This is what Batman should look like.

Who cares how Batman looks in the comics or cartoons and has for several decades. That look can never work on film and never has. Plus the costume needs to be realistic; so it needs armor since Batman would need armor in the real world.

Not bad, but it needs more armor to be realistic and it should be all black for better camouflage. Also the cape should be retractable so he won't trip on it while fighting, but it could come out and form wings so he could glide. The hole in the mask needs to be closed up too.

...I'm just going to go ahead and say no to everything you just said. No open mouth on the mask? Retractable, venetian blinds cape? No thanks. I think you're looking more for Batman Beyond.

As for the suit being all black, black is actually not that great for camouflage. Colours like dark blue actually blend into the night better than black, which makes you stand out like a silhouette. He doesn't just wear black to hide, he wears it for the appearance of a dark, menacing figure. In a way, he actually wears it to stand out and be noticed, and thus, feared by the criminals he takes down.

Having a gray suit would make the black symbol stand out more, which would be fine by me, but I don't see them going that route.

^Also, I question the relevance of black as camouflage in a modern glittering metropolis...

I like it. However, I think Nolan has tried this approach, just not to the extent of black and gray. If anything, I think the gauntlets, boots, and symbol are darker. . just not th^t dark.

Not a major motion picture, but Batman: Dead End made spandex work, in my opinion.

I was about to respond to this, but then i saw this:

and realized that you re being sarcastic. At least i hope so.

He's JBElliott. I guess you weren't around during the build-up to TDK, but JBElliott is the only guy on the forum who actually wants spandex.

I need to post this pic to this new thread too so everyone can see how awesome BB suit is

I remember when this was released. Everybody was disappointed that we were getting rubber again, after reports that we were getting a fabric based costume.

I've always hated the cowl on the 'Begins' costume.

If we get a non-rubber batsuit in the next film, I may very well **** myself.

It was kinda bloated wasnt it? The should be slimmer, perhaps even a bit slimmer than the TDK one. The whole idea that its a helmet makes it very fat, especially around his cheeks.

Still like this one. The old thread has some good stuff in it.

Wow, the bodysuit here looks terrific. It makes the one in TDK look like crap in comparison. And for me it's not the fact that you made it grey and did the color change... it's just how bloody awful the busy plates look on suit. This manip looks great. I prefer the chest of the BB suit. However overall the BB suit was just so large and clunky. Take the streamline and more simple look of the BB suit and add it to the more form fitting TDK suit.

Ahh yes, I forgot about the batgoggles, and also the machine that can smell the 'lightly-radiated bills'. I was getting my utensils mixed up. It's a potato masher he uses in Batman '89 when that thug jumps at him and the potato masher comes from his palm and stops the thug dead in the air--can't remember if it hit his sack or not. In TDK it was more like a gas-powered tin opener he uses on vans and cheap tins of tuna.

In TDK, Batman not only used those things but also the powerful drill used to drive out the brick with the imprinted bullet. As well as the large devise that shot the explosive's in Lau's place. That coupled with what you said(sonar, goggles, and grappler)- he had some nice gadgets.

And the devise on Batman's arm at the beginning of TDK that ripped into the van and squashed the gun is called the pnumatic mangler.

If Spider-Man got to have a cloth costume, then Batman can too. At the very least, do something to the suit to smooth it out, but give it a more classic look at the same time. TDK's suit is terrible, especially the mask which covers too much of the lower half of the face making Bats' face too skinny looking, and is generally too busy below the neck. BB's suit is too bulky and wet-suit-ish. Batman '89 had the best costume of all of the films still, and a big part of that was how the cape was worn, but I even find things about it I don't like. The comics have the best Batman suits, and if Spider-Man's could translate to film, so could Batman's. And don't give me this "realistic" stuff. If you can read a Batman comic and suspend your disbelief, then you can damn well watch a Batman movie and do the same.

The armour makes sense for Batman, since he has no superpowers to protect him, but I wouldn't object to, like you said, something to 'smooth' the suit somewhat. I also wouldn't mind a look somewhat akin to him wearing armour under fabric, but that's me.

One thing I definitely wouldn't change is the cowl set-up. One my "hell yes" moments when I first saw TDK was the "ah, you want to be able to turn your head" scene. It always looked so stupid in the other movies when Batman had to turn his whole body just to look at something slightly so either side of him, and going back to the whole "realism" issue, it doesn't make sense from a strategic point of view to wear something so restrictive. It's a liability.

Gortogogo on deviantart made this manip which blend together aspects of the Keaton and Bale suits. It also proves the yellow oval still looks badass.

Actually, that is pretty cool--though going back to even more rubber wouldn't help anyone, haha.

Also, nuts to Tom Welling.

I love the oval, but wouldn't fit at all for TDKR. It would just be out of place.
