BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 3

The only thing that I miss about the old suit is the oval shaped belt buckle. But aside from that, practically everything about this suit is a vast improvement over the previous design.

I especially love on how much more vibrant the yellow and blue color parts are on the suit, along with the more thicker yellow belt lines.

So far, I am really pleased hoe the suit looks, even with the dark color of the film, it still looks fairly bright and the red is noticable and doesn't also look like it could possibly be dark brown or purple either.

The leaked photos of Cavill in his suit for the Smallville battle in MOS made me excited and at first I thought to myself I'm flattered they are not going to go the Superman Returns way. Yet Snyder made the film so dark, and it a number of scenes, the red is very mutated.
which was disapointing.

Before that however, I remember watching the leaked Comic Con footage, and being pleased by how bright the red on Superman's costume looked, but then noticed by the second official trailer, Synder darkened the final cut.

In that scene where Superman explains the phantom drive to Swanwick, thr color is so dry and it's as if they are trying to hide Superman's colors because they think it's cheesy. The red looks completely dried out, the way tomatoes look when they dry out, that same color.

I assume though that they have finished editing the film, so that is the final cut of what the film looks like that we saw in the trailer.

At least MOS's condition wasn't as bad as tv's The Flash is with the Flash suit, at night time, you can't even see the red because it looks black!

I guess Im the only one who finds the idea of Superman wearing a sculpted muscle suit to be ridiculous.

Any padding should slightly compliment Cavills build... not create **** that aint there with padding. It more sculpted than the previous suit...

In the BvS world the people aren't supposed to think he's wearing any padding at all, they are supposed to be under the impression that he's wearing skin tight under armour like gear and those are his muscles coming through the suit... but in the real world tight fitting gear like that isn't designed to make you look ripped or bigger, it's designed to essentially better your exercising performance. It's more built for purpose than look.

I actually think that was one of the reasons they did the shirtless scene in the first movie, just to show the audience that he's big & ripped so they've actually less of a hard time accepting if he's wearing some padding to compliment his physique in the Superman suit.

Anyone have a close up of the cape from the video? Seems like they added a texture (ribbed lines) to it, so up close it doesn't look as velvety as before.

The only problem I have with the added cape texture is that it looks the same as Batmans armor suit cape. If it's because that was Zods armor, I guess that would make sense. But that's a really minor detail.

Also, I liked the blue border of the MOS shield better, but this suit is still amazing

I watch some parts of MoS yesterday and yes, the cape is different in BvS.

Yeah I'd say Cavil got in shape more so for his shirtless scenes than really what he needed to look like in the suit.

I just think Snyder needs to walk the fine line with his costumes from making them look intimidating and powerful to full-out muscle fetish like we got with Joel Schumacher and his costumes.

These suits, even with definition/size added, seem to move and react as real muscle would... a huge step over the Schumacher world. And the actors are reasonably built underneath to seem plausible. Zod was way more beefcake in the suit compared to his actual size, and yet on screen looked just as authentic as Cavil's size in the suit.

Apart from the shirtless scene in MOS, Cavill doesn't seem to be THAT big nor does Affleck. As has been mentioned here before, those scenes are a mixture of precise camera angles and "pumps" before takes.

The suits are definitely made to ENHANCE their respective physiques and not MIRROR them as evidenced by pretty much every image we have of them candidly out of the suits and those in the suits.

you can see it here:

That texture seems to be used in Batfleck's armored suit cape as well.

While I like the cape, at the same time, I don't like the CGI just by the fact that it is purely noticeable and that it looks too sureal and majestic to be waving in such perfection. I mean in that shot where he is lifting a missile. That cape looks way bigger and longer than the actual cape is.

When Superman is hovering over the military "Don't play games with me, General."

You know the cape is CGI. It looks cartoony. Most shots during the Metropolis battle too, you notice. The movement looks too slow sometimes.

It reminds me of how poor the waving cape effect looked when playing the PS2 version of Superman Returns.

In the scene where Superman is walking out of the scoutship, all CGI. Except that one shot where Cavill is looking up in the sky right before he takes the big leap.

Real capes aren't really good actors.

They should have cast a cape that came with its own wind-blower attached to the bottom.

Don't agree. They shouldn't have cast an established cape at all, but rather a fabric that had built a prior reputation as a very different form of garment, so that it could win headlines for its break out, come back performance.

Barbara Bach's dress from The Spy Who Loved Me, cut with scallops, would have been perfect.

No crap! so what. It's a movie, Cavill really can't fly either. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a jerk by saying that.

This is just...perfection.

I too feel that the new suit went way overboard on the fake muscle. The MOS suit struck a good balance--it enhanced Superman's physique, but was not so over the top as to be distracting.

As with the batsuit, the first thing that happens when I look at it is a voice in the back of my head shouting "Fake muscle!"

At least they're pretty to look at.
