BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 3

I probably wouldn't have thought twice about how Superman was able to shave if it weren't for a bunch of razor commercials raising that exact question in the first place.

Ditto. It never would have crossed my mind if it wasn't for that. Although I loved Mayim Bialik's super-sciencey explanation of it.

Also, Superman should hide his costume under his tongue like he did in some stupid silver age comic.

Ignoring the actual actors in the suits for a moment, based purely on the suits themselves which do you think was better?

Funny enough I feel like the MoS suit seems sort of like a mesh of both.

...that seems like a hard pill to swallow...

...and imagine the outcry of hair teasers for Nicks situation...he already has plugs.

SR suit. It's definitely not perfect, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. Also... damn, I can't wait to get my SL doc bluray. Are those above images the only shots of that suit in the doc?

It's odd how the Nic Cage costume's underwear area has two different shades of red...

Burton: Embolden the loins, immediately!

Both are bad. The underwear on both his horrible, something that makes me think that underwear on the outside just can't be done well.

Cage - The underwear is hideous. Not something fit for Superman but something you would see in a pride parade sex costume or something. It is a thong with a prominent bulge. People say Cavill sports a big bulge, what is this then? This is ridiculous.

Routh - It looks like Superman just came off the beach or something. They look like beach speedos or swimming trunks.

The superman physique is also done weirdly in both cases.

Cage - the musculature looks decent but looks very plasticky. Why would Superman of all people need molded muscles on his chest and abs? He has got his own right? Just doesn't feel organic.

Routh - A way too slim physical representation of Superman. Again shows a very streamlined body like a swimmer, with no bulk or muscle definition. Doesn't look like an impressive Super man at all or doesn't look like we see in the books at all. Might prompt people to say, 'Superman do you even lift?'

Neither is done well. I liked the Reeve suit though. You need an outsized personality and charisma to be able to pull of a suit with an underwear on the outside and still look like the most alpha of males and Reeve had that. He pulled if off easily. Not these guys though. Pass.

It just goes to show that the MOS suit is perfection! Thank you Mike Wilkinson.

Yes it is. And you know what else? Its very classic and timeless, like the classic suit. And, I would not disagree if anyone said that the MOS suit should be the New 52/DC You suit.

The Routh one easily

Still don't know why Singer opted for such a small S shield doe

Keep in minds that Nic Cage suit isn't the complete suit.

:lmao:

Stupidity is part of silver age comics charm, remember that story Superman wanted to hide his identity from Lois, and pretended to kill Clark Kent?

...there's more ? :huh::whatever::loco:

If you watch the documentary, they explain that this was what the suit looked like when they shut down the film, the costumer designer said she really wanted to complete it.

As much as I hate the SR suit, I'd take it over Cage's anyday. Cage's reminds me of the Schumacher-era Batman suits - which looked like glossy plastic bodysuits which the actor (regardless of weight/build) dropped into. Too shiny, too garish, too fake looking.

The SR suit is the weakest Superman suit for me yet, but at least it was fabric and contoured to Routh's body.

SR's costume is terrible, but it is a study in how poor the result can be if you get a number of things just slightly wrong. The shorts, for instance, are not a million miles from what they should be, but the cut is somehow inherently feminine. The neck is inexplicably high. The boots look ill-fitting, and are too low. It all adds up.

Cage's costume is a horror in both concept and execution.

It's like Cage's costume is deliberately designed to draw your eyes straight to his crotch.

they said they were 3 weeks away from start. That's the suit that would have been.

Did you see the other suit?

The one with the Thor like cape on a curtain rod? !:loco:

Did you see the other suit?

They were still working on it (you can see they used a black marker for possible tweaks).
Beside, being 3 weeks from filming doesn't mean they were gonna use the suit right away.

I think it is very wishful thinking that,- that suit was going to change significantly...

It's Burton. That suit fits with his Batman tastes. It went with the rest of the aesthetics of the art design.

Compared to the MOS and BvS Superman suit, the Superman Returns suit looks like a terrible cosplay outfit.

I wouldn't really categorize one as better than the other. I feel like they're more of products of their time. Like, I wouldn't say the MOS suit is better than what Kirk Alyn wore.

But, it terms of what could be done at the time and what they chose to do, it's still hard for me to choose.

SR was OK. It was the extension and extinction of that aw shucks Superman that Donner/Reeve did so well. As said above, Products of their time.

The suit, well it had issues but not entirely laughable. Yes the trunks were a bit small, the belt did not need another \S/, the Hair was plastic, (yes that's part of the suit!), etc.

So glad we got Wilkinson and Snyder. Now.

The s on the belt of SR costume is so unnecessary.
