6 minutes of footage has come down to about 4-5 different arguments and debates.

Some of you people are the reason I won't come around here when the whole 3 hours comes out next year.

*sigh*

Him wanting Pavel and having the authorities off his trail isn't the issue. The issue is the blood transfusion to throw off the authorities that Pavel's dead. Used here, it's doesn't work, even in Nolan's heightened realism.

The elaborate heist to make it look like a plane accident is okay but he could've technically figured out a way to do that without actually getting on the plane.

I'm still confused on the blood transfusion thing. What exactly did they do? I mean, if they just needed someone with Pavel's blood type to make the CIA think it was him...just find someone with the same damn blood type.

Presumably it is for DNA identification testing.

It might just be to buy some time, even if it's only a few more hours.

The bodies will be splattered beyond recognition (and possibly burned up), and DNA would be everywhere. If Pavel's DNA is found at the scene, the CIA would have to fully investigate to see if he was present (i.e. run tests on all of the remains). Even if they ultimately discover that it was a trick, it may have given Bane all the time he needed.

This.

What is so hard to understand about this?

That still doesn't change the fact that you could take hair samples or teeth impressions to figure out that the dead body wasn't Pavel.

More importantly than the actual details of the scene and the logic behind it is that we're seeing the lengths to which Bane and his followers to go to achieve a goal...and I honestly think that's sort of the point that Nolan's making...even if you can technically pick it apart detail by detail.

Yeah, even a quick line of dialogue or a beat to establish that they had removed the teeth or shattered the jaw or something

It may be explained in a later scene.

"That corpse was missing his teeth and hair, but other DNA tests proved it was Pavel".:awesome:

But then why do the blood transfusion at all?

A) In-universe: Because the blood would splatter everywhere, and be inside any intact body parts.

B) Audience explanation: Because it looks cool and is kind of creepy.

Again, if the bodies are burned up, there is no hair (though I admit that I am speculating on this part). And teeth impressions take quite a while to do when everyone's skulls have been completely destroyed and their teeth scattered all over the place.

No, I mean, you wouldn't need to do a transfusion to confuse blood type testing, just someone with the same blood type. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't identify specifically who a person is by blood type.

Plus, if they can find blood of the dude, they can test for sure to confirm it isn't Pavel. If blood's still salvageable from the crash, then hair, skin, and tissue samples would still be there in some form, not to mention skeletal structure.

Do you have any idea how long it would take the CIA, FBI, NSA, DOD, etc to find out that the doctor is not truly dead? Days to weeks. Perhaps that is all Bane needs.

Boom,

True. I read your post about buying time with the transfusion, which might be all Bane needs and that's a solid point....

They only need to know Pavel is dead just so long enough for Bane to smuggle him into the U.S.

From there they won't know where to look, least of all Gotham

It needs to look like the plane went down on its own.

(though the bullets in the bodies probably won't help that story)

Yeah. Hopefully that's how it plays out.

They're just trying to buy time by forcing the CIA to run all sorts of tests. And Rag makes a good point. They might need that time to smuggle Pavel into the States. Once they're on US soil, it doesn't matter what the CIA learns.

Listen, I'm not knocking the scene at all. I've just being reading reactions all day and I've seen the logic of the scene brought up in a few places. It's worth discussion...that's all.

The importance of the scene is not the logic. It's the impression of the character of Bane and that comes across ridiculously well.

I've seen the trailer! read description below

The opening credits roll stuff happens we see a quick glimpse of characters end credits and another quick thing of cool stuff happens.

man I'm bored

I'm fine with assuming that, if Bane needed to do it, then he just went ahead and did it. If I haven't been shown evidence to the contrary, why not?

The blood transfusion gets across the idea of what he's trying to do and that it's important to him. I don't need to see him dot all the i's and cross all the t's, I'll just assume he did and be thankful screen time is spent on more exciting things.

DNA is not equal to blood type.

You can't identify specific victims based on blood type, when you have the blood from a dozen people splattered all around.

Hope that trailer description is fake. The football field scene sounds incredibly cheesy the way it's described there.

But they'll find blood?

Plus, unless I'm mistaken, didn't the CIA guy say he'd call in that Bane was after Pavel when Pavel mentioned him? There's plenty more DNA than blood that can be used to identify someone.
