I know the likely hood is probably similar to a snowball's chance in hell, but still a man can dream.

If Dark Phoenix is a Fan4stic-sized pile of bovine excrement Disney/Marvel could well decide to scrap the abomination and write it off. No reason to let Kinberg turn another major asset radioactive, not when Feige can spin that dross into gold. It could join Song of the South in the vault under Walt's grave.

It's great news if it happens. I hope it does. It would be a dream come true. We didn't think we'd see Spider-Man in the MCU, and the deal with Sony almost seemed off the table at one point. But then it all fell into place.

But how will they explain where the mutants have been all this time and why they would be treated differently from the Avengers and other superheroes? Are they going to be viewed in the same light as the Inhumans, who may or may not exist in the movies?

Or will we have some Secret Wars type of event where the Beyonder brings people from different universes together on Battleworld, and then some of them end up going back to earth (like the X-Men and Fantastic Four, along with their villains)?

Do the X-Men and the FF have to come from the same universe as the Avengers and Spider-Man? If they were from alternate earths, that would explain why no-one has heard of them so far. The X-Men and FF don't even have to be from the same earth but two separate ones.

Honestly, I don't even want the X-Men interacting with the current MCU. I'd rather Marvel just handle that franchise separately.

I think Mutants existing is easy to explain as they are outcasts, feared and hated by society. They can make the earlier Mutants like the Morlocks so they look like they don't belong also to play into that whole theme. They explain that they remained in seclusion and in hiding to avoid the publics intolerance. Then one day Charles Xavier comes along and he tells Mutants they no longer need to hide or be afraid and he introduces them to a school where they can learn their powers and be free of fear from the outside world. This though does not last as a threat arises and requires them to become the heroes they were born to be despite the public not deserving them.

As for the Fantastic Four they could just have them develop their powers after Infinity War or as a result of it. So, no need to explain anything as they were only Reed Richard's, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm, not the Fantastic Four during the last 30 years, so there is nothing there that would draw the attention of the Avengers.

Very true!

I've been thinking.... what if this has been in the works for a long time? Remember when Latcham left MS for Fox? Hmmmmm

I actually don’t want the X-men in the MCU. I’m sick of the Wolverine and Magneto show. I like they have made lesser heroes more famous.

Well the Wolverine and Magneto show has been Fox's take of the X-Men. I have confidence if Feige was putting it together it would be a much more rounded story for characters.

Well they could have the three-way fight between Wolverine, Hulk and Wendigo.

But they'd probably put Wolverine in the Avengers, like he's been in the New Avengers.

I think though it would be better if they said the X-Men took place on an alternate earth. That way they wouldn't be always in the MCU, but could have the potential to cross over for event movies (like Secret Wars).

Not a fan of Wolverine joining the Avengers, at least not for a while. He has his own Team the X-Men and there he should stay at least until the X-Men has been explored for a while. The Wolverine, Hulk, Wendigo fight would be interesting if we were getting Hulk movies, but since Hulk only shows up in other peoples movies I would not want to see him in the X-Men movies.

I don't mind the idea of the X-Men kind of existing on their own separate from the other MCU story lines and then coming together for event movies like a Secret Wars, but I still don't think they need to exist on an alternate earth. The earth is a very big place and there can be references made without them showing up to every battle and still tie things together.

At least that is how I see it.

Surfer

I would actually like to see Wolverine start with Alpha Flight, and have him join the X-Men a short time later.

I wouldn't mind seeing the X-Men on an alternate version of Earth (that could be accessed through some inter-dimensional travel or such), but I think they need to be completely redone.

They could be done much, much better with far more interesting and dynamic characters, stories and visuals than anything we've seen.

Imagine real Sentinels and real X-Men. It could be amazing and so much better than anything we've seen.

I'm just excited that the two studios are definitely talking! That alone means that there is an increased possibility of the FF returning.

best case scenario for you whiny rats Disney gets x-men/f4 then Fox sells everything else to who? FOX DOESN'T WANT TO BE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY!!! not many companies out there that have the ability to relieve fox of this burden they've randomly developed.

I've been disappointed in Disney for seemingly not making a strong effort to acquire the FF rights, including handing over TV rights to FOX with apparently no characters coming back in return. But maybe that was, as Willie has suggested, the Mouse being flexible in order to facilitate a more extensive deal at a later time. It's certainly great to know both sides are talking.

I'd say scrap X-men altogether. even deadpool. 10 years reboot it. Do FF first

Funny how just earlier this year there were talks of a merger between Time Warner and Fox. And now Disney is stepping into the mix. Fox has clearly been trying to make a move for a while now.

I don't get why Fox wants out so badly? They're a media company. What are they supposed to do if they stop making movies and they sell off all their current TV series and start from scratch?

Since how long have Fox wanted out of movies and TV? They're traditionally a movie studio with the iconic search lights for the 20th Century Fox logo. Is that going to become a thing of the past?

On the sports side of things I find it ironic that all those employees that got the axe from Disney/Espn jumped over to Foxsports may be bought out by their former employer.

Fox did put in an offer for $80 billion for Time Warner back in 2014. TW were not interested though and the Dark Lord Murdock withdrew his bid noting "I just felt with all the uncertainties in the world, I didn't want to be carrying that degree of debt."

I think AT&T are trying to buy/merge with Time Warner now.

Its interesting the rise digital providers like Netflix & Amazon looks to have Fox management at least considering selling off their movies and the like.

I wonder if the stocks rising after news of the talks were revealed will help.

Not necessarily. In theory Disney could keep the '21st Century Fox' branding with the studio then serving as an another subsidiary. Like Pixar, Lucasfilm, Touchstone Pictures and Marvel Studios.
