The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - Part 13

I'd love it for Avengers 4, just trying to keep my expectations in check as to how fast they can cast and feature someone in it. If it can be done, well it's the stuff of dreams really. :hmr:

I bet that Feige has been following this very closely, and maybe even was already working on this should it go through. I think the main factor on if they can make it work will be when the sale goes into effect.

Feige and the guys at Marvel have contingency plans on top of contingency plans

Yes......Sony is our next target.

Disney has no need to fully acquire Sony, only Spiderman rights. They will have some IPs that they can divest in exchange for it, along with cash considerations. Same with Namor/Hulk. Theme park rights in Orlando is the one to watch IMO.

Besides being personally excited about the possibilities I’m most happy for Willie, the guy has been hopeful for a looong time

I haven't really spent much time in the sub-forums of any of the MCU films. If Fantastic Four ends up back at Marvel, I may be a frequent patron of that sub-forum.

Thanks! It’s been such a long time, my brain won’t let me believe it will ever happen. I’m still waiting for that announcement before celebrating.

Disney can dangle the James Bond home distribution rights in front of Sony. They really want those, especially since they could end up losing the distribution rights. Otherwise they are very dependent on Marvel Studios to make the Spidey films for them. That doesn't reflect very well on them.

With Universal, they could do a deal with them for certain IP's from Fox. Will be interesting to see what they do there since they'd love to have the Marvel theme park rights back along with Hulk & Namor. Especially as Universal Orlando expands with their land purchases. They are also rumored to be in the running to possibly buy SeaWorld Orlando since Merlin Entertainment (who owns Legoland) is interested in buying Busch Gardens. Universal could use a couple more IP's for their upcoming park(s).

Even if the deal closes, Part 2 of Dark Phoenix, X-Force, Doom and Gambit are still likely to be filmed next year. New Mutants, Deadpool and Dark Phoenix will likely still be released. There was just New Mutants marketing released today and Deadpool 2 has a trailer. Dark Phoenix has a nine-figure budget. It would be stupid to cancel these films. Doom will be reworked to fit into the MCU but I don't see the X-Men universe canceled next week. What that means is no X-Men until 2021 at the earliest.

So what's the future of the MCU post Avengers 4 right now?

Captain Marvel + sequel?
Black Panther 2
GOTG 3
Dr. Strange 2?
Ant-Man & Wasp + sequel?
Spider-Man 2

No they won’t . What would be the point in making a deal just to have movies outside the mcu?

Do Disney own the home distribution rights to Bond? Sony made a deal before to give MGM all the rights to Bond including Casino Royale in exchange for Spider-Man.

I think the point is logistically it doesn't seems like the deal would be done in time for Disney to have any say it what happens with those films. Especially the ones being release next year.

This is the genius of Marvel and what they've done so far. They don't just throw 20 characters at us at once. They introduce them slowly and let us get to know them as individuals.

That's the big difference in my mind between the MCU and the X-Verse and why the MCU works so much better. We never really got to know Cyclops or Jean Gray or Storm in a way that allowed us to see their different personalities and understand and like them as individuals. They were always just a jumble of characters who we didn't know well enough to make us really care about them. We ended up caring more about the villain than the heroes.

The MCU is great at constructing a cinematic universe and doing its hero characters properly. On those 2 measures it's undoubtedly the best. Others can beat it in other areas but it is the King in those areas and I believe they are the most important for the long game. If you have the heroes right and the villains wrong and your universe is constructed well you can weather individual poor films without losing momentum like the DCEU has, like SPidey did with SM3 and TASM2, and the X-verse did with X3 and XMO:W.

This. And why would Marvel want yet another Fox iteration of Doom so that theirs is the 4th instead of 3rd version?

And what's the point of even making a Fox Doom film if Marvel don't even plan to continue that?

The FF boards were some of my favorites when they were open. Hopefully if this happens, we can all enjoy a more positive atmosphere in there, lol

Ego didn't feel like Galactus because though he was basically making the world himself, they focused the storyline on his personal relationship with Starlord and 95% of it was on his planet, so the epicness was lost in favor of making it more personal. In GotG2, it worked. But, Galactus can EASILY be seen as a viable threat. You just have to film that differently. You need to focus on the terror Galactus is causing and highlight the ramifications of him destroying a planet. See the opening to the Transformers cartoon film for a good example of setting those stakes early and well. Show us refugees of other worlds who lost everything to Galactus. Show people who see the silver light in the sky fleeing their planets in terror. Focus on that, and it will feel epic.

Yes agreed. That story chose to focus on the personal rather than universe threat route. And Transformers did something right? :woot:

Doom and Gambit will be cancelled. They won't rework FOX's existing Doom script, they will scrap it and introduce Doom in their own MCU film instead. You cannot make a Gambit movie before you have an MCU X-Men. Both those are gone. The other 3 will likely only see release cause they were filmed and in post already.

I remember hanging out there quite a bit during pre-production on the first Tim Story film, but then the cast members started getting announced and it left me cold. Abandoned the board completely when Dr. Doom's costume was revealed.

Not THOSE Transformers :oldrazz:

It’s too late to add X-Men and FF to Avengers 4, but they can have a cameo in the after credits scenes to tease Phase 4.

I disagree. The film is going to have reshoots at some point, so let's say those happen this Summer. They have 6 months to make that work, possibly more depending upon when the reshoots actually start and if Feige has not been working behind the scenes already on it. Plenty of time. Again, that timeline assumes that the sale is effective once approved or by 1st of year. If the sale doesn't finalize until sometime next year once this is worked out, then yeah it won't work.

I can see it now in the A4 post-credit scene, the Hulk has escaped. Nick Fury walks into a dimly lit room with Everette Ross and says to a shadowy figure 'your the only one who can take him out'. Wolverine walks out of the shadows. We all pass out
