parents. Now, Rachel - someone he loved since childhood.
Damn! It sucks to be Batman..

they're Asst. D.A's, they dont need ot be a sexy bombshell. Maggie was perfect for the role. I really liked her as Rachel, i was sad to see her get killed off. And i found maggie quite attractive in the movie.

Dude, I think you might need glasses. She looked like a sea donkey during most of the film.

I think Maggie would do great in a live action Droopy the Dog movie.

I actually loved her on the movie. She looks...normal, and I think it's a nice contrast to show how "real" she is. Bruce can have all the supermodels he wants, but he's after a normal looking girl with a brain.

And finally Rachel seemed a strong woman. Maggie gave her a strong presence and made me believe she could work as an assistant DA. She seemed courageous, intelligent, and I felt a lot when she died. I'm sure if it was Katie playing her, I would have thought "good ridance" and that's not good for a movie. She was lovely and sold the character.

Paparazzi Sink To New Low With Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal had an early taste of what it's like to be a celebrity new mom when members of the paparazzi reported a fake fire at the actress' apartment block - just so she'd come out into the street with her baby.

The Secretary star still can't believe the lengths some people will go to just to get a photograph, but the early morning fire alarm was the lowest blow for her.

She says, "The paparazzi were just really awful to us. I mean, they called the fire department and told them there was a fire in our little, tiny building in the West Village (New York) so that we would have to come outside with a five-day-old baby."

The bogus fire alert almost led Gyllenhaal to turn down the role of Rachel Dawes in the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight.

She tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "I was trying to navigate my way through that (media intrusion) when this offer came. I thought, 'It's going to push that stuff further probably.' But what am I going to do? I'm going to hide and not do things that are appealing to me? I'm an actress."

Isn't that kind of stuff illegal?

I know. I'd heard the rumors as well, but for the most part I was spoiler free, so when getting pushed out the window didn't kill her, I figured she was safe. Man, was I wrong. The whole sequence with her and Harvey had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, and my heart just sank when I realized Joker has switched the addresses.

I dont know whats with the insane hate on Katie Cruise. She didnt bother me THAT much in BB. Maggie was decent. But i didnt really feel all that sympathetic when she died.

Nah. Animals (with exception to humans) don't really have the ability to think or reason; they just react.

I'm sure you try though :cwink:

WTF?

So you're calling me an animal? An animal that can't think or reason? Ummmmmm, what does that have to do with what Maggie looks like?

If you like your women to look like old sea hags then that's fine, but don't ask me to get on that boat with you.

WTF?
don't ask me to get on that boat with you.

Don't worry. No pets allowed.

By the by, both Maggie and Katie are attractive enough. Katie's acting chops are lacking, however and that is likely why she was not asked to return. Merely speculation on my part, of course. :word:

You're weird.

Maggie Gylenhaal as Rachel Dawes, is on my list of the things i liked more from TDK

I agree with a majority of the posters in this thread.

Even though I heard about her death, the way she tried to act stoic (like a member here said) really added some emotional depth to her performance.

I felt really heavy after I saw her about to close her eyes, and everything just blows up around her.

Does anybody know verbatim what Rachel Dawes wrote in her note to Bruce Wayne? Bottom-line: I'm marrying Harvey

i wish she hadnt died...but i s'pose that sets up a storyline for another love intrest

agreed.

Maggie's Rachel Dawes is completely believable as the Asst DA. she's sexy, she tough and she's nobody's fool, yet she's sweet and caring to both men in her life. i'm really wishing that they hired Maggie since the start of BB, you wouldnt even have to hear her say that she's the Asst DA, you'll believe that she's a person with authority without even having to open her mouth.

some of you are complaining about chemistry between Bale and Maggie G, well to me its the same level of chemistry between Bale and Holmes-- there was something there but not a whole lot. so even if the change in actresses didnt improve the chemistry between Bruce and Rachel, at least there was an improvement for the character of Dawes and the importance that we empathize with her, and with the men at the time of her death.

You are so right. Maggie isn't a conventional beauty, but she owns the role and she looke beautiful in the film. I dont think Katie Cruise could have brought the kind of emotional attachment and such a response to Rachel's death as Maggie did. KC just doesn't have those kind of acting chops.

I'm happy Rachel is dead. I hope this means we can see Talia or Catwoman in a third movie.
