Id hit it

Now that is a cool picture of the three. It is a shame the WB does not share those promo shots with us

Except for the moments before her death (which I thought was superbly acted by the actress), I thought Maggie did a poorer job that Katie Holmes in BB.

Maybe it was the way her character was written, but she was just whining about everything and her voice just go annoying. Her lines seemed very forced and she was about the only character in the whole movie who didn't "feel real".

But, like I said, the moment before her death when she hears Batman enter Dent's warehouse and you can see the fear and terror in her face, though she tries to hide it...remarkable.

Because of Holmes' character in Begins, my emotional attachment wasn't there with Maggie, although she's a better actress. I wish Katie was in TDK. She had enough time to improve her skills.

The first time we see her tied up in the dark room full of gasoline with that music playing, hit me like a ton of bricks.

Agreed. I thought Maggie would be better, but it didn't turn out that way.

I don't think she had enough to do in this movie. She had two really tough scenes, one with Alfred talking about Bruce and the other at the end before she dies. She was great in them, but otherwise Holmes could've handled it and for continuity's sake I wish it was her. The character dying and the way she did was shocking and tragic but if it had been the same face for two movies it would have been stronger. Oh well.

How?
She had this constant smirk that bordered on a facial deformity.
Was she really smiling when she told Bruce "Your parents would be ashamed of you"? Absolutely bizzare and inappropriate.
Maggie Gylenhaal actually seems like a real actress. The notion of physical attractiveness is irrelevant as it is not something vital to the character.

You sound like my sister, about the constant smirk Katie Holmes seems to have. Now, I can't help but notice it whenever I see her in a movie.

It was entirely opposite for me.

P.S. I meant to say though I'm glad the character was back and was really sad to see her go. I wish she had more screentime and to do that took full advantage of the acting upgrade. If the part was the same as it is now I wonder why Holmes didn't come back.

I thought Katie was a better rachel.

Plus, Bruce wayne, harvey Dent and The Joker apparently all think shes really beautiful. I'm sorry, but I dont buy that from Maggie. I can believe that every guy in a room would want Katie Holmes, however. Besides physical appearance though, I wasnt particularly fond of maggies portrayal.

Either way, I was happy to see how she ended up by the end of the movie.

I really started liking Maggie during TDK and was really sad to see her go.

The first time I saw it (Tuesday) I didn't care that she went boom. Tonight, for some reason, it really hit me.
Don't know why!

I also hate to admit that Katie's attractiveness added to the relationship between Bruce and Rachel.

This coming from a Maggie fan.

I respectfully disagree. I felt Maggie had great chemistry with both Christian and Aaron.

Thank you.

I still think Katie Holmes was the better Rachel...

So do I.

Katie Holmes deserved to die in Begins, Maggie didn't. :csad:

Yes, Maggie did. :woot:

This is the point I was trying to make months ago, just because someone is a better actor doesnt mean they'll have better chemistry. Its the same situation with Dunst, although she's far removed from resembling anything close to Mary Jane in my eyes, she comes across like she really has feelings for Tobey, a better actress might not convey that. Ditto for Liv Tyler, who while a much weaker actress than Jen Connelly, had much better chemistry with Norton than Bana had in the previous Hulk film. Thats what it really comes down to with these damsel in distress roles, not acting chops

I simply wish one or the other did both. I think Maggie is the better actress, but seeing someone else played the character cheapened her death. I also think Holmes while the weak link of BB wasn't as bad as some say and Rachel had a lot less to do in TDK than she did in BB and could've handled it. Oh well.

I'd hardly call Rachel Dawes a "damsel in distress". Regardless, for chemistry to be believable, one needs to be able to act. Chemistry and talent play off of each other.

 You really believe that?

Katie Holmes was ultimately completely forgettable in Begins - Not to mention at no time did I really buy her as an assistant D.A. in anyway shape and form.

Maggie brought a lot of depth to the character - Massive upgrade from Katie 'I look 17 yrs old' Holmes.

agreed.

Maggie's Rachel Dawes is completely believable as the Asst DA. she's sexy, she tough and she's nobody's fool, yet she's sweet and caring to both men in her life. i'm really wishing that they hired Maggie since the start of BB, you wouldnt even have to hear her say that she's the Asst DA, you'll believe that she's a person with authority without even having to open her mouth.

some of you are complaining about chemistry between Bale and Maggie G, well to me its the same level of chemistry between Bale and Holmes-- there was something there but not a whole lot. so even if the change in actresses didnt improve the chemistry between Bruce and Rachel, at least there was an improvement for the character of Dawes and the importance that we empathize with her, and with the men at the time of her death.
