When you get treated with condescension because you want a suit to look a certain way, that tends to happen.

This topic has been the instigator of much fan rage since 1989. 10 years from now, you'll probably still find people arguing about it. Not even the discussion of whether or not Superman should red undies incites as much anger on both sides as the argument whether Batman's costume should be black or gray and blue. It's as bad as the arguments over whether or not Batman needs a sidekick.

The funny thing to me is, with every other superhero, they have to put on a black costume whenever it's supposed to show that they're "going dark." Batman is supposed to already be dark, so why shouldn't he have a black costume by default?

As for this claim that gray is stealthier than black-- first of all, Batman's suit in Nolan's movies IS gray. The way it is lit makes it look black, but it's actually matte gray. I see no reason to make the cowl darker and put panties on it when there would be no discernable difference in most lighting conditions anyway. Second of all, if you're going to use that argument, then surely you would not object to Batman's suit having an urban camo pattern, since whatever benefit a middle gray suit would have would be minuscule compared to actual camo?

There's your perfect Batman suit material. And you wouldn't be able to complain about it, since your argument is that black isn't stealthy enough. ;)

Knock knock, anybody home? Think McFly think!

There's a big difference between "color" and "material," genius.

You don't think calling someone a slimy little worm is a bit much?

BB suit is almost perfect. Ears should be a little longer. Then it would be perfect

I was pretty angry when I wrote that post. But that's what happens when people clearly haven't read my post and deliberately misunderstand my points.

You must see that there are people here who look down on us just because of our opinion on a costume.

That shot makes it look almost flawless but practically it left a lot of room for improvement. Especially the mask made Bale look awkward in many shots imo.

Anyway, time to post a classic manip:

Heheh, I know, right? I'm pretty sure that after two movies of Bruce wanting his costume in black, he's not one day going to walk up to Lucius and say "can make my new suit gray with black panties on it? I want to look like a comic book character."

:wow: Now I know how important that Zorro connection was! It was Bruce's one link to superhero stories with crazy-ass costumes! Chris Nolan, Alfred Gough, and Miles Millar (for their respective crimes) ought to be tried by The Linear Men.

The debate over the plausibility of a grey Batsuit is the longest running argument since the Great Schism of 1054.

True, it's taking longer than we expected. :awesome:

The minute a decent looking grey and black costume appears in a film, everyone would be all over it, support for the Nolan costumes will disappear, and all the nay-sayers will act like they never said anything.

Is that why they're called nay-sayers?

How awesome would it have been if the Joker, after he y'know has his way with Brian, redid the suit like this? With the eye-brows and all that?

I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but in the scene where Fox is talking about the new suit in TDK, he says:

"Now there's a trade off... the spread of the plates gives you weak spots. You'll be more vulnerable to gunfire and knives." before saying something about cats.

It feels like a very important line for our brainstorm around here. Those 'weak spots' could be exposed by Bane, or even Selina if they want to emphasise, in retrospect, that the dialogue was a nod to Catwoman. The Knightfall arc lets a very good place in the story for a suit-update, an obvious one really, during Bruce's return after his initial defeat at the hands of the glorified druggie.

I think the raw muscular power of Bane would make Batman's suit irrelevant, since it is designed to resist blades and ballistics. Bane would throw Batman around like a rag doll, or crush the air out of his lungs. In a sense, Batman may be guilty of complacency because he always expects to be dominant in man-to-man, hand-to-hand combat.

Very true, and that line of thinking is the very thing Bane exploits during Knightfall.

So about the AzBats costume... anyone else think that it'll be the turning point of 'longer ears' 'whiter eyes' and 'bluer' mask?

What do you mean? If AzBat is in the film?

I doubt Nolan would ever go anywhere near a blue mask either way.

To paraphrase Hans Zimmer, "There's a certain sect of the fans that are expecting that at some point, this version of Batman is going to evolve into the one from the Burton movies or the one from the comics. That's not happening."

One of the easiests ways to tell if something is fan-made is if it tries to move closer to the source material at the expense of working for a movie. When you look at the manips of the bat suit for Dark Knight Rises, most of them are easy to identify as fan-made because the artists intent was "how can I make it look more like the comic?" If it were a professionally made illustration, though, the primary goal would be "how can we make it look and work better." They're not going to make the cowl blue, or make the gray on the suit lighter, or put panties on it. If that was the direction they wanted to go with they would have started two movies ago.

Guys...the whole point of AzBat was the fact that it was so drastic and different from the normal Batman.

Bruce would never have work that.

I rarely agree with Timstuff...but I do now.

Implying the TDK suit looks and works better than the comics suit.
