BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 2

I like it. Improves an already fantastic suit.

The square buckle, I think, has more to do with its visual interaction with the angular "S" than anything else.

I like the separated "ribbing" VS the somewhat cluttered look of that portion of the previous suit.

I like the Kryptonian overlay on the S-shield.

And of course Henry looks fantastic, and the higher cuffs serve to make his forearms look larger.

I have the feeling that if this BvS suit had been used in Man Of Steel and the MOS suit used in Batman v Superman that everyone would still be saying how much they liked the improvements.
I can only speak for myself, but I'd disagree. The piping and belt always seemed off to me in MOS, but not enough to be a big deal. Here they've refined the design enough to where it looks well integrated with the rest of the suit. I can't say I'm bothered about any element of the suit anymore.

Well...other than the colors. :o

It's stuff like that I don't even notice.

I guess I'm just observant. From my perspective, they're hard to miss. It won't be a problem in motion.

Another unnecessary change.

The first pair were perfect. They could've just left them alone.

I won't be looking at his boots much so it doesn't bother me.

No one will, which begs the question of why they even bothered changing them in the first place.

I had a pretty good laugh when someone told me I was wrong and that the new suit is absolutely no different than the MoS one.

Am I the only one who finds the double "M" on the boots to be ugly as all get out?

But it's actually more authentic looking to my eyes because I grew up with Curt Swan's Superman and that is how he drew the boots. The MOS boots were very close, but the BvS double M is actually more accurate. I'm still not sure about the square buckle but will have to see more pictures before I can say yea or nay on it.

Looking at the buckle in close up, I'm thinking that it might not actually be rectangular, but is perhaps more of an upside down trapezoid shape.

The lines on the oblique section of the MOS suit are grouped pretty tightly together and look kind of monolithic and rigid, and perhaps they restricted how Henry could move. On the BvS suit the lines are spaced farther apart and at a guess I think they likely allow Henry to crouch and turn his waist better without that element buckling.

I hated the new boots when I first saw them, but from a distance...

... that's about right. Which means the rectangular button is my only nitpick with the new suit.

I'm very curious to see what that new S shield looks like from the front, with that line/pattern running through it.

I think the sides of the buckle are actually slightly angled or canted. Could be wrong though.:yay:

Eh...not really. Not in the way they went about it, anyway. They're similar in thickness, certainly, but the execution is definitely different. The DOJ boots look like two seams over top of each other that just so happen to arrange in a familiar shape. The Swan boots...don't.

But I'm probably just being pedantic. :o Fudge it. I just prefer the old boots.

For those concerned about the size of the emblem on the new Superman costume, I created the following juxtaposition from the official BvS image and a screenshot of Cav-El taken from my personal MoS DVD. In both pictures, his chest can be observed from nearly the same angle.

Here are my brief thoughts: Although not as large as the original, the new shield isn't significantly smaller. Changes to the length of its individual sides as well as Cavill's barrel chest should be taken into consideration as well.

Judge for yourself though.

As much as I like the suit I want to see how the colors appear on film.

Agreed.
I love the new suit!!!! :D :D

If you haven't seen it, check out the SUPERDUPER hi-res one posted last night, definitely just a rectangle.

Thanks that really shows all the changes in vivid detail. I see the boots aren't 100% as Swan drew them, but close, and the buckle although rectangular doesn't look rigidly so. It's sort of soft looking, but I'd really like to see it from head on, perhaps it is wider than it looks.

Overall none of the changes are bad, and the lines on his waist I'm sure were modified for enhanced less restrictive movement on Henry's part.

I think the suit's even better this time around, which wasn't an easy feat to accomplish. I seriously think the Supes design between MOS/BvS is the greatest superhero suit ever put on film, easily. Just my opinion.

I'm wondering if perhaps the square "buckle" is so that it will show up better from a distance.

I'm curious if the colors have changed significantly. I want to see it in better lighting.

Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's... wait, is the buckle oval or square?

Looking at these two photos, I'm wondering if the S is actually the same size and the collar is just a little higher? Not sure...

Plus Henry's chest looks a lot bigger so the 's' sits differently.

it seems as the collar is a bit higher... probably to deal with the chest hair...
