The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - Part 12

I have a feeling Marvel is building toward something on the comic end. We saw the Kirby tribute with heavy FF content at D23, and I saw this pop up a few days ago: https://news.marvel.com/comics/70737/kirby-100-manthis-monster/. Most of the people at Marvel aren't as childish as Perlmutter.

If Marvel really wanted to kill FF, they'd bury them with a third-rate writer and let them whither, but I think their absence is actually building interest. I think the people who matter at Marvel understand the importance of the FF, and I have a feeling when they come back, they'll come back in a big way.

It's probably a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder. Hopefully not the other platitude: out of sight, out of mind. Although Marvel probably do want that slightly as far as the movies go so that audiences forget those other movies.

But if Fox keeps trying something that will erode and depreciate the brand even further. Yet Fox don't have the luxury of allowing it to remain dormant until that absence makes the heart grow fonder because of the issue of reversion.

This is where, even if they hold on to the rights for just a little bit longer with a Doom film, they're still stuck.

Fox is completely incapable of and/or uninterested in making the kind of epic, soaring, visually spectacular film that would be a proper FF film.

Okay, they're retreating to something maybe they can do: A dark, dreary, depressing, cheap Doom film.

But that leaves them still completely incapable of following up with an FF Film as they ever were.

A Doom film would seem to be a bridge to nowhere.

It's like everyone else (the fans, Marvel, the general audience) are like Arnie shouting to Fox and the FFINO defenders "the bridge is out" and they're saying "I can't hear you". But finally Fox and the defenders might one day turn around like Jamie Lee Curtis and scream in realisation "the bridge is out!".

Unfortunately, the car they're riding in is the FF. :csad:

@ Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige - we have had 12 threads discussing mostly the Fantastic Four. THE HUNGER IS REAL!

So do we know that their Doom movie will be their last hurrah with the FF rights? I'm hoping that they need to make a proper FF film in order to maintain ownership of said rights. We have less than 5 years remaining...but really less than 3 since it was mentioned by Willie that it usually takes 2 years from announcement to release. Countdown to 2020!

Actually we're on part 22 (or probably really 24 because the original doesn't get numbered and the next one starts with 1). The original got discontinued prior to the release of Fant4stic because a small number of Fox sycophants complained that we were being too 'negative'.

The original started in 2013, shortly after Josh Trank was announced as director - and that's a point people should keep in mind when they throw up their hands and say: "There's no hope. Noah Hawley announced he's working on Dr. Doom."

It was far more certain at the time the first thread was started that Fox was making a film than it is now. But that was the whole point. At the time things seemed darkest, we didn't give up hope.

And if Fox does make a Doom film... and something after that... and something after that, I'm nearly certain this thread will endure until the rights are back with somebody who actually likes the FF and doesn't just see them as something to squeeze until no more pennies are coming out.

Willie you are a hero

Agreed. When the dust settles and the First Family return to Marvel Studios, I believe of all the fans, Willie Lumpkin kept Hope alive and kept our hopes alive that it would happen!

Now I must read ALL the Kirby FF issues.

Guys, what if Universal decides to play ball with Hulk and She-Hulk and the Doctor Doom movie is actually good?

And maybe my pet unicorn that farts rainbows will take me to work tomorrow. :o

Yeah, your lazy ass pet unicorn would probably just laugh at you until you left the room if you asked him. Roy, your unicorn, is such an *****ebag. :o

Except

1. Sony just made money on the new Spider-Man film. It was produced for less cost so even though it grossed less than other Spider-Man films, it still was more profitable and turned the franchise around after three critical failures. It grossed enough that Sony are now doing spin-offs. Universal would benefit from a Hulk sequel provided that they can make Red Hulk, She-Hulk and Totally Awesome Hulk spin-offs.

2. Noah Hawley has an amazing track record. The guy did a great job with Fargo and Legion. Doom will likely be very good, it's just a matter of the actual FF reboot also being good.

The universal hulk situation is different than spidey and the fox properties. Marvel has full control over hulk and could make a movie any time they want. But universal has distribution rights so they would get a cut if the profit. Disney doesnt want to lose out on any profit for a character they already own and control.

Noah Hawley has zero track record when it comes to film directing. There was far more rational reason to have faith in Josh Trank after Chrinicle than there is reason to have faith in Noah Hawley now.

It's still the same studio that has had three chances to do Doom right and screwed up beyond belief at each opportunity.

And even if a Doom film is great, Fox still will have never made a film close to what FF should be. They'll still be just as unable to make FF as they've always been. We'd be right back where we are and they just would have killed more time with their game of 'keep away'.

Except James Gunn has said that Marvel wouldn't do an FF reboot if they got the rights, they'd just use their villains (namely Kang and Annihilus). Kevin Feige has already said that Fox has no intention of ever allowing the rights to revert.

Like it or not, I'd rather hope that the upcoming FF film is actually good than root against it.

So FOX is gonna invest money on a failing IP which got a negative score on Rotten Tomatoes and lost the studio millions of dollars. Additionally, after Fant4stic, many are negative to another rebooted Fantastic Four film by FOX.
