Xbox The Xbox One - - Part 14

Phil Spencer: "It would be nice to buy a Japanese studio"

And this is interesting: "Phil Spencer admits that the spending spree is by no means over"
This news means less to me now as I traded in my Xbox today, haha.

MS may be able to buy up a smaller JDev studio. But I have a hard time seeing any of the bigger, more established JDev studios willing to be bought out by MS and thus eliminate the majority of their fanbase ( PS4 and Switch owners ). It's a bit of a Catch-22, but the reality is that Xbox sells almost nonexistantly ( if that's a word ) in Japan, and multiplat JDev games probably sell less on Xbox compared to the other platforms.

And the overall install base of the X1 is smaller, with the PS4 outselling it more than 2-to-1 now. And with the way Switch is selling, it will most likely catch up and surpass X1 sales in short order. And the combined install base of both PS4 and Switch players is much larger compared to the smaller base of X1 players. So, I have a hard time seeing a JDev willing to give up that much larger install base to produce games exclusively for the smaller base.

The market just isn't really there for those kind of games on Xbox. I mean, just look at the live crowd reaction when Tales of Arise was revealed at Xbox E3 show. it was like 1 or 2 people clapping.....lol. I'm interested in that stuff, and I know there are other Xbox owners who are. But we clearly aren't in the majority.........lol.

Which is why I don't blame MS for not trying the hardest to court the JDev market ( though they have been making more effort recently ) or JDevs for skipping out on Xbox entirely.

Just look at Blazblue Cross Tag, for example. Previous Blazblue games did appear on 360 and X1. And there's no reason, from a hardware/tech view, why Cross Tag couldn't come to the X1, when it came on the Switch. And PC via Steam ( I think ). And of course PS4. basically everywhere except Xbox.

You should also look into Games Pass.

Welcome to the console with the better UI and online, more powerful, and better controller. Still lacks in First Party games, but hey, there's plenty of games to play.

to be honest I really cannot stand the Xbox dashboard the PS4 is far more easier to navigate IMHO

Once you have everything figured out, it’s way faster. Pulling up different tabs takes a 1-2 actions, where’s on PS4, it can take up to 8-9 for the same thing, and there’s way more loading. I could go from playing a game to watching YT in 1-2 actions with no load. On PS4, I would have to exit the game, boot up the video app, load, scroll till I find YT, hit it, wait for it to load. With X1, if you pin things to your home, all the apps are there the second you click the home button. It’s wayyyyy easier.

I've just moved onto broadband with up to 146mbps so downloading games should be pretty quick. A shame I don't live close enough to get the tier above which is average 300mbps!

Killer Instinct Definitive Edition has been added to Gamepass. Yay yay!!

I rarely buy the same game on both systems but I had to get Red Dead 2 for 39 new last month my buddy has a One X and he has said game and it looks GORGEOUS on his 55" 4K set.

Gears of War 4 on Games with Gold right now. Also Forza 6 is due to come on there on the 16th.

downloaded Batman Arkham knight from the game pass didn't play it when it came out not sure why since I loved the earlier games

figured the Gears console would have been unveiled at E3.

wonder if we will get a custom Halo themed Scarlett next year.

Could well do with Halo being a launch game. I'd consider getting it if so.

He's definitely still the right man for the job. I'm really looking forward to next gen too. I've been so much busier this gen than last. I'm going to make sure I have much more free time by then.
I like Phil and think he's a cool guy. Whether or not he's still the right man for the job will largely depend on how he (and MS ) handles Scarlett next year.

based on those articles, Phil is keenly aware of the X1's tepid (nay disastrous) unveiling. MS really needs to hit it out of the park next year. Reestablish Xbox as a serious power player in the console/gaming market.

have they ever done custom themed consoles at a console launch?
I think they usually come a bit later as the original launch consoles are in high demand anyway. Just hopefully not too much later or the game will be getting old. With the Gears X1X they lost potential sales with the timing with the console itself now getting old and the next console around the corner.

It takes at least a decade to recover from Don Mattrick's outright idiocy!

yeah, they also might not want too many different SKUs at console launch. Hope there's no Kinect/forced accessory nonsense this time around with Scarlett.

well, hopefully it won't take until 2023 for MS to fully recover. I know it will take time for these newly acquired game studios to bear fruit, but Scarlett can't afford to have a 2 year "drought" of meaningful AAA games.

Definitely by 2021, the Scarlett needs to show strength with high quality exclusives and other features. MS needs to start strong with Scarlett and sustain that momentum early on.

I like how the Forza games come with a disclaimer at the start.

"Some of the driving depicted in this game is potentially dangerous and should not be attempted in real life."

Yeah, ya think??
