Where are the new FFINO or DDINO defenders to fansplain why another FF or Doom film will actually work this time?

Don't worry. The next time there's a bit of news or a rumor there will be people telling us Fox is going to make a great film... then they'll disappear because those people don't actually give two s***s about the Fantastic Four.

Is Fantastic Four the most mismanaged superhero franchise ever?

This is a nicely thought-out explanation of Fox's ineptitude.

In the wake of this repeated maladministration, there is only one obvious way forward for the Fantastic Four to establish their rightful place among the highest plinths of the big screen comic book pantheon, and that is for the quartet to be absorbed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe – a route that has just seen Spider-Man return to prominence after the relative mediocrity of the wallcrawler’s last few Sony movies.

Except that they aren't the most mismanaged superhero franchise ever. Fox do know what they're doing and it shows by putting their best talent Simon Kinberg forward and getting the likes of Noah Hawley to work on what will be their definitive version of Doom and....

....ahh... what's happening? I was temporarily possessed by a FFINO defender.  :argh:

:funny:

With these latest rumors of kindergarten FF, I have to wonder, are they joking? Do they just really hate us so much that they want to punish us? Are they trying to set us up with and idea so absolutely terrible that they think we'll be glad to have the crap they really intend to give us?

There's no way that anybody - even at Fox - could think that's a good idea.

I don't know if Kevin Feige is aware that this thread exists, but if he doesn't, someone here needs to show it to him at either the next D23 or Comic-con, and let him know there's a hunger for these characters to return home (I'd do it, but I'm based in Europe :csad:).

As of this moment, there are 22,731 total posts. Started on Jan 15, 2013 if anyone wants to Tweet him... and invite him to join the discussion. :cwink:

Before tweeting him we need to fill this thread with Kevin Feige reaction gifs of him when Amy Pascal announced that Venom would be in the MCU. Must get that fake smile to greet him in here.

:lmao:

That was a classic moment.

And I would just like to say - and I know I say this so often that the rest of your are probably getting sick of hearing it - that not only is Kevin Feige a highly skilled and talented film-maker, but he's also a quite charming and handsome man.

And, yes, I know I say this all the time and not just when there's a slight chance he might read this, so I apologize for repeating myself so often.

If Fox can get away with making a FF movie about superkids and that fulfill the contract obligations then Avi Arad must have been high as a kite when these deals were made.

I dont believe for one second Fox would go through with this. If this is a scare tactic to get Marvel to make a move they need to come better than this ratchet plan. Fox making anymore FF films is the equivalent of making Pootie Tang 2.

:funny:

I assume you're being slightly tongue-in-cheek with the Pootie Tang reference, but lets stop and think about it.

Pootie Tang got 29% on Rotten Tomatoes. The last FF film got 9%.

And the first FF film got 27%, so two of the three FF films were considered worse by critics than Pootie Tang.

And even though ROTSS beat Pootie Tang by a small amount (37%) if you average all three films, you get 24%. So the average RT score for all three FF films is below the 29% Pootie Tang bar.

The combined RT score of all the FF movies is still lower than a single one of the MCU movies.

Wait, Venom's in the MCU? Since when????

Wait, Venom's in the MCU? Since when????

I guess you missed Amy Pascal's drunken interview lol. And no (at least as it stands at the moment, things can change) he is not in the MCU according to Feige.

Wait, Venom's in the MCU? Since when????

The way I read/interpret the various things I've heard is that Sony won't be able to directly reference specific characters or situations in the MCU, but they can mention Spider-man.

Since viewers will know Spidey is in the MCU, the natural inference by most general movie-goers is that Venom will be in the same reality as Spider-man - which equals MCU. And based on comments from Marvel, it doesn't sound like they're going to insist Sony go out of their way to say Venom is in a different reality.

So it's sort of like Schrödinger's cat - both in and out of the MCU at the same time...

That was what was so funny about the interview. Pascal suddenly announced Venom was in the MCU and Feige, not wanting to make a scene, had to grin and bear it. It was the fakest smile you'd ever seen and then immediately after you saw the cogs turning in his head so that it was clear he wasn't happy about that. I'd post the video or a gif but I'm on my phone right now.

The second video has some profanity in it. I'd take that one down and find an unedited version of that interview without the interjections (which contain the profanity).

The first one is hilarious though.

Yeah I forgot about that, so I posted the original interview.

That interview confirms that Kevin Feige and Marvel have discussed Captain Britain before. A lot of actors have come in and asked about that role. I think it would be a good one to get out there for English fans. It could corner the market on the King Arthur genre. Just don't get Guy Ritchie to do it.

A Brief History of the Fantastic Four on Television and the Big Screen

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2017/08/a_brief_history_of_the_fantast.html

I love this bit:

"Fantastic Four" comics are known for flamboyant set pieces and brightly colored heroes and villains. While the characters were highly praised for their humanity, the book was always noted for its artistic brilliance, featuring some of the most creative drawings ever to appear on the pages of a comic book.

That's it in two sentences. The primary goal of any Fantastic Four film should be to capture those elements of FF, mentioned above, that revolutionized comic-books.

I'm sure Marvel understands this and that's why a Marvel FF film wouldn't even be recognizable from anything we've seen from Fox.

I don't know if Fox just doesn't get it... or simply refuses to spend the money to do it right. People should walk out of an FF film saying: "WOW!!"

And if Fox isn't willing to do that, they have no right to strangle the property just to prevent anyone else from doing it.

It's mainly money. Remember, Deadpool and Logan had less money budgeted towards production than Fant4stic. Fox just wanted a cheaply made movie to retain the film rights and profited from. I'm happy that Fant4stic bombed at the box office and Fox lost over $80 million because of this.

You're right, of course, but that's what's so damn frustrating. The FF is expensive. Fox doesn't like expensive. It's not a good fit, and after 3 tries, it's clear Fox doesn't want to do it right.

So why can't they just let it go? Focus on the thousands of X-characters, like Gambit, that can be done less expensively than FF.

They keep trying to twist FF to fit what they want to do instead of just using their formula on X-characters that audiences would be much more interested to see.
