The Reboot Joker

Good is indeed good either way you cut it. My point is what we just had was great. Comparatively speaking, following it up with 'good' is moving backwards.

I thought Ledger was great but I also thought Nicholson was great. And I think Willem DaFoe would still be great.

The only one I think is perfect is Mark Hamill and he's just a voice.

Expecting EVERY film to have a breakout, once in a lifetime performance in it is worse than going "backwards". It's the epitome of having your expectations raised too high every time and therefore never being able to enjoy the vast majority of the product you are going to come across in this genre.

Exactly. Like it or not, SOMEONE WILL play the Joker again. My only hope is they don't try to imitate Heath Ledger.

Not what I said at all. I simply expect another great performance and I don't think Dafoe has it in him to provide that. He's a good actor in general and was a good Green Goblin. But going to the Joker after visiting that sort of character already is not going to do him any favors.

Maybe I'm wrong and he would be the quintessential Joker of our dreams. I just have my doubts.

This is what you said brothaman. Nothing about Dafoe.

Yeah i want defoe he would do better then probly almost any one and no matter want ledger did such a amazing job that it is just about a carenty that the next one will not be has good. Ledger did some of the most amazing best acting i have ever sences before!

If you follow the discussion, he is who I'm referring to. In general terms I'm still expecting a performance at least on par with what Ledger has given. Maybe not as left-field because of the actor's reputation or established filmography, but a great performance nonetheless.

I don't see how you could interpret that as having impossible expectation, unless you perceive Ledger's turn as that unlikely to be matched. Which I don't.

Ledger was excellent, but I think some of the reason people tend to think the performance was so astonishing is that The Joker is an astonishing character and a gift of a role. An actor can cut loose and really go anywhere with it.

It may not be reasonable to expect a performance as memorable as Ledger's next time, but we should certainly get an interesting one.

I was following the discussion. I did know it was Re: Dafoe. And I also know that what you posted came down to "Good is not enough. It has to be great or it's a step backwards." And what I posted stands. Expecting GREAT every time out of the gate is the formula for being disappointed more often than pleased.

The part in the intrearigating room was just crazy good acting got chills the first time I saw it and that is one of my favorite sences In the trilogy and normal a lot of my favorite sences are more fighting sences. Yes an actor can cut loose but still he did a amazing job and I would like to see defoe because look how good he did has goblin and joker and goblin are kind of the same crazy.

Romero was great. Nicholson was great. Ledger was great. I can't think of any other fictional character who has transitioned between as many actors and eras, and still has consistently captivated audiences at a mainstream level.

When said time out the gate has averaged to a live-action appearance every 13 years, each time wow'ing audiences into a frenzy, it's beyond me why anyone would actively lower their expectation in fear of disappointing themselves. It's settling just to settle, in spite of history advising otherwise.

I trust the creative people behind the next Joker know the incredible legacy they're following and will attack it appropriately. That alone excites me.

If they go with an older Joker Willem Dafoe is ahead of anyone for the role.
Here, let these Dafoe as Joker manips quench your doubts.

I like Dafoe, but he's just such an easy choice.

Yeah, I agree. I'm so tired of seeing Dafoe play villains. I actually think he's more interesting when he plays good characters (Platoon, Boondock Saints, Out of the Furnace). Also, I consider his performance in Spider-Man to be one of his worst performance ever, and I'd be afraid he'd play the Joker similar to that.

Im aboard the Dafoe train if they go with an older Joker, which they probably wont. Im open to a younger Joker though.

you could be onto something here... haley tried out for a role in bvs apparently

I heard about that, still no word on how those discussions actually went. It was just that he went in and then thats it. No "yes", no "no"...so who knows

For Lex, wasn't it?

I'm guessing your referring to Haley to which no one knows what he went in for. Some speculated that it would be for Lex but no one knows for sure (outside of the production crew that is lol)

I like this guy as an actor a lot. He was the best part of Watchmen, the only good part of Nightmare on elm street reboot and a good addition to Robocop (though underused).

He can really take on any character he's given, so why not the joker? Only one problem is that he's pretty short, and the Joker is pretty lean and tall.
