If I may ask a few folks here, back when TDK first came out...it obviously ended with Batman on the run after having taken the fall for Dent's crimes; pretty much leaving things on a somewhat cliffhanger note.
So with that said, how did everyone here (who is a fan of TDK) feel about it when they first saw that? Did you guys feel like it ended the film on a downer note and that you wanted closure to the story at the end of the film as opposed to having to wait for the next one?
The reason why I'm asking is because I want to know if the reason why so many liked that type of ending for TDK is also why a good amount of folks are okay with the way BvS reportedly ends.
I'll start with BvS... I've kept my feelings about the reported synopsis to myself, mainly because this is the spoiler thread, not the skepticism thread, but also because I'm actually interested in seeing how it plays out.
I learned this lesson with Doctor Who, actually:
For season 8 (Peter Capaldi's first season as the Doctor), the scripts for the first five episodes leaked. I wasn't impressed with the scripts at all, but found I really enjoyed the episodes (in fact, the script I disliked the most turned out to be the episode I liked the best of the 5). Reason being is the execution: what I saw in my head as I was reading the scripts was not how it played out in the episodes; the execution was largely phenomenal.
I'm not enthused with the BvS synopsis posted here, to be honest, but the execution could change all of that for me.
As for TDK... I
loved that ending. I thought it was set up extremely well, and I felt Gordon's little monologue as Batman ran was brilliant. Admittedly, I think the use of it in TDKR was... erm... not great, but for TDK it was absolutely brilliant. It was a powerful, bittersweet ending: the only way the Joker could lose was for Batman to take the fall.
Back to BvS... you really have to think about the execution. The whole, final script for BvS could leak tomorrow, and we could all read it, and I, for one, could actually hate what I read, only to find that I absolutely loved how it was executed when I see it on the 24th.

And now I have a question for those who've seen the film...
How well do Affleck and Gadot play off each other? I want that dynamic (Wondy/Bats, that is) so bad in these films it's not even funny, so I need to know if their chemistry with each other is strong and if they play off each other well.
