The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread

Just to clarify a few things, The Tevez art is from Batman and Robin. If any of you have the 'Making of' book, its in there.

The silver/grey sonar/ice suit that Clooney wore at the end of Batman And Robin was actually pulled from the same moulds as the Kilmer sonar suit, with a few minor modifications. Scumacher decided (under pressure from WB) Batman should have a new suit at the end of the film, in a mad rush thats what they came up with. Clooney himself said it was very uncomfortable as it was not built to his specifications.

Dear god the B89 and BR suits look so cheap and flimsy in comparison to the TDK and BB suits.

Do you realise the Batman 1989 suit was the first of it's kind, everything that followed in terms of superhero costumes was compared to that and often in the close following years Ringwood was brought on board (X Men for example.

They broke down walls creating the 1989 costume, making the mask look seamless so he looked like a animal, doing stuff that had never been attempted before.

To compare the suits from 2 seperate series of films is totally unfair, if it were not for Ringwood's innovations the new suits would not look nearly as good.

IMO the Returns suit, to this day, is the best designed Batsuit ever used in live action Batfilms.

So one thing is for sure, they need to fix the cowl, it was fine in BB because the neck was thicker, but in TDK is just looked ridiculous, not in all the scenes but in certain shots i couldnt help but wish the cowl was different. But i really cant wait to see what alterations they'll make to this final suit

Hmm.

I think I could live with something similar to Bermejo's Batman on screen.

I never liked, nor understood the torso sculpt on that suit. Why abandon the more anatomical design from 89 for that "techy" design? I never got it. The thing I like most about the Returns suit is the bat symbol on the cowl. It always bugged me that the symbol on the 89 suit didn't match the official comic and movie symbol.

Are they really going to make a show of changing the suit yet again? Is it a criteria that there be some sort of suit conversation in the film? I could do without..

Simplest explanation continues to work best. Batman is the type of person who would continue to upgrade his equipment, and utilize the most advanced technology out there. That rationale would apply to his batsuit.

But on a personal note, I think keeping the same batsuit from the previous film is incredibly boring. Especially when the TDK suit has a number of design flaws I'd like to see fixed.

Bermejo's Batman could work but there's no way there'll ever be a skintight Batsuit on screen. Besides not being useable, it'd just look boring. It'll always be almost like a suit of armor. TDK is the best we've gotten on film, flawless in nearly every way.

I agree on all counts.

I love the "idea" of TDK suit. Sometimes I like the way it looks. Sometimes I don't. But I do think that they will continue to improve on those ideas and make it look outstanding for Rises.

to me...the tdk mask in particular...had moments where it looked great and moments where it looked bad...but so did the 89 costume imo (even though its easily better)
good

The only suit/cowl that has looked good in full on lighting is the TDK one. Everything else has these weird flaws or things that just look cheap in a different light but with the TDK suit what you see is what you get, regardless of the lighting.

I still think Batman Begins is the best cowl...even though it looked a bit off at times...it was the most consistant and still managed to look not cheap in brighter lights...(except that terrible scene in tdk where it looked weird...)

It wouldn't be skintight because he'd have armour underneath, just like he does in the comics.

It wouldn't look boring because while the Burton costumes are made out of rubber they use the basic comic book design, and they didn't look boring. You don't need a lot of lines to look interesting.

TDK isn't the best we've gotten on film because it barely looks like Batman, is far too busy and Bale looks stupid in it.

I always liked the concept of TDK suit. I think it's a brilliant idea but there are ways to make it flexible and well armored while maintaining a comic-accurate Batman look. If it's possible then the question is.... why not? TDK costume made sense but the style was lousy. It looks like one of those made up suits you'd see on one of those Kenner Batman action figures that you decided not to purchase because it looked too much like a gimmick figure with a terrible outfit (that looked nothing like a Batsuit).

Even the action figure looks better than the real thing.

Batman's design works due to it's simplicity. TDK's suit is anything but simple which is why it doesn't work.

It says a lot when the emblem is lost in a body-sized maze.
