Oh yes I forgot. Some may get for the 4K player capability that the Sony and Nintendo consoles aren't bothering with. Is the S and X 4k player any different for films?

I don't think there's any difference? but I'm not sure.

Oh right, so anyone who isn't too bothered about top end gaming could just go for the S as their 4K player, which is very cheap now. I had no intention of ever getting the S but it was so cheap as I was browsing in the shop for games that I just walked out with it lol. Probably the first time I've ever bought a console like that without planning for months/years ahead. :woot:

hah. an impulse buy. :woot:

that sort of happened to me with the Switch. I wasn't planning on getting a console that day, but when I walked into the store ( for something else ) and I saw one last Switch left on the shelf, I grabbed that sucker fast. :o

oh, and there may not be a difference in the 4K player between the S and X. however, there is a difference in the overall 4K media playback.

from what I understand, the X will be able to play 4K video files with the Media Player app. The S is NOT capable of playing 4K video files, for some strange reason (guess it's not powerful enough?).

so, if you want a true, full 4K media player machine, then you'd go with the X over the S.

Oh yes, that's the technical term lol.

Oh right makes sense. I should make use of these 4K video file downloads like you do.

How MS built the Xbox One X

https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/2/...gn-sony-playstation-4-pro-console-generations

Fascinating article. The X really is a nice looking piece of hardware, as was the S. And I'm hoping the redesigned internal structure and premium parts will mean very few hardware issues. The Wifi chip better be stable and there better not be any kind of rattling fan noise with the new Vapor Cooling system.

So, hardware wise, I hope MS really hits this out of the park. Because they need to turn their focus now on delivering exclusive AAA game experiences on the Xbox. As the article pointed out, that falls into Spencer's hands and I hope he can deliver starting next year and beyond.

looks like we finally have Pro footage of Shadow of War.

[YT]pTZ7wnO7U_Y[/YT]

hopefully this means DF can put together a comparison vid against existing X footage.

I really want to see if there's a noticeable difference between the X and Pro versions.

I reckon some will take advantage of the super-cheap S too when the X comes out.

^ oh sure. hopefully both consoles will boost Xbox sales.

in that IGN comparison vid, I couldn't really tell much of a difference between the S and Pro versions.

Just placed my preorder! Had to cancel the one from the other store as it wasn't going through.

nice, Iceman!! :)

but that means you didn't get that discount??

Alpha Ring Insiders can now start downloading 4K assets to prep for the X.

https://www.trueachievements.com/n3...ne-x-4k-content-updates-on-xbox-one-heres-how

hopefully this means we will start getting 4K file sizes to compare against the base games. it does say in the instructions that 4K content may be MORE THAN TWICE the size of the base games!!

hopefully that's not the norm, though, cuz as I've said before, this could possibly be the dealbreaker for me if those file sizes are too big.

Yeah unfortunately, no discount.

At least I got the Project Scorpio edition!

Less than a month to go!

^^ Yes!! although it will probably be longer for me. ;)

Longer for your permanent one yes, but you might get your first returnable X by then lol. Btw did you decide to keep that 4K player?

hey man, don't jinx me!! :csad: :o

and I'm not sure about my 4K player. I'm in the final week of the return period, but I haven't been totally satisfied with it either.

It, too, has had iffy internet issues. The settings/menu layout isn't the most user friendly for a casual like me with tons of options to go through. The apps/features selection is rather barebones and paltry, especially when compared to Xbox or even my prior standalone 4K player.

And, quite frankly, I'm kind of underwhelmed by the audio output quality, even though "hi-def" audio is supposed to be one of its features.
