The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 6

I honestly believe that it's why the Xmen franchise is dying. With out Marvel being involved, that franchise is becoming stale. I think the only reason Deadpool did as well as it did was because of Mark Miller and Ryan Reynolds insistence to play the character. I wouldn't be surprised if Fox got more involved in the sequel and it shows in the final product. At this moment, Deadpool is the only superhero property Fox has that people are really interested in. I just can't see them doing well with F4. They really have no clue what to do with the franchise. Trying to mesh Xmen and F4 was a horrible fit. It would have made no sense and there was no build to it at all. Just no leadership at Fox at all! Kind of ranting but man am I pissed right now! :argh:

I think people could be interested in X-Men if they changed things up. But I'd hate to see a reboot because I love Sheridan and Sophie Turner as Jean and Cyclops and want to see them in the roles longer.

I promise you that if Fox announces another film (without Marvel) I'm going to troll every site that mentions it in any way and unload vitriol that I doubt Fox can even imagine.:argh:

No offense but I doubt they would care.:oldrazz:

Though I'd probably do the same thing.

They don't care about you and they don't care about me.

...but we won't be alone. We saw what it was like last time (people like Kinberg were whining that we weren't being "fair").

FF 2021, if it happens, is sure to be the most hated film ever from the day it's announced until the day it's released. If Fox really will try again, they better be ready for that, because that's the way it will be.

Exactly. We were told during production that the hardcore FF fans didn't matter. After FFINO's release we were blamed for killing it.

They really have no chance now. The FF franchise was a vast universe to adapt in itself, but that universe got a lot smaller once Marvel created a shared cinematic universe, and now a multiverse, it seems. What was once accepted as a big, rich and diverse franchise, today is not enough (the same for Bats and Spidey with their huge rogue galleries). Interaction with other franchises is a must nowadays.

FF fans had no power or relevance for this movie until the numbers started dropping. :o

The thing is, with nearly any other film imaginable, the reaction to an announcement would range from enthusiastic excitement to "that sounds cool, I'd be interested to see more". But this film will get complete, absolute hatred.

Imagine just a few examples:

DC announces Green Lantern
Sony announces Carnage
Fox Announces Cyclops
Marvel announces Man-Thing

Some people would be excited by those while a lot of people wouldn't be excited but they'd be at least interested.

Now imagine Fox announces FF 2021. The internet will explode with hatred. Every site that posts the press release of Fox's announcement will get swamped with nasty posts (and I'll be right there posting some of the nastiest).

I don't think any other potential film that could even be imagined (Howard the Duck Vs. Jason Vorhees?) would get the kind of hate a hypothetical reboot would get.

It would be a nightmare from the start.

. . . which really puts us in a no-lose situation because if our worst nightmare comes true and Fox does decide to reboot, we'll at least get some entertainment from watching the internet burn. :woot:

It wouldn't be complete hatred though. All the FFINO defenders will be back in full force with something to finally live to for to post!

While I'm sure that was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, after screwing those people so bad, hasn't Fox killed even that tiny bit of support they had last time?

For the first film, I'd say things here were roughly 90% positive. By the second film, that had probably dropped to 70-80% positive, and by Fant4stic*, it was maybe 10-20% positive.

I think another effort would have close to zero support. It's one thing to have a lot of negativity, but I think we could expect nearly everybody to be negative next time around with few, if any, people willing to actually publicly support the film.

*Isn't it interesting how "Fant4stic" itself has become a pejorative? Even though it's the actual name chosen by the studio, it has a negative connotation. It's like: If you want to be snarky, don't say Fantastic Four 2015, that's not insulting on its face, but if you type Fant4stic, you're belittling the film by simply using its real name.:woot:

Fox itself is on shaky grounds outside of Deadpool( and quite honestly, I think Fox is going to screw up the sequel). So far, they have very few in the way of viable franchises. Xmen is kind of in a slump, Avatar sequels are taking forever to come out and frankly that franchise has little momentum nowadays. The Apes franchise is on its way out with the 3rd film. Further installments would only dilute it in this crowded blockbuster period. Rothman is much to blame in their weak assortment of genre pics, and I don't know what Fox can do to truly remedy that in a big way, save cooperating with Marvel.

