Oh. I thought there was water inside the covering too. D'oh !

How amazing is it that they actually built the Batwing? It's not a CGI thing floating around... it's an actual vehicle suspended above the ground. A real, practical effect.

I bet, because the human eye is so trained on detecting CGI in movies (especially seeing Transformers and so on), it will actually be a weird, unusual experience seeing the Batwing in action. We're not used to seeing something for real, you know?

Inanimate objects can be rendered almost flawlessly for a while now. So even if the BAT was to be 100% CGI it would make little difference. Avatar's airships hardly looked fake did it? It's when you try to render a living breathing human that things start to get weird (animals are less of a problem).

There was nothing saying it was submerged, the article said it pops up from a concrete platform.
When they say the concrete platform 'rises up from the watery deep' I'm not assuming it moves anywhere.

No amount of advancement will ever make unreal, real.

Because of that there will be a magic in practical effects, that may be unexplainable, that's preferred

Ah, I see.

Like I said, the distinction is completely lost when it comes to inanimate objects because of how relatively easy and convincing it is. But I guess that would be true if you only stare at stills. I guess the Bat being actually built gives it that weight in that still can't be replicated by animation. But the drawback is that, from what I've seen, it moves like it's on a rig than really floating. But maybe that is because I've seen it move with the rig beforehand.

but practical effects are still unreal. Regardless of what some people seem to say, I can still detect when I'm watching something that isn't real, no matter if it is CGI or a model. I can always tell when something is fake, always.

The CGI bashing on the internet goes a little too far, I love The Terminator but when I watch that movie it is hard not to think how much better the effects work would be if it was done today. The makeup work mostly still looks good, nothing else has really held up. The puppet of Arnie is pretty awful. There is also a moment in T2 where they clearly used a dummy that always takes me out of the movie.

Yeah from the trailer it's movement looks somewhat unconvincing, if I am to be honest. Still we have only seen about 3 seconds of it in action.

I had a dream last night that this movie was leaked online in its full glory and it got me thinking would you guys still watch it, do you think you willpower for it? I don't know, the dream footage I saw in my dreams got me more excited. :cwink:

If it was leaked online today, I would probably cave in sometime before the 20th of July. If it leaked out like a month before, I could resist.

Strange. I had the same dream. :yay:

No way. In fact after this last trailer hits Im gonna avoid this board as much as possible along with trying to avoid clicking on anything TDKR related on yahoo or things like that. I dont want this thing spoiled for me before I can view it in IMAX. Why would anyone wanna see nolans last batflick online? Yuck.

My one vow is to resist all the TV spots and clips. Will I be able to do it?

What if you come back in the room from grabbing a beer during commercials of your favorite show and a TV spot comes on?

I failed with resisting anything with ROTS, the last movie I waited this much for. I was in middle school than. I a good few years older now, I would like to think I can better resist temptation but I don't know. It depends if I have a lot going on in my life or not how much I resist leaks etc. If I have a lot to do than I will have other things to focus on. If I am not very active than I will occupy all my time with this movie, and it's leaks.

I don't watch much TV. But I do however surf the web a lot (duh). I do spend a lot of time on youtube. My fingers are prone to writing "Dark Knight Rises" in the search bar without my consent. :yay:

Haha I have the same problem. Even after spending an hour or two on the hype Ill come back to my computer 4 hours later knowing there is no news and yet I type in "Dark knight rises" into google. God I am obsessed. But I know for this final stgretch run after the trailer I am going to avoid as much as I can. I have a weird feeling something is gonna leak. Its like theyve done such a good job of keeping things under wraps that once its screened early to people in the media or critics the roof is gonna cave in. Those who want to see this movie fresh are gonna have to be very careful from the end of may onward I think.

A good thing is there are other movies this year to focus on as well like Avengers and Prometheus. I can switch back and fourth between them all so it isn't just strictly one good movie that I am near obsessed with. This movie though is bringing back the inner nerd in me that was lost a long time ago in high school upon discovering drugs and stuff.

What kind of quality was the leaked version in your dream?

I'm probably going to watch all the spots and clips, but I'm staying away from the spoilers section from the 15th of July until whenever I've seen it myself.

I cant stay too far away - need to know when the viral kicks off for advanced screenings. Hopefully i do not run into any spoilers ;)

How does what you said make sense? The Batsuit is encased in plastic on the concrete platform. The platform "rises up" out of the water. The Batsuit is submerged.

If it was full 1080p with THX or DTS audio I'd cave. but less than that I'd wait.

Of course I have a decent home theatre. and I'd much rather be able to enjoy it in my comfy chair enjoying my favorite vices.

If Batman flew back to the Batcave in the Bat, after finding out Wayne Manor was the next target, would you think Bane and his men would let it sit there untouched not just immediately afterwards, but until the last act? I think they'd destroy it. All aboard team sewer.
Maybe Batman hasn't acquired The Lobster yet, so it wouldn't have been in the cave when Bane came in.

Although, I'm speaking directly as a representative of Team Cave.
