You're excusing your argument for another suit by saying "far more ridiculous suits have worked on film". Yes, I agree, these other suits people post images of look absolutely silly and far worse than the TDK suit.
I'm not excusing my argument, nor do I see a reason to EXCUSE anything. While some images posted here are indeed silly, many are not silly at all. The question again would be how to accomplish such designs while still allowing the wearer to move relatively freely. I'm not in the "TDK's suit sucks" camp, I like it a lot in some shots and dislike it to the same degree in others. It's only natural that since Nolan started sort of a Batman renaissance in many aspects, people feel that it's too bad other aspects, like the suit in TDK, aren't quite up to snuff. The closer something gets to being perfect the more jarring little imperfections become.
I am an avid Batman comic reader, and I understand your concern about capturing his "imposing presence", but in the comics it is rarely about his suit. It's about his towering size over everyone else. Look at how big he is in the comics compared to other criminals and low life thugs. It's much more about size and setting than the suit. Frankly, the movies are not going to pull it off without different actors and directors. I much prefer Nolan's version of Batman to what anyone else would make, so I'm content with the suit and everything else.
I realize that making Batman as overwhelmingly massive and intimidating compared to the garden variety thug, like he is in the comics, is nigh impossible to do onscreen without very liberal use of CGI - many would argue this would kill the essence of the character. Either that or finding someone who's built like an NFL linebacker but has the acting chops of Bale - not very likely. But you must admit it was achieved to a certain extent in Begins, and it worked wonderfully while it lasted there. The suit was a big part of it, though not the only, the tone of the film was very different too. Pretty much everyone here is aware that the suit introduced in TDK is here to stay, in some shape or another, in TDKR. However, that doesn't prevent us from discussing possible alterations to the design which would bring it closer to a streamlined and more traditional appearance.
In the bolded part, even if you are referring to just the suit and not the films, you're making a GIANT leap of faith in claiming that you couldn't like another Batman suit/film better than Nolan's versions. Absolute claims like that are usually a mark of immaturity. The old saying goes, a wise man changes his mind, a fool never will. I'm not trying to imply you're a fool, but the last part isn't helping your case at all.
Nolan's batfilms are fantastic in their own right, but there are many more possible angles to approach the subject matter that could produce a DIFFERENT, but no less outstanding result.
Basically, this entire thread is about nerd nitpicking when no one outside of the fifteen people on this topic really cares.
Nerds nitpicking on a superhero forum?! No way.
