The GA never would have said "oh it's just a rubber outfit" because Batman gets shot at least twice in B89 and the outfit is clearly "bulletproof." Thus we deduced logically that his chest plate was body armor. I certainly did at age 10.

You can even see the bullet ballistic piercings in the chest armor and emblem where Batman had been shot.

Well, at least to Nolan & Bale's credit, this Batman doesn't just stand in front of people waiting to get shot like B89
The last 15-20 seconds of this video begs to differ.

grappling hook that turns into a capture loop for the ankle on a moving at terminal velocity 180 pound joker is ok but bullet proof fabric, I just cant accept that. Wayne Industries just could not absorb the R&D costs on that. One man hover jet would be much cheaper.

In the context of the movies, rubber equates to armor, so in the movie, the GA would believe that could protect the characters in the movie. Of course they know it's actually rubber that the actors wear, but for you to make a bold statement that after BB and TDK, the GA thinks that now rubber resembles armor is absurd. The rubber suits have always resembled and are meant to be armor in the Batman movies.

Keaton's Batsuit (I'll agree on)...

but Val's and George's Batsuits... ummm, NO.

The cloth gauntlets, zippers, nipples, etc obviously give away the suit's origins. Under proper lighting, these suits can appear to be more than just rubber but the subtle details never give you the opportunity to think so. As opposed to:

Yeah, those Schumacher gauntlets are ridiculous. They looked like they were made from foam and cloth. They didn't even look like they could be used for protection. Also, what's up with the length of those suckers they look like they were up to their elbows?

The Keaton and Bale gauntlets though look liked they could actually take a beating and the blades actually appeared to be sharp. I wonder why the Schumacher suits did away with that.

I really like Keaton and Bale's Batsuits.

Looks like they're all made from similar materials. The biggest difference is that instead of sculpted muscles, we get tech-styled muscles. The other big difference is that BB and TDK are the only movies that fully explain what the rubber is supposed to be.

Well, the BB suit? Yes. The TDK suit? No.

Exactly. That's what gave off the aura about Nolan's suits.

In TDK, no?

I thought it was explained as being hardened kevlar plates on a titanium-dipped fiber, but that's just me.

He did something of a kick in Batman Begins when fighting the LoS in the narrows.

I concur comrade. :awesome:

On a serious note: I'll be making my trip to Japan (as soon as I receive my Master's) to mold my own Katana. I wonder if a plated Batsuit forged from the same process and material could prove to be successful... I might just experiment with the theory myself.

I'm afraid to say that I highly doubt so. The techniques used in making a katana which make them so sharp and durable are specific to swordmaking. The core genius of a katana is that it is a single-edged blade made using differential tempering to create a hard edge and soft back. The forging techniques used wouldn't even suit a western style double-edged sword let alone armor. Once again, steel plates for armor would need to be very thick to stop bullets and would be incredibly heavy so as to be impractical.

I'm not going to follow the exact formula but we won't know until we try. Plates are a different story so we shall see.

I was talking about the appearance of the TDK suit to rubber.
It does look like rubber though, and what you quoted and highlighted was from my post was that these Nolan batsuits have been explained to what the material is supposed to represent in the context of the movie.

He did a roundhouse kick in Batman Forever lol

Well, Schumacher did go for a more grand way of showing Batman action, which always made me wonder how much better are Nolan's suits as far as movement goes.

I disagree and I agree at the same time. The armor plates and gaunlets give the illusion of something more than just rubber. Call it a placebo but it helps, and the lighting & editing don't hurt the suit's image either.

How awful do the gloves on the BB suit look? I think they look terrible.

Out of curiosity, do you have any experience in blacksmithing or iron working? I know you mentioned being a martial artist.

I think a cool idea would be for him wearing lamelar armor with lames made from some bulletproof material.

I can say I'm a martial artist but I don't know much about forging. My dad is a metallurist though. Do do own a katana and jingum though.

All i want is the BB Nomex Survival Suit for Advanced Infantry, before Bruce painted it for Christ's sake...
