Lungrocket, is that you...?

Just kidding. Yeah, the comparison has been drawn before with The Cult. There may or may not be some inspiration there. I always like to say for fun, "The Blackfire Rises!".

That story has truly been discussed to death. Some people believe it may be an influence, most don't.

Sorry to have missed the boat on Batman: The Cult.
I can speculate that some elements of the story fit. For example, in the story Batman develops tranquilizer guns to keep Blackfires's croonies at bay (this could be that crazy looking LED gun from the trailer). Batman is kidnapped (could explain Bane saying "when Gotham is in ashes you have my permission to die" while Bruce is in confinement).

I could also see Bane taking over Gotham by declaring a state of emergency acting as a sort of protector of the 99%. Saying that the 1% has abused them for too long and spread lies about so called heroes (Harvey Dent). It would then be up to Batman and possibly Catwoman to show the people of Gotham that Bane is not the great leader everyone things.

I certainly think it at least was an influence on the writing process, but is obviously not the only source material they looked to.

Not TDKR related, but I think this could be really interesting:

I dont know if it's been posted before, but i didnt find it so..
It's about a panel from WonderCon 2012 where forensic psychiatrists will analyse Batman villains as if they were real.

Detecting Deviants in the Dark Knight: Profiling Gotham City's Serial Killers— From the dark corners of Crime Alley to the bleak cell blocks of Blackgate Penitentiary, Gotham City has been plagued by murderous villains who stalk the night. Mr. Zsasz, Abbattoir, and even Commissioner Gordon's son, James Jr., have preyed on Gothamites for reasons that seemingly defy logic. How should Batman, the world's greatest detective, apprehend these and other notorious serial killers? With updated content, the forensic psychiatrists of Broadcast Thought, H. Eric Bender, M.D., Praveen R. Kambam, M.D., and Vasilis K. Pozios, M.D., team up with Mark E. Safarik, M.S., V.S.M., and FBI (retired) supervisory special agent, Behavioral Analysis Unit (Killer Instinct), to explore the dark world of Gotham City's serial killers. Are serial killers psychotic, psychopathic, or neither? Do Gotham City's serial killers have real-world counterparts? Are common traits shared among serial killers, and can "profiling" lead to their successful apprehension? Learn how real FBI agents profile and arrest serial murderers. With that knowledge, don the mantle of the Bat, profile the Dark Knight's deadliest villains, and plan their capture. Bring your questions and your curiosity, and discover once again that real life is, in fact, stranger than fiction!
Sounds pretty awesome :woot:

I'd love to see that.

Ha, oh boy.....

I'd love to be there, but sadly it's impossible. I hope it gets released on video or something.

I went to a similar one at Comic-Con last year in which psychiatrists and Batman artists/producers/writers analyzed Batman, Catwoman and their relationship. It was very interesting hearing Michael Uslan and other professionals talk about Batman's mental instability, and his ultimate desire to pursue "dangerous" women.

Also as I recall, they did one in 2010 focusing only on the Joker, I missed it but heard it was fantastic.

Anyone else feel Batman's getting the short hand of the stick here? Bane's this huge badass warrior and he has a whole army of assassins and Marvel's heroes are the ones who get to team up?

Bane: I have an Amry
Batman: I have....a Butler

:wow: That sounds drool-worthy

Those would've been fantastic. I was browsing through Midtown Comics recently (in the Batman section of course) and heard the guy behind the counter and a customer talk about Batman and Catwoman's relationship. Really interesting to hear other people share their thoughts. There should be a college degree in this type of analysis.

the one comparison to "The Cult" story is the power of persuasion used to affect the underclass into following the leader. Only instead of a religious motivation Bane will use populism. That and the use of the sewer to move around undetected until his army is strong enough to hold chunks of the city.

Thought I'd bring this to the threads attention, seeing as it's more related to speculation than the manip thread. Long story short, someone posted this art in there, I made an observation about how Bane/Batman are very yin/yang both in appearance and personality and Diemtay expanded on it with this post.

Thoughts?

Not really seeing the connection. Batman has shown to lie (for the greater good), and Bane isn't at all maskless just because his eyes aren't covered.
