Its not like The Rock brought a slew of fans with him when he came back. There really isn't a significant chunk of people watching that dont already watch when Rock comes to town. There won't be a very significant dip in viewers when Rock leaves, just as there wasnt a very significant increase when he returned.

The fact is, these fans who are watching are absolutely sick of John Cena, and unless it leads to a very drastic change in his character, beating Rock will do absolutely nothing for Cena or the company, except turn even more people off because it will only further add to that hatred people have of Cena.

Rock v. Cena has nothing to do with the long term of the company, and everything to do with giving the fans a match they want to see. A win will do nothing long term for either guy, and I feel will only hurt Cena either way, but further alienate fans if he wins.

The only way this match has any long term value is of they use the match to drastically change who Cena is as a character.

That's why I dont get into all this long term garbage. I dont give a flying crap about this match for what it can do for the company long term, I give every crap about this match for being a dream match, clash of generational "legends", and being an entertaining pairing.

Let the "long term" of the company get fondled when CM Punk defends his title against Jericho, solidifying him as a legitimate top guy. But leave your "long term" out of Rock v. Cena and just give me something that I want to see.

Long term matters all the time, each angle and match should be looked at as how he can be both entertaining and useful in building continued interest in the product, otherwise it's pointless.

Rock vs Cena isn't so much about the result, it's like Metallo says, it's all about what Cena does with this situation, it needs to be a platform to do something fresh with his character, I'm not saying exactly what that is as I don't know, but if it's just a match then it has no real purpose. Even Hogan vs Rock was used to springboard the Hogan nostalgia run and the subsequent jobs Hogan did, all quite useful for the product.

Report on WWE's Interest in Top TNA Stars - Beer Money, RVD & Others

Posted by Marc Middleton on 01/05/2012

- Recent online reports have suggested that WWE is interested in signing several talents from TNA once their contracts with the company expire. Courtesy of PWTorch, here is a breakdown of the rumored names and if WWE is interested:

* Rob Van Dam - WWE is interested in bringing him back.

* Matt Morgan - WWE was interested in Morgan last year but he chose to stick with TNA.

* Bully Ray - WWE has shown some interest in the former Tag Team Champion. No word yet if they're interested in bringing Ray back with Devon as Team 3D.

* The Pope - Officials were interested early last year when he was being pushed but not so much anymore.

* Samoa Joe - There is no interest from WWE.

* Ink Inc. - There may be some interest in bringing back Shannon Moore down the road but Jesse Neal is viewed as a developmental prospect at best.

* James Storm and Robert Roode - WWE had interest last year in bringing Beer Money in as a tag team but word is that they're not interested in bringing the former TNA Tag Team Champions in as singles wrestlers.

I'd love to see Bully Ray brought back in, he's experienced and in the best period of his career creatively.

It's a pretty sad indictment of the WWE mindset that they are more interested in a 41 year old botch job pothead than Roode and Storm.

- The latest on Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust is that they may do something together at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Good place to do this match as Cody deserves better for Mania and the Rumble was the PPV Goldust first won the IC title at 16 years ago.

Why does the WWE have interest in RVD? Seriously?

I'd like to see Beer Money in the WWE... provided Paul pushes the tag division like he wants to. Bully Ray is probably at the best point he's ever been in... I'm more interested in him now than I ever was when he was a "Dudley." I wonder though... Would he even go back to the WWE without Devon?

Bully Ray would make a good addition to the midcard scene. I don't think he goes back without Devon though.

The only way I see Devon going back is as a road agent, the Dudley's were beyond stale as a team.

Would Devon want to go back as a road agent?

Of course, I never thought the Road Dogg would ever return to the WWE.

I really just want Cena to go nuts and beat the living hell out of someone. This angle is not satisfying at all unless Cena goes off on The Rock and his haters.

My friend and I were talking about it, and ultimately, that's what we want to see. My friend thinks the best case scenario is Rock wins the match, but it causes Cena to finally "snap", and post match he beats the crap out of The Rock, finally going heel, setting up a future match where Cena will beat The Rock.

That's kind of what I'm hoping. Rock beats Cena and he goes to shake his hand for giving him "one hell of a match" and Cena goes absolutely ballistic and takes the Rock "out of action."

Puts Cena over big time as a heel and saves us from having a super huge Cena victory celebration at the end of Mania...

I had a similar idea , during the match Cena tries countless times to pin the Rock but is unable , eventually Cena just ''snaps'' and goes to the outside of the ring and grabs a chair and proceeds to beat the crap out of the Rocks limp body

That would be fine by me.

Cena's character is ridiculous now. He forgave Kane for beating him down? What the hell? This is a show that's about guys beating up one another: hate and dislike is just par for the course in wrestling storylines.

Thinking back now, I'm actually quite sad we never got to see Ken Shamrock and/or Owen Hart as the WWF Champion(s) (top champions). :csad:

Be a Star and all that jazz...

This would work in the Attitude Era. But I'm not sure how well it would in the PG Era.

It also plays on the angle of Cena being the "Company Guy" and "Saving" the Company from an "Outside Influence".

Personally I'd love it!

Nevermind... I remember now. Did a quick Google search and memory was instantly jogged.

His holyness John Cena took a beating for our sins :o

Kevin Nash vs. Ultimate Warrior in a pro wrestling match would be horrid. Kevin Nash vs. Ultimate Warrior in an actual fight...freakin' priceless. :woot:

I don't watch much TNA, but am I missing something here about Samoa Joe? Why is he being underused and why isn't WWE interested in him?

Well, I'd imagine WWE doesn't like his look, but I don't understand why TNA doesn't do anything with him. Joe would be better off returning to ROH. They need talent BAD.

No interest in The Pope! Man when is that guy going to catch a break? He should be main eventing right now in either company. He has some awesome promos, and in the ring he's pretty good as well. You can put him in any feud with anyone and he'd make it entertaining. Stupid wrestling companies. :csad:
