The Reboot Joker

I like this guy as an actor a lot. He was the best part of Watchmen, the only good part of Nightmare on elm street reboot and a good addition to Robocop (though underused).

He can really take on any character he's given, so why not the joker? Only one problem is that he's pretty short, and the Joker is pretty lean and tall.

Not really a problem....last time I looked Lex was a slim tall guy around the same age as Bruce Wayne, not a short really skinny looking kid who's the same age as Clark Kent

^ Well then maybe we could have a slightly taller Jackie Earl Haley Joker enhanced by camera tricks, and looking slightly older to match Batflecks age. That would be cool.

Haley is older than Affleck....by 10 years I think

*did a quick look up, meh close enough...9 years lol, Haley is 52, Affleck is 41

But yeah they made Tom Hardy look huge in The Dark Knight Rises when really he's shorter than Christian Bale. So they could make Haley look taller.

That's exactly Birthright Lex.

Yeah and we already had something in live action that was slightly similar to that already.....its called Smallville and while I am a fan of it, pretty much everyone else has made it clear that they want nothing related to that show happening in the future....Lex and Clark being the same age (the only thing thats similar to Birthright) being one of them.

I think what they mean by "not being similar to Smallville" is "not stupid," and not "not using any general ideas and details Smallville may have touched upon at some point in their 10 full seasons of hour-long episodes." Because then there'd be pretty much nothing to do.

I'm pretty sure that included the type of relationship Lex and Clark had. I remember so many ppl saying how it was insane to have them grow up together (and they did in Birthright too). Then as an adult not know that Clark is Superman. I mean yeah fine he lost his memory but come on....there are bloody photographs of them together. Wedding pix (2 of Lex's weddings for that matter) where he's right there in plain sight without glasses and everything yet Lex couldn't figure it out.

anyway enough of that, we're going off topic here lol

I WILL say this: it's like the comic was looking into a reality mirror. :wow:

Mads would be my first suggestion: so many talented and capable actors who would be perfect for Joker, but I'm trying to think like Snyder. He's always wanted to be in control of some adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, given a couple of years back during a panel at the San Diego Comic Con. He's extremely talented and he has now become recognized in North America for his breakout role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

There might be some similarities between the two, but for me... I think this would be a splendid Joker choice FULL of reinvention or getting something that resonates in us all for a traditional Joker.

They're not going to touch the Joker for a long time after Heath's performance.

Hell we've only gotten three [live action] Jokers, and each one was twenty years apart.

I disagree. i think we'll be seeing him soon in this new DCCU

I find it shocking that people who call themselves Batman fans seemingly suggest that WB shouldn't use The Joker in a future Batman movie again because of Heath Ledger. As if the Joker didn't exist before Ledger was born. Heath Ledger was an actor who played a character that existed for a long time, I reject the idea that the live action version of the character should die with him.

Couldn't have said it better myself ^

I'm tired of seeing that mentality on these boards. There doesn't need to be 20 years between live action Jokers. SMH

We're getting a new Batman. We'd better get a new Joker too, it's only right. The DCCU wouldn't feel complete without Joker

Joker of course needs to be in the DCCU, that just goes without saying really. In my mind he is one of the greatest fictional villains ever and before Heath Ledger has been played well by Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamill. Why on earth wouldn't I want more?

I wouldn't reject Joker for that reason. I just think there are other interesting villains we haven't seen live action that would be a good change for first couple of Batman appearances/films.

Of course we want more. The Joker is possibly the best fictional villain EVER, not just in comics. But "wanting more" and "needing more right away" are two different things. I want to see the Joker again, but I don't need it right now and wouldn't mind waiting a few more years.

What excites me about the next version of the Joker we'll see is that he and Batman will most likely already have an established history, like in the Arkham games. It won't be the first meeting between Batman and the Joker, as we've seen in both of the Joker's previous live action interpretations. With Affleck's Batman being older and more seasoned, he'll have already faced the Joker several times I'm sure, and the "arch-enemy" relationship between them will already be solidified. Man, it's going to be awesome when the time comes.

There are some villains that are staples of the Superman/Batman world and deserve multiple film appearances. Lex Luthor can always be featured in some capacity and I won't complain. The Joker is the most known Batman villain and most popular. Different interpretations can keep these characters fresh enough without overdoing exposure imo. :o

I'm saying that Joker should not be retired from live action films because Heath Ledger died. I'm not saying I want him in BvS or JL.

I want to see other Batman villains first but that doesn't mean I never want to see the Joker again.

Eight years will have passed between TDK's and BvS's releases. Eight long, Jokerless years. I'm sure that people will feel ready to see him again by then.

Good point. It's so weird. It doesn't seem like TDK was that long ago, i remember going through those virals like it was yesterday. The viral marketing on that movie was insane.... nothing has even come close since

This was easily one of my favorite pictures of Joker, i remember first seeing it in Wizard magazine, but i don't think that shot made it into the movie.

If Batfleck gets his own film series, I hope the focus is on the classic rogues gallery (Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin, Mr. Freeze).. I'd love to see a supernatural Ra's and a more extreme Scarecrow as well. Clayface is at the top of my list of villains that I want to see who haven't been in a film before.

and if we only get one Batfleck movie, Joker has to be the villain. I'd love an adaptation of the Arkham Asylum graphic novel combined with the Arkham Asylum video game. An Arkham takeover film has so much potential to be the ultimate Batman movie. You can cram in as many cameos as you want, and its not hokey, it works well within the context of the story. And since Batfleck is an established Batman, you don't need to waste time explaining the backstory of every villain. In an Arkham takeover film, there could be multiple villains without the story seeming crammed. If Batfleck only does one film, an Arkham film is the way to go.