The last thing they need to do is make any more Fantastic Four films on their own.

Even back at the time the film was coming out though, the name "Fant4stic" sounded pejorative. It has the connotation of sticking it to someone, and maybe the "4" in there sounds kind of similar to when you might say "F you" or "F all" without saying the full thing. So the whole thing "Fant4stic" kind of sounds like they're giving the middle finger to fans to stick it to them, but ironically it's backfired on Fox and now it has the effect of giving the middle finger to stick it to them instead.

Actually that reminds me of a legal anecdote (I'm not sure if it's true or not but doesn't really sound true) where an inexperienced lawyer is before a judge in a family law case and there's some form which shows what the parent is entitled to which simply says F All. So when the judge asks the lawyer what is on the form, the lawyer is reluctant to say and remains rather sheepish about it. Finally, the judge presses him to simply spit it out and not beat about the bush, so that lawyer plucks up the courage and says that they're entitled to **** all.

The judge sits there shocked for a minute until he points out that the parent is actually entitled to Family Allowance.

:lmao:

Come to think of it, I seem to vaguely remember people complaining that somebody was referring to the film as "Fan-Four-Stick" in the "Positive Thread" and they felt that was inappropriate and wanted the moderators to take action.

Did that really happen, or is my mind playing tricks on me? It sounds too funny to be true. :funny:

Only the people who actually wanted a good FF movie. The people who just want to support a reboot because they hate Marvel? They'll be perfectly fine.

That does sound somewhat familiar. I seem to recall something along the lines of Fan-Four-Stick.

The positive thread was a laugh.

First off Willie Lumpkin Howard the Duck vs Jason Voorhees sounds amazing and I'd be first in line to see it!

But as to Fox they are at a loss for how to proceed. The X-Men films are directionless and, for some bizarre reason, still in the 1980s. F4 brand at Fox is utterly damaged way beyond repair. The only viable franchise they have is Deadpool and that only worked because the usual useless morons (looking at you Kinberg) weren't involved. The second they start throwing every character and their mother into the sequels to try and "start new franchises" that too will tank (or should I say "Trank").

The only thing to do that makes sense business wise is to partner with Marvel. A move that, despite recent optimistic movements, they seem unwilling to make.

Then again it could always be worse...you could be the WB.

No. You won't be. The vitriol that Fan4stick got was nothing compared to what will happen to another Fox FF attempt.

For reference, look at the like/dislike ratio for the videos referring to the cast merely entertaining the idea of a sequel.

Whatever new installment Fox pumps out, god forbid a direct sequel, will be the most hated blockbuster up to its release. It might even put the new Ghostbusters reboot to shame.

I think Miles and Kate are just saying the politically correct thing. They probably have contracts and to say what they really think would suggest they intend to break their contracts and make them look bad to studios and producers who want actors who can always be positive and toe the company line.

But they know it will never happen. On the off chance it does, they'll have their agents and lawyers working overtime trying to get them out of it.

Of course. They're obliged to say they're willing to fulfill their contract obligations. Saying anything negative would be committing career suicide, like Trank

Yeah, I know they are just being diplomatic, given they aren't prolific enough to speak up their mind. Kinberg on the otherhand doesn't have the same excuse.

Yeah. They know, like us, that films that lose the studio as much money as Fant4stic did do not get sequels.

I have this image of a couple studio execs discussing Kinberg:

Exec. 1: Damn, this loser still has two years left on his contract. What can we do with him to prevent him from screwing anything up?

Exec. 2: I've got it. Let's tell him we want him in charge of Fant4stic 2 and have him work on that until his contract is up.

Exec. 1: Oh come on. Kinberg is a dimwit, but even he isn't that dumb.

Exec. 2: *Looks over his glasses, but doesn't say a word.*

Exec. 1: Yeah, you're right. Calling him dumb is an insult to dumb.

You guys say that, but Kinberg is still getting plenty of work over at FOX.
