What happens to Rachel in the film?

It was one of those rare moments in BB where I actually thought, "Seriously, Nolan?" Here's how I translate the dialogue:

Rachel: "Officer, I am an unarmed Gotham City District Attorney. Let me pass into The Narrows, currently under seige by a large group of escaped convicts, and being locked down by the police department. My business is my own."

Officer: "Okay, Ms. District Attorney. You have provided me with no credentials, and really don't have any clearance or purpose in being here, but whatever. Go right on ahead. Watch out for the cut-throats and rapists."

Rachel: "Officer, I'm Katie Holmes, let me into the murderers please."

Officer: "Right this way m'am."

Yes. But that was telegraphed in BB. As long as she's alive there's hope that Wayne can lead a normal life. With her gone, he has no chance of hanging up the cape and cowl.

Not everyone agrees on Maggie. Katie had that ideal girl next door innocent sweet presence.

She had this constant smirk that bordered on a facial deformity.
Was she really smiling when she told Bruce "Your parents would be ashamed of you"? Absolutely bizzare and inappropriate.
Maggie Gylenhaal actually seems like a real actress. The notion of physical attractiveness is irrelevant as it is not something vital to the character.

so is it confirmed that Rachel's death is a result of the Jokers whole "two different warehouses" scheme? And if so how does that work on screen? Has he got two monitors to show Bats each one? Is Mr. J with one of them? are they tied up or is it just one of them "locked door" deals? How does the Joker tell Batman anyway? Just calling him on the phone? Come one, Im got another week longer to wait than you yanks-I need to know these things now!!

Maggie Gylenhaal actually seems like a real actress. The notion of physical attractiveness is irrelevant as it is not something vital to the character.

Maggie Gylenhaal has the benefit of being believeable as an adult. Something Holmes won't have until she's in her mid-thirties. She just looks and sounds way to young, and it's a pain 'cause they put her in these roles where she's supposed to be an a somewhat authoritative position. Compare her to any of the actresses who have played ADA's on Law and Order, for example. Come to think of it, Angie Harmon would have been a pretty good Rachel.

But I do agree, Katie Holmes always had this disturbing facial expression where she's talking about something terrible, and it looks like she's smiling. It was rather unsettling.

You're not the only person. I thought she was good in Batman Begins. No, she didn't have the best chemistry with Bale, but she was great in her scenes with ther Scarecrow.

I liked Katie in BB, too. So, I'm kind of disappointed she's not in TDK.

But, I'll give Maggie a chance....

that's what I heard in an interview of Gyllenhaal.....awesome and shocking scene IMO !!! Maggie better be great !
