The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 1

I think they'd be better off as supporting characters in other MCU movies. Now that Feige and the films don't answer to Marvel Entertainment, there is likely going to be more separation between the films and movies. And given the FF and their related characters have an otherworldly presence, they'd fit better in the more cosmic films sphere, than the more grounded tv sphere. A netflix show would also fail to realize all of the elements that come with the property. Galactus in GOTG, Doom in Avengers, Johnny in an Inhumans or Spiderman movie, all these things can serve to help the MCU without the need of a FF movie, atleast until their reputation can be built back up. It will take alot of time and effort for the franchise to reach new heights, but Marvel has the means to.

A while back I proposed the idea of a 60s era CGI FF series set within the MCU continuity. Similarly to how Lucasfilm is handling Star Wars: Rebels. Start with a mystery - What happened to the world's first superhero team? And show their adventures in the 1960s, rubbing elbows with Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Peggy Carter and Howard Stark.

The FF villains are timeless and can be used immediately in the modern MCU - including elderly tyrant Victor Von Doom, kept alive through mysticism and the advanced technology in his armor.

After a few years, have the team time jump into modern times for a live action film.

Damn. I was going to post this before the thread manager locked it:

My bad.

Am I the MVP or does that go to slick Willie Lumpkin?

Well I don't think I deserve anything considering I don't even have a clue what's going on.:o

Is that award a real thing or just a cool graphic Dark Raven made?

Probably just a cool graphic. She's such a tease! :argh:

So am I the MVP or what?

All jokes aside, the movie bombed which is a moral victory that I'm sure we are all happy with because it shows Fox that fan's opinion does matter and they should treat the material with care. I think we are all the MVP's here as we got the word out early(Fox didn't exactly help their cause)and here's hoping that Feige can work some of his magic and get this thing back at MS.

A mod won. What a coincidence. :whatever:

I really am kidding.

What do you mean a mod won? There were various awards if you check the thread. Some were for mods of the year, so yes, a mod won in that case.

I was kidding. I just couldn't resist a joke..........even the unfunny ones. :csad:

The suggestions of a netflix series are understandable...given the thrashing that the FF brand has taken due to FOX's incompetence...but completely wrong for FF. It's too big a property to be done any real justice on that kind of budget. It would likely end up being competent and faithful, but underwhelming on scale and action. And I think the idea of using them only as cameo characters in other movies doesn't suit them either. IF Marvel were to get the rights back, the SMARTEST move they could make with a reboot would be to make the fact that this is MARVEL'S FF (distinct from both previous versions) a big part of the marketing/hype machine. Another issue is that there might be a tendency now to want to skip over an origin after so many reboots, BUT a new origin can help with differentiating the new version from the old. So how to set up a new compelling version of the characters and maintain some sense of scale, while avoiding dumping hundreds of millions into a movie that might fail? Simple. DISNEY OWNS ABC. Develop a FOUR-night TV mini-series event: Marvel's Fantastic Four. That gives them more runtime so that they can include a new origin (even if its a somewhat "glossed-over" origin, ala TIH) with interesting ties to established MCU lore without sacrificing time for the action and plot. And they get 2 movies worth of runtime likely for a little less than they'd spend on one actual bigscreen movie. The key would be convincing the general public that MARVEL'S version will finally get it right, and that its a BIG TV EVENT worth watching.

If marvel do get the FF back I think the best option after being so tainted is to seed the idea of Marvel's FF into another movie first. Introduce Reed as the guy working independently on an FTL ship* for example, much to Stark's annoyance as he isn't smart enough to work that one out.

*I say FTL ship as that would fit well into the MCU continuity: Earth now knows of alien threats, but are on defence all the time. The Asgardians aint sharing their particular shortcut so Earth's best and brightest have to come up with the means to enable Earth to take a fight to the enemy should they have to.

However, although those in the know (Stark for example) are aware Reed's independent venture is the closest thing to getting there, he isn't interested in using it for anything more than exploration and is refusing to share his findings. Have that set up in a prior movie and they'd be good to go with an FF movie, spaceship origin and all.

This would require some careful planning though, in particular the casting of Reed who should appear in that prior movie. I'd go with a respected known name for that task, mature, but not so old that they cannot hold the role easily for another 10 years or so.

I would like the basics to have them as '60s lost superheroes-celebrities-explorers who come back to Earth after decades of disappearance.

My primary goal is to see something great featuring the FF one day, but I would be perfectly content if Marvel got the rights and sat on them for a while.

I'll just be happy to know the rights are no longer in the hands of Fox - who showed levels of ineptitude on this last film that surpassed even my worst fears.

Like many others, I'm not really a fan of a Netflix FF because I think they need to be bigger than that. Netflix is great for Daredevil and Luke Cage, but a proper FF film should have a scale and scope beyond anything we've seen - even in things like Guardians of the Galaxy.

I would rather a huge FF film in 2025 than a Netflix series in 2018.

Now we just need to hope upon hope that Marvel can get the rights. This latest Feige news is very encouraging to me, but I won't be able to relax and look forward to the future until we have an official announcement that the rights are home and out of Fox's grossly incapable hands.

The only issues with that is the disappeared for decades and 'out of their time' return thing is Captain America's deal, and the 'lost in space' thing is basically Star Lord.

This. All of it.

I think you need to wait five years, minimum, before even thinking of doing anything with the FF as the primary focus. What I am hoping is that they can be moved back to Marvel in time for the next Avengers movies when they battle Thanos. That would be good and also more for the supporting characters that come with the FF.

Yeah I know,it's known territory, but how can they introduce those characters without repeating the origin story? I'd like to see the F4 as established heroes with the right age,not the Young people crap Fox gave us.

This might be kind of a weird coincidence, but during the original Infinity Gauntlet series, the FF were not involved as all 4 were wiped out when Thanos killed half the universe. And now we're having Infinity War movies with no FF!

I don't think the Fantastic 4 are as tainted as everyone thinks they are. But, apparently, maybe that's just me.
