I think the mercenary aspect should have been more heavily played throughout his return, he should never lose fights though.

Apparently he does need Shawn because they keep bringing him back. Probably because Hunter knows that he sucks as a face unless he's doing DX style comedy.

Shawn brings a real and sincere quality that Triple H just cannot manage in these types of dramatic feuds as a face.

Thats because he's a natural a**hole and everybody sees it. Even beyond that its hard to undo 15 years of being a total b*stard as a heel. Even he's had to admit it in his chraracter.
