The Rank and Rate Man of Steel thread

After a second watching I give it a solid nine. Something about watching Superman on the big screen is something special.

I know my rankings are probably completely different from everyone else, but here goes:
1. The Dark Knight - Transcended genre and completely changed the limits of what a CBM can and cannot be.
2. Batman Begins - Super solid origin story. Not a huge fan of the 3rd act, but the first 2/3rds of the movie are amazing to me.
3. Man of Steel - Its not without its flaws, but the scope, scale, ambition and visual flare is incredible. Extremely excited for the sequel.
4. The Dark Knight Rises
5. Thor

This isn't necessarily the forum but what did you like about Thor?

Good movie, aside from Thor's rather rushed transition from cocky prince to likable hero.

I agree with your broad assessment and add to that the unbelievable love story. I guess I don't quite understand all the critical praise for it -- it was just fine.

I can't be bothered to write a review but I give this movie a 9.2/10.

entertaining summer movie. i will watch it again. WB will get 3 tickets from me.

I'll be seeing it again tomorrow morning/afternoon at 11am. 3rd viewing.

Film is a 9.2/10 for me. It gets better each time I watch it.

...why are so many people giving it a 9.2?

Saw the film for the second time today. And it's soo much better the 2nd time. Critics say Pa Kent comes off as a *****e for telling Clark to keep his powers a secret but he gave a lot of great advice about choice. Advising Clark that he owes it to himself to go out and find out where he comes from, and tells him good character or bad, he's going to change the world.

I really enjoyed the film. It is to me the best Superman film. The characters are more complex with great motives. Awesome film.

Will be going for a 6th viewing tomorrow and may be taking both my mother and father sometime next week as well.

Well when all is said and done, you can certainly hold your head high knowing that you did your part for the BO :cwink:

I loved Thor. Enjoyed it more than MOS and Batman Begins. I didn't even think his transition was rushed. At least I didn't notice it being jarring or anything. And I think the Thor/Jane relationship flowed much more naturally than Superman/Lois in MOS. I did enjoy MOS, but noticed too many flaws/annoying/fury inducing moments.

lol. by 2nd viewing, i thought it was more than just entertaining.
almost nothing special or deep about MOS. its a hard blockbuster summer action movie that is so straightforward and cliche that a black hole was created in june. but its what superman needed. i will get something deep and something special in the sequel. and ohhhh boy is the sequel happening. :woot:

well, to the GA, it could be just an entertaining film. but to the fans, it is "THE FILM"!!! :D
wanna watch the sequel by Christmas!!! lol

i am happy for the hardcore fans. i am happy when a fan gets their dream movie. it was a long journey for superman and the fans.

well whats considered deep some fans still think inception is deep and they feel smart for getting it:lmao:

South Park did a nice episode on Inception.

It's one of my favorite movies, but that has jack to do with it being complex (it does lay on the complexity pretty thickly, but I managed).

So, I didn't really know what to expect in this film. I've never seen a Superman movie or read a Superman comic book. Familiar with the gist of the character (sent here from krypton, has every super power ever, weak to green space rock :)) but anyways I'll post my review or reactions I suppose

Overall I enjoyed the film, I'd give it like a 7.5/10 (rounded to 8 for the poll) The action was a bit too fast for me but I assume that was the point in showing his and the others powers, I also thought the fight scenes got a bit stale and repetitive. I didn't understand how Jor-El was present throughout the entire movie and understanding/reacting to things currently going on but also dead. The final thing I didn't really like was Zod, I felt like there was nothing special about the character, he never once made me feel intimidated or that he was the higher power where as villains in past comicbook/scifi movies like Bane/Killian/Khan gave me the feelings that they could possibly defeat the hero.

I loved Cavill in the role, as well as the girl who played Lois. I thought as an origin story that can tend to bore me it was well done and I enjoyed it throughout. I'm excited to see what the future holds for the Man of Steel franchise and the possible future DC inspired films.
