RE: Martha

It's pretty obvious that Clark is trying to tell Batman to "save Martha Kent".

You even hear him get the "Ke-" out before Batman puts his foot on his throat.

It could have been better executed (eg "Kill me but please save Martha Ke-") but oh well.

Did superman fly Doomsday to space immediately after Doomsday jumped to Lexcorp skyscraper or they fought for a while after Doomsday going to lexcorp?

I wonder if there's more to the senate hearing originally, like it could have been. About the Africa scene, Zack said that it plays much differently in the ultimate cut, I wonder what he means by that.

IIRC, Doomsday threw him around for a bit before he flew him up the stratosphere.

Anyone else bothered by how quickly Superman solved the problem of Doomsday by flying him into space?

And then how quickly the Dept of Defense ruins it by nuking both? Why not just let them fight in space? See how that pans out first before using the nuke.

He didn't solve the problem though, he took him away from the City but he couldn't do anything with him. Doomsdsy was to powerful to hold for long and he thought (like the military) the nuke would kill him but it didn't. There's no way he could gave flown him to the sun, I don't think people realise how far the Sun actually is from the Earth.

You know humans and the government, always jumping the gun.

I didn't hear the "Ke-", but I'll be sure to listen for it next time I see the film.

I feel like this got the cut.

A shame because it was a good plotline with a great performance from Holly Hunter, who somehow was one of the standouts of the film in a relatively minor role.

I loved her in her scene in Luthor's place, but feel like the movie didn't adequately show the significance behind her decisions. She should have been the indicator of public mood towards Superman in a more apparent way.

So just how easily did he get Doomsday into space.. Curious for when the "why didnt he do that with Zod" crowd arrives...

Also any chance this is the last damn time they go digging into Dark Knight Returns for ideas/scenes.. So sick of it being regurgitated

As far as I remember after Doomsday broke supes monument in superman's head he jumped on Lexcorp skyscraper and they fought for a minute more and supes took him to space.

Which makes sense because unlike Zod Doomsday can't fly. Supes couldve just launched him into space. End of

That's what does in some comics. He aims Doomsday in the direction of void.

Or maybe that was Cyborg during death and returns of superman?

I forget.

so with regards to Justice League, are we now going to spend the first half of that movie bringing superman back to life instead of, you know, teaming up the heroes? the ending of the movie wouldn't have been half as bad if it didn't have a major impact on the future storylines. if they go evil superman route like injustice, i'm out.

Yep. It felt so unearned because Doomsday wasn't applied properly at all. He's just like Abomination. A Hulk like thing to be disposed of as quickly as possible. One and done. Never mind that the build up to DOS in the comics was heard breaking because as Doomsday decimated every JL member, loads of other heroes and even some villains, we knew Superman was going to die. Over a course of several months. We knew it, and we were waiting for it. That final match. The big sacrifice. You were emotionally invested. Here it takes all of 15 minutes, with a hero we barely even know. He's not even the protector of humanity yet.

Having him appear during a battle could work. Who knows how they'll do it. What's the issue with Evil Superman exactly?

Yeah, their first fight during the Death story line. Superman tries to take Doomsday into space, can barely hold him because he's thrashing about, and Doomsday stabs him in the side with the bony protrusion from his elbow.

I think a 15 minute final match is perfect timing. Any longer and people would complain that there is too much fighting and destruction like in MOS. Short, sweet and not drawn out.

Found Doomsday guys. Seriously, for all Snyder's reputation of making things look good, he couldn't even give us this? In a CGI character??

Ugh, and once again with the damn gray background, even bleaker and more dull than the final fight in MOS. And once again, all they did was punch each other and I didn't even know who was punching who. This movie was such a fail all around.

Sure, in the context of this story. That they chose to write. Combining two completely different comic book collections. But that was a disservice to both of those stories. Moreso DOS

I'd rather see the fully formed justice league taking on darkseid than a partial league taking on evil superman. Just give us the full league right up front!

Maybe Doomsday will come back in some form. Felt the fight was really satisfying.

a lot of the complaints sound like the red underwear discussions which were so ridiculous. the final battle was great.

To be fair, it's hard to put yourself in someone else's mind, a lot of complaints make me go "who the hell thinks about stuff like that while watching a film?", and I'm a cinephile, you're just wired a certain way, and that's why we always get into these huge endless critical fight circles, unless you find someone else whose opinion somehow falls in line with what you felt, it's just a hard thing to grasp.

Exactly. You wanna know what grind my gears? Superman's suit being different from MoS. Seriously, that's a complaint of mine lol. I know it's absolutely bonkers and such a small thing but I just think the old suit looked 10 times better.

Isn't it barely different? Like a couple of different lines on his belt area? :D We all have our obsessions :D
