The hate that Heath got is almost mild compared to when Daniel Craig was announced as Bond.

When I'm listening to the score, I actually forget about "Time", all the other tracks or so good. :hrt:

I'm sure Hans has some....epic...stuff in store for Rises.

It's the first track I think of when I play the score! The live rendition was SO GOOD I want to die.

Eh, I dunno I remember the Heath hate being incredibly passionate and homophobic (due to his roe in Brokeback).

It's because Nolan has all the control this time, I'm sure of it. He likes to save all the surprises for the theatre. He did the same with Inception if I recall, even though I barerly followed that one myself.

I don't know about that. They gave away the best visual money shots of Inception in the marketing. Folding city, JGL floating, etc. They did keep the Fred Astaire hallway dance secret, which was nice.

Yeah the major set pieces were revealed in the trailer. Although the major plot points were well hidden.

Depressingly so. It was pretty clear the vast majority hadn't even seen his performance, which was his best I reckon.

Wow, haven't been here for a while!

In 1986 a young filmmaker, having made an independent movie (which was a surprise hit), went on to make a sequel to a critically acclaimed genre film. Changing the focus in the sequel from the original, the new film was a huge hit, and led to seven Academic awards (one for the lead).

The name of the filmmaker was James Cameron, and the film was Aliens.

22 years later, another filmmaker made a sequel to his film that led to critical acclaim, and an Academic win for the supporting actor.

Like Aliens did for Science Fiction films, TDK was a 'game-changer' because it led to the legitimisation of comic-book adaptations as serious films. The amount of money these films make is irrelevent - look at the 'Twilight' films (the first one made almost as much as BB, on nearly a fifth of the budget - THAT is depressing!). Many hits are classed as 'popcorn' films - ones you can enjoy together, then forget about until the next one comes along.

BUT the 'game-changers' are the films that no-one forgets.

Alien/Aliens, Terminator / T2, Star Wars / Empire, The godfather 1 and 2 - all 2 parters, but the 2nd film expanded and changed what we knew in the first film.

BB and TDK will still be remembered in 10 / 20 years in the same way as these films.

Watch the more 'successful' (i.e. profitable) CBMs such as Spider-man 1, 2 and 3 and tell me you don't cringe at the dated special effects (now 10 YEARS old), or the fact that the storylines are weak.

I'm not making this a DC vs Marvel debate, I'm just saying that TDK will be better regarded than most other CBMs because it took the source material to become a MOVIE, not an adaptation (like the best movies do).

Back on topic, thee reason why I'm not worried about TDKR in terms of marketing or comparing to other CB-based films is that it's pointless. The film has already won by virtue of being made. Forget about how much money this film makes, or that film makes, focus on the following. We have 2 films based on a popular CB character that have revolutionised the industry, and we still have one more to go. Bring it on!

It's nice to see you around more, less and less of "the old crowd" are still strollin' these parts.

It's funny, I was actually just talking the other day in the Catwoman thread about "the good old days," and how the hype/fan uproar for this movie has been compared to TDK. There was a poster trying to say they thought the Joker was accepted more gracefully by the fans then the Catwoman suit has been, and I went into a brief description about the utter pandemonium that was the Hype during the few months before the December trailer in regards to the Joker.

It was a heck of a time. Definitely a hate/love relationship though. It was great to have so many people on the boards, but some of the arguments were simply ridiculous. Still, it seems crazy that it's been four years already.

Good day, sir.

I see what you mean. I think, if anything, the distaste for the direction of the Joker was much worse. It makes sense. Even if you don't like the Catwoman look, you still like the look. Come on, Anne in that suit? Ooof. A bit of sugar with your medicine? Please. Not only that, but Joker just has a much heavier following, leading to stronger opinions. My thoughts, at least.

Worked out fine last time. I'm sure it will this time. From what I've heard, Anne's great in the roll.

I don't know about that. This place was pretty insane for a while. We actually had two competing threads, one called I have Faith in Chris Nolan and one called I Don't Have Faith in Chris Nolan. And then when the first picture came out, the ***** hit the fan hardcore. It spawned the perma-white debate that raged (and I mean raged, that sucker was ridiculous) until the movie came out, the panda-eyes comments etc.

It was pretty crazy.

You lost the nay-sayers at "Legitimizing"

"Time" certainly flies. TDK era was truly something special, the energy surrounding it was extremely palpable. God knows I lurked this forum like a fiend back then. The viral marketing created a feverish mood that probably would have been impossible to duplicate, so I'm kinnnda glad they haven't tried.

This time it's all about being in the dark, speculating, will he live/die etc.

Basically just hanging on for dear life until July 20th.

Are you honestly suggesting that science fiction films weren't thought of as legitimately serious cinema prior to Aliens? :wow:

I agree as well. A friend and I joked that once Nolan saw Anne in the suit he didn't care what they gave her for a headpiece, because all the male audience members would be looking elsewhere:woot:

I'm really not worried. I am however excited That TDKR may have some good competition. From the WOM Avengers has been getting Whendon really brought his A-game, which is great. I would love it if two of the best received and reviewed movies of the year were Superhero films.

Permawhite is quite possibly the craziest debate in the history of SHH, and that is a saying a helluva lot.

Does anyone know where to find the thread and day of,when Heath Ledger was officially annouced as The Joker?I wanna read the reactions haha I can only imagine how Bat **** crazy this place must of been all those years ago.

But form what I can tell, the fans here gave The Joker more heat at first, and then totally lightened up after more pics released(The Wizard and Empire pics come to mind). The GA, on the other hand, seemed to like it on most movie websites. As for Catwoman, it seems to still be mixed with fans and the GA, regardless of where you go.

the Craig hate was just as extreme. I am a huge Bond fan and have accounts at several Bond discussion sites and trust me, the amount of vulgarities heaped on him was astonishing. I think "danielcraigisnotbond" site still exists.

Was? There's still hate for Craig.

however I don't think it was ever as bad the Ledger hate and I, at the time, was a much bigger Bond fan than Batman.

Were you on Commanderbond at that time?

Learn something new everyday. Didn't realize the Bond franchise had such militant fans. :hehe:

It's just as militant as the Bat fandom. Maybe even more. There are those that revere the books, and factions for every actor that played him.

The debates about his hair being blond is not far off from permawhite.
